I stayed at The Landmark Inn in Marquette for two nights in a king room. The hotel itself has a historical look and is located close to the center of downtown, which is small but charming. The check in process was easy and parking while minimal was adequate during my stay. They offer complimentary coffee and water when you walk in which was a nice touch. The elevator is very old and extremely slow and I found myself thinking stairs might be faster. As for the room I had heard ahead of time not to stay on the sixth floor due to reported haunting activity so I was on the fifth. Each room is supposed to have a theme but mine felt rather dull and uninspired. Unfortunately the room was dusty and I found hair in the sink from a prior guest which was off putting. The bed was comfortable and the temperature was cold when I arrived at 62 degrees which I actually liked. The view was nice but the room was very loud in the evenings. I suspect I was right below the sixth floor bar because I could hear chairs dragging and plenty of noise until about eleven or twelve at night. On the positive side the staff was kind and nobody was rude. I also tried their restaurant pub twice and it was excellent. The fish and chips cheese curds and chicken strips were all delicious and I highly recommend eating there even if you are not staying at the hotel. Overall while I appreciated the history the location and the food I would not stay here again. My three star review is more about the cleanliness issues and the constant noise from above. For two nights in a king room the total was eight hundred twenty five dollars and for that price I expected a cleaner room better upkeep and more amenities. read more

Stay at Landmark regularly due to great location. Unfortunately, guest room bathrooms cleanliness has been an issue for the last few years. Showers and bathtubs have developed obvious mildew over time and it's getting worse not better. Management needs to address issue with a grout brush and some bleach. read more

I came here for breakfast at Parlour Cafe. I loved the vegan breakfast sandwich. It was tasty and much bigger than I thought it would be. Ambiance is nice and there are large widows for you to look out of. There are free postcards at the check in desk. read more

Ridiculously expensive for what is essentially a Holiday Inn room. You're paying for the fancy lobby, not much else. Save your money and book elsewhere. Prices of the water/soda in the lobby are literally insane. In addition, pet policy is a joke. No pets on furniture, including bed. Can't leave pets alone. Advertising themselves as "Pet friendly"... especially with a pic THEY uploaded of a dog on the bed, violating their own policy... not cool. read more

Stayed here for two nights with a couple of friends. It's a beautiful hotel. Nicely decorated. It's supposedly haunted, which is why one of my friends wanted to stay here. However, the hotel doesn't seem to engage much in the haunted story. Not much on the website about it. However, when I googled the hotel, there is a ghost story attached to it. Nothing too crazy or exciting. It would have been a little more fun if the hotel hyped up the haunting. Regardless, it was still a lovely stay. The location is perfect in the downtown area. Close to everything. The hallways definitely looked haunted. The room was spacious and beautiful. I was pleasantly surprised at how modern it was, yet still had a classical feel. Everything was clean and staff were friendly. Good food options available at the hotel. They have a gym on the 6th floor. Parking can be tricky if you're coming back later at night; by then it seems all the parking is taken. Overall, absolutely beautiful hotel and I would happily stay here again! read more

Came in for a wedding and stayed here to be close to the water. The building is gorgeous and the staff is so friendly and knowledgeable when we had some questions about town. The bartender at their bar was very good at his job and also friendly and kept us company for our after wedding drinks. The location is also awesome, we didn't have much time and still were able to walk down by the water, find a restaurant and see some shops. Well, the service was so slow in the pub for brunch, but the food was delicious. The bartender was taking care of 4 people at the bar while the waitress was running around like a chicken w her head cut off to serve 6 tables w about 24 people. So what is the point? Food is great, but you are not allowing people to enjoy good service. The barkeep came out great once from behind her bar to clear a table. We waited for water for 15 minutes, feel like she (the bartender) could at least refill water glasses? I think our waitress was doing the best she could. Hard to watch though. read more

Overall the Landmark Inn was wonderful. The staff was amazing! The location is perfect for business at NMU. My only recommendation/issue is if there is a band or event on the 6th floor don't have a room on the 5th floor. Sooo loud. I called to find out what time the band would stop and was sad to find it wasn't until around 11 when I had to be up at 6. Beside that everything was perfect and plan to return. read more

The front door to the hotel would not close all the way and the entrance was pretty shabby. No ice machine, had to have the front desk retrieve a bag of ice from the kitchen for us every day. One bar of soap, had to ask for a second bar for the shower. There is no daily cleaning. While the location of this very old establishment is wonderful, I would not recommend it. read more

I've stayed here one other time minus covid-19. I was thoroughly disappointed. Although service indrusties have been open and able to provide services, this hotel decided to provide no service due to covid. I feel this business chose to use covid as an excuse to NOT provide services. It would be different if it were not allowed or the law for the safety of others but they chose to use it to their advantage. No safety provided. No markings or limits to elevators. No information on expectations. No notices of services not provided except restaurant was closed but still providing limited breakfast. I care about the environment and like to be private so I always hang my towel back up on a rack for a hotel that asks that you reuse if willing. So... I did that as I do but I did not recycle wash cloth or hand towel for various reasons. I went skiing all day, expected to come home and have my bed made and new toiletries. NOPE. Long day skiing. When calling the desk, they stated.... Covid we are not providing that service but if you need towels or whatnot come down and we will provide that. I did that. The point is... it would have been nice to know. You pay the same price covid or not apparently service or not as well. No where does it state this. No where does it state the different services that are provided or not. This was not communicated, in fact, they were very rude when attempting got make a reservation. The thing is, I have family nearby and know the area well so I went to Expedia and rented the room since they were the most unaccomodating but now... I will explore the chain hotels after this experience and will not reccomend this hotel any longer, Unfortunate. At the very least you would think they would update their website to explain and disclose services provided and expectations. They sure pulled back on cleaning your room but certainly they must clean it when you leave so why not in between? they had no expectations but certainly provided zero service. Very disappointing. I will now go to chains that are organized and able to provide necessary services paid for rather than support local that are unable to adapt for safety rather than staffing perhaps? Very unfortunate. I hope they will make changes and continue to set themselves outside of the chains. read more

Staff is pleasant for the most part. (Only reason this place gets 2 stars) Extremely limited parking . Dirty room furniture, mold build up in the AC. So basically mold spores are being blown out every time the AC is on. Also, AC is very noisy. read more

Northland Pub's outdoor patio, the Southwest Cobb & Mojito were delightful after Art On The Rocks today. That big loud building fan next to patio is distracting and makes it hard to hear when it kicks on, but I doubt there's much that can be done there. The patio is adorable other than that, sun dappled seating with plants & trees. read more

Stayed here 2 nights from Thursday to Saturday. Great location at the top of the hill, make sure to get a room up top with a lake view if available. Nice calm room, chill bar on the main floor and on the top floor. they had a restaurant for dinner and breakfast but I did not partake. walking distance to both parts of town and all employees I spoke with were very nice. read more

Cute hotel with nice staff, but when I went to dry my hands in the bathroom, there was hair on my towel...from a previous customer...also all the extra amenities in the hotel were shutdown due to Covid like valet. Confused why the hotel is open but the extras aren't. Prob just understaffed? Anyways, I liked the room (minus the towel), and it was better than staying at a chain hotel. Nice rooms, a great location, a fantastic yet small bar, and absolutely terrible service. After the way I was treated, I have hesitations coming back. And not providing any free coffee except for a keurig is really cheap for what this place is worth. But it is a very cool, historic location though that adds some fun flavor to a UP trip. The lady at the front check-in desk, a heavy set woman with brown curly hair, was extremely rude. We arrived at around 10:00 at night and she gave us a very snide attitude. It was very clear that she hates guests and considers them all to be idiots from the way she talked back to us. Her attitude was nasty - maybe she hates her job? Regardless, that was the first impression I got of the hotel and it left a mark. The rooms are nice. Each room is unique and has a different name. We didn't actually know this until someone at the hotel we subsequently stayed at told us this fact - it would have been great if we had been told that at check-in! So I have no idea what the name of the room I stayed in was (room 304). It was a nice room though. The location is fantastic. You can walk all over Marquette. Apparently, the hotel also offers bikes that you can take to get around town (this is also a fact that I didn't know until someone told me when I was in a subsequent hotel). There are nice restaurants within a stone's throw away. I highly, highly recommend eating at Steinhouse - it's incredible. All in all, I am not sure if I would come back. The location was great and the room was nice, but I don't feel comfortable supporting a hotel that doesn't respect its guests. read more

Nothing like it used to be. Rooms are comfortable but no amenities (not even a small refrigerator). Utilitarian shower only (no bath). Food is very poor yet charging ridiculously astronomical prices - $20-24 for basic burgers and sandwiches without flavor, $14 granola, $14 cheese curds, 2 eggs, bacon and toast will set you back $14, etc. No breakfast (continental or otherwise) for hotel guests. Just a canteen of mediocre coffee downstairs. Pub can't get it right - bartender serves wrong drinks (i.e., order a Hopslam ale and served Two-Hearted. Father-in-law only found out by happenstance. Once pointed out, nothing was done about it)., out of stock on many items. read more

We were planning our trip to the UP and we did our research. We had heard all about he food scene in Marquette and couldn't resist an opportunity to stay in this awesome city. If you are staying in the area and need a great place to land, the Landmark Inn will not disappoint. We were excited about the history of the Inn. Walking through the doors, one can image being transported back in time. It is a fantastic place to stay due to it's location in relation to all the food spots and bars. We were able to hop around the city and didn't need to worry about driving or getting a ride. We stayed here the end of July, we should have been in St. John US Virgin Islands, but we needed to change our plans due to Covid. That being said, certain amenities were inaccessible due to social distancing. The hotel has a few bars which were not open and we hope to come back and experience the full grander of this historical inn. read more

WOW. This whitefish green curry was on special. It was so fantastic. The piece of whitefish was huge and they did not skimp on the flavor. Fresh veggies and cooked perfectly. The Caesar salad was done really well and the salmon was cooked perfectly. Flakey and moist. BUT THE BLOODY MARYS HERE ARE AMAZING. The mix or whatever they use is fantastic with a good spice to it. This is a beautiful hotel. We stayed one night this past week on a fall color road trip. Staff was great, accommodations were fantastic, layout of room was awesome. The only negative was that there was noticeable dust layered on all of the furniture. It was almost like the room had not been booked in awhile. As a dust triggered asthma sufferer, this was not good for me. I did send a message to the hotel before posting this but never received a response. That's disappointing. read more

I lucked out when the Landmark Inn was reserved for my stay while visiting Northern Michigan University. Right from the airport, I was greeted by the helpful and affable staff, like Mike who picked me up in a clearly marked black SUV. It was a smooth ride to the hotel in picturesque downtown Marquette. Excellent location, beautiful and comfortable rooms, great bar with a view on top floor and pub (with a super weekend brunch) off the lobby. Enjoyed a delicious dinner in a private dining room one evening with colleagues and loved all the exceptional customer service. Huge thanks to Dustin and Jason at the front desk for going above and beyond. The only thing I questioned was the choice of lemon scent for shampoo and conditioner. Super quick room service. Delighted to recommend and certainly will stay there again! I had an outstanding and enjoyable time. read more

TERRIBLE beds: The only comparison I can make is to a bad futon. I awoke at 3 am with a severe backache that even the couch couldn't help, so I canceled our second night and booked another hotel. This hotel had a dingy and dark entrance area with a matching surly front desk clerk. They claim the rooms have lake views, but I believe you need to have a really vivid imagination for that to be true. There is zero breakfast options and no room service. Intermittent WiFi connection at best. Long hairs in the shower (when was the last time this was cleaned??). The suite we were in only had a single floor lamp hidden in the corner, so we had to move it around to read next to the couch (leaving the other half of the room in the dark). The Landmark Hotel is a grossly overpriced unclean hostel without even a decent bed. Avoid at all costs! read more

What a fantastic hotel! I was spending a night in Marquette and was looking for something downtown and not your regular "chain" hotel. The hotel is this historic building and has these adorable rooms. My room was at the end of hall and got a great view of the lake and had a fake fireplace. It sounds silly but I was really excited about it since the desk staff hyped it up. The room was cozy, and you felt like you were in an old room, but was in great shape and had all the amenities that you need (fridge, tv, closet space). The hotel has THREE bars. Two on the first floor and a cocktail lounge on the 6th floor. The first floor bars are both restaurants, one being a fancier Italian restaurant and the other bar is more of an American style restaurant. I felt bad leaving the hotel to explore Marquette, each of those bars sounded so great and would have been easier to go to than walking in the snowy, cold weather. Would stay here again in a hearbeat whenever I'm in Marquette. read more

Beautiful building. Great location. Great bar and restaurant I have stayed here numerous times over the last 18 years. I believe the mattresses have never been upgraded and their towels are very budget thin. For $350 plus a night this place is a far cry from other historic hotels like The St. Paul Hotel. The furniture is stained and dirty and the carpet in the hallways needs updating. The place is charming, the staff is attentive but they need to update the beds and for the $$ have real half and half. The Hampton on the lake a few blocks away is so much nicer and less $$. read more

I called the front desk and they said they did not have any other rooms available yet still charged me the 250.00 per night rate. I told them they need to change the description from water view to roof tops view. Oh, you can see the water but it will hurt your neck. Will not stay here again. Small historic hotel. The lobby is charming and the dining room has been painted well. The rooms have been updated with new bathrooms. The king size bed was comfortable, two armchairs in our room were a bit worn. We were grateful for a/c that was well functioning during the hottest week of the year thus far. They rent bikes to use on bike paths nearby. Front desk staff were friendly and well dressed. The location was perfect, in town and walking distance to everything Marquette has to offer. I am glad we stayed here, the other choices had different amenities like kitchenettes and a pool for lower cost but the quaint appeal of a nice historic place on a hill overlooking the bay made for a relaxing vacation stay. read more

Accommodation was small and poorly decorated. It seemed like a collection of leftovers. Paid for lake view and got a room that you could only see the lake by standing behind a chair in a corner. We were three nights nights and we complained they adjusted our bill by $30 total ($10 a night). An email after checkout was ignored. Decided to top off our 10 year anniversary trip through the UP after 3 nights camping, with 2 nights here! What a great choice! Our room is fantastic, and because we let them know when we booked it that we were celebrating our anniversary, we arrived to a nice box of goodies!! Per the inn'sadvertisement, I was expecting a clean, glowing, spacious room where  Old-world European splendor and charm meet modern convenience and up to date technology. Instead, we got a grubby, shabby room that doesn't appear to have been cleaned, much less meticulously updated in years. The light and heater in the bathroom do not work. The bathroom sinks do not close up. The shower head is falling out of the wall and the bottom of the glass door is moldy. The plywood back of the "antique armoir" is falling off. The wallpaper is peeling. How old is that leather couch ? It smells like sweat.  How old are that phone and clock radio? Where are the usb ports? I suppose it would be handy to charge my iPod.... read more

We chose landmark as my partner had stayed years back, unfortunately this time around it was less than enjoyable. The staff though nice was somewhat snooty, their pet fee is $50 and not sure what it covers but the dogs can't even be on any of the furniture. They also ask the dogs not bark which is understandable, so we made sure to keep them extra quiet, but their staff can be loud at 7AM clanging carts, glassware and banging in the hallway on a Sunday morning without any repercussion? What was supposed to be a relaxing break in between the camping adventure turned out to be a bad night of sleep with early not welcomed wake up call. Barely any amenities in the room as well. Won't be staying here again unfortunately. If you have pets, you may want to find a more "pet friendly" hotel. It's too bad the experience has changed so much over the years. read more

I came to Marquette, where my mother grew up, for the UP200 dogsled race. The weekend was cold and windy, and so it was important to me to have somewhere cozy where I could warm up after a long day outside. The Landmark definitely fit the bill. There's plenty of parking in the back, which is free. The building itself is historic, and has an elegant vibe - refreshing after many nights in cookie-cutter Holiday Inn type places. Everyone behind the front desk was friendly and accommodating. It's also very inexpensive for a hotel of its quality; I think it was $129 for a lovely room with a queen bed, a humorous fake fireplace, a big bathroom, and a view of Lake Superior. What more could we want? Water pressure was pretty weak, so the showers weren't as satisfying as I'd hoped, and it took forever to fill the bathtub! Also a little bit of a buzzing sound coming from the heating vent in the bathroom - probably just due to it being an old building. Didn't bother us. Hotel was quiet, we slept soundly through the night. Oh and they have two bottles of wine, with glasses and an opener, in the room - if you open them they charge $15 to your account. I thought that was really nice - not too expensive, and very convenient. We didn't eat at the restaurants, but we did have a drink upstairs in the lounge, which had a beautiful view, comfy chairs, and a bartender who knows how to make a cosmopolitan. We had a great stay here, if I was ever back in Marquette this would definitely be my hotel of choice. read more

The Landmark is the place to stay while in Marquette. It's location can't be beat with all the restaurants and bars within walking distance. The staff is alway very accommodating and friendly. The lake view from some of the rooms are breathtaking and be sure to visit the bar at the top of the hotel for a beverage. A MUST! Every time my husband and I visit Marquette we stay at the Landmark. Historic hotel in downtown Marquette. It has a unique history that made my stay more interesting. Make sure to read it in your room or on their web site's description (Go to About Us - History) page! The room we stayed was kind of small, but had a nice decor. The price is a little higher than most of other hotels in Marquette - that's the main reason I gave them 4 stars instead of 5. But I still think it's worth the money if you like to stay in a hotel that reflects the area's history, instead of one of the chain hotels. I guess it depends on the purpose of your trip. There are good bar (first floor) and lounge (top of the building) in the building. Although I haven't eaten there, they also have a restaurant here. read more

I spend about 140 nights a year on the road in hotels. 4 of which are spent in the Landmark. This is easily the best hotel I stay in. Incredibly nice staff, beautiful accommodations, great location downtown, and 3 bars within the hotel. Very historic and classical. A neat 1920's-1930's feel and comfortable rooms. Try the John Voelkner in the bar. Named after the author of nearby legendary novel 'Anatomy of a Murder'. It's a watered down old fashioned but it tastes good. Excellent hotel. We stopped here after days on the road returning from the west coast. We planned to stay for a night, but were so taken with it we extended our stay. Our room was on the fifth floor. The windows could open. The bathroom was generous and spotless, the bed comfortable, there was a 32" flatscreen, free wifi, a top floor restaurant with a harbour view, a ground floor pub. Parking was free and close-by, though outdoors. Room service was prompt and the price was reasonable. The hotel supplied a bottle each of reasonable-looking red and white wine and a corkscrew, with a note that they were $15.00 each if you open them. I thought this was a nice touch. The staff were helpful and courteous. Marquette was fun if you are an architecture buff. There is a nice mix of deco, early 20th century, and above all, a gargantuan and beautiful ore dock at the waterfront. read more
