    Metamorphosis
    Dane B.

Butterflies are whispers of the heart, I can say. Nothing I find is more fascinating and complex than the metamorphosis of a butterfly--how one egg is transformed into a beautiful winged creature. I have visited a handful of butterfly centers outside of the US and it never fails to amaze me as a nature lover. I can still remember that back when I was in high school, my essay on the famous butterfly sanctuary in my city was a finalist for a national competition. The Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center, nestled in Callaway Gardens, enchanted me with the flutters of thousands of colorful butterflies, housed in their tropical greenhouses. They have a Butterfly Conservatory, wherein you step into a simulated tropical ecosystem to witness a magical show of nature--the grace and fragility of various butterfly species. Another truly amazing and educational one is the Transformation Center, where you can witness the different stages of a butterfly's metamorphosis--from a chrysalis/pupa to an adult butterfly. My best friend's family, especially the two kids, and I really enjoyed learning and seeing all this beauty of nature unfold before our eyes. With much appreciation for nature destinations like this, the Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center is not just a go-to for nature enthusiasts but also provides an extraordinary insight into the dire need for conservation for the next generation.

The displays in the center were realistic looking and informative. The staff was friendly. But the highlight, of course, was the butterfly center itself. Several butterfly varieties were flying around and enjoying their environment of green plants and colorful flowers. There were a couple of turtles in the water as well. The butterfly exhibits outside are great for pictures. Had a blast!

Fantasy in Lights at Calloway was a beautiful step back in time. We went December 4th with out…read morechurch group and had a great time together. Although raining, we were under cover most of our visit. We started off in Calloway's Christmas Village, which was a walk through collection of shops, offering Christmas decor, gifts, face painting, story time with Mrs Claus and hot cocoa and Donuts. Our group was scheduled for the light tour at 7pm and when we checked in, Calloway was able to take our group at 6pm. The light tour was a 7-mile, 10-million-light drive-through show. We went through the light show in the open cars driven by Calloway staff, but apparently visitors are welcome to drive their own vehicles through. It was a lot of fun - and my favorite lights were those of the beautiful swan from the twelve days of Christmas, and the tree next to the lake at the end of our drive. Simply beautiful! Anyone would like this who enjoys seeing Christmas lights, (who can also walk some distance) and who can be flexible when needed.

For the most this is the favorite family traditions for Christmas and New Year times seeing lights and enjoying. If you haven't given it a chance, you must go see the lights. We did the drive through because it was cold when we were there, but the trolley is a great experience also. Will try it next time for sure. Overall it was a good time and I highly recommend coming with family and friends. You drive about an hour slowly around the grounds and see so many lights that play with music. Afterwards, you park and can get out and explore a large area with festival food trucks, more lights in a walking path, glow mini golf, a giant projector playing rudolf the red nose reindeer, and a giant tent with areas to take cute photos, face painting, Christmas Tree with lights and shop for gifts. The smoke bubbles were so cool in foggy hallow. Great for kids. Would definitely come back next year. Callaway Gardens Fantasy In Lights has been ranked third on Forbes list of 7 Spectacular Christmas Light Displays That Offer Holiday Magic 2024. Recognized for its breathtaking displays, millions of twinkling lights, and festive charm, Fantasy In Lights continues to spread holiday joy and create unforgettable memories for all ages. Don't miss your chance to experience one of the nation's top Christmas light shows this season.

The restaurant is very cute and truly has an "at home" feel. I was really looking forward to having the short rib. Unfortunately when we were seated our waitress told us they didn't have it that day. While ordering drinks my husband was ordering beer and he was told they didn't sell what he was asking for. Even though it was listed on the menu. He ended up ordering whatever the waitress suggested and we ordered the shrimp cocktail while we looked over the menu. The shrimp cocktail was very good. For dinner I ordered the filet with lobster and my husband the Pork shank. My filet came out overcooked but was promptly fixed. The lobster was amazing ! My husband wasn't a big fan of the pork. We did order a cheesecake for dessert that was also really good. Overall our experience was pleasant but food wise not what I'd expected from the other reviews. However the service was great. The owner is so nice and spent time socializing at each table. He even came to make sure my second set of fillets were good to go. Our waitress is also very nice. I can see us trying this place out again. Hopefully on a night they have short rib.
