This review is based on our experience as a family over the August long weekend. There are two major issues with this campground: First, the state on the campsites themselves; and second, the state of (and lack of) washrooms.
The Campsites:
Most campsites on the grounds are loose sandy dirt. This caused everything in our site to get covered with a fine dust. And when you blew your nose, you saw just what was settling everywhere. Granted, this was in a time of drought, but that is by nature the Okanagan. What's more. Several sites, including ours, were low lying and would quickly have small torrents form through them when rain fell on the mountain.
Wasps were rampant, and with children around, this was unsettling. They "sprayed" for them while we were there and while we were preparing food. Unfortunately, with no idea where the nest was, there was nothing to do. The advice we were given was to wash all our dishes at the wash house that was 200 meters (or thereabouts) away.
Last, with regard to the state of the site, it smelled terribly strong of urine, and this speaks to the nature of the wash facilities and how people clearly want to avoid them at all cost! Which brings us to the next point...
The Bathrooms:
When this campsite is full, there has to be between 200-300 people. There is one wash house for all those people. Two showers per gender. Two toilet stalls for the men, and one urinal. Three toilet stalls for the women.
Here's the real kicker, though... None of the men's stalls had locks (I was walked in on once). One woman's stall had no lock, but a bungee cord to close the door. Though each washroom had a wheelchair accessible stall, it came at the cost of the other stall sizes! Several other stalls were so small that a regular human would find it uncomfortable (calves to the bowl and knees to the door kind of tight). Not to mention, the wash house itself is NOT wheelchair accessible, it's up a hill with loose sandy paths leading to it.
One of the men's showers was only hot water, and the bathrooms were very gross. Overflowing toilets in the women's bathrooms and very dirty floors in the men's made for very unsanitary conditions. No hand soap, paper towel was almost always out, and the showers looked black in the corners with dirt.
It was incredibly obvious that this camp in understaffed, and it lacks professional care for it's bathroom facilities, especially. Furthermore, the camp ground could use at least twice the current number of bathrooms (WITH LOCKS).
We strongly discourage people from visiting this site until these issues are addressed. read more
