I pass Cebu on my way home from work and finally decided to try it, so I called in an order for takeout. Walking into the place, my hopes were high, as the dining area is littered with Filipino trinkets and there is a "grass hut" (a canopy covered with fronds to make it look like a grass hut) all of which look family produced and not as if a designer did the work. On the chalkboard was an announcement celebrating 11 years of service, so I figured it has been around a while, it can't be that bad. Well, it isn't that bad, it just isn't good. I ordered the Lumpia Shanghai, Empanada, Bihon, and Adobo. The lumpia was the only tasty dish of the group, but it is extremely hard to mess up garlic, ground pork, and carrots wrapped in a wrapper and deep fried. I didn't touch the sauce for the lumpia as it was just a bottled sweet and sour-like sauce. The Empanadas were passable, but pretty bland. The pancit bihon too was bland and served with oranges to squeeze over them, not lemon, I found it weird and the sweetness of the orange did not provide the same contrast as the lemon does. The adobo was OK, it used breast tenders, I am used to dark meat in the adobo, so again, the flavor just wasn't there. Overall I have to say the entire meal was bland. I am used to eating, and cooking, recipes from my ex-father-in-law from Pangasinan and his dishes always were spiced much better -- maybe there is a fear of flavor in Cebu. The service at Cebu was acceptable, I ordered take out so I didn't get ot see the full process and when I went in there was only one person sitting at a table and he was placed right next to the family table where the kids were doing there homework. read more

This place is very good, I'm glad we went there and didn't rely on the other reviews, because I wasn't expecting much after reading them. We went for dinner,. maybe that's why. The portion size were fine, not small at all. We ordered the lumpia apetizer and the empenadas, both excellent. The portion size for the lumpia was fine for 2 people, maybe 8 or 10 pieces and the size of them is the average size lumpia is normally. My husband ate a noodle dish, I had a sweet and sour prawns that was really fresh and tasty. I loved it. My husband loved his too, and this is coming from a man that was married to a fillipino woman before me,(kind of a weird place to state that) and he ate at her relatives homes where they cooked fresh filipino food. So I think that's pretty high praise! Something else I liked about it was they had little filipino touches, like a raw sugar in packets that is popular in their culture. Cebu is one of those restaurants that can leave a savorous taste in the mouth for days. I personally enjoy the mechado because it's juicy and flavorful. Every single one of their dishes exceed my expectations (yes I have tried all their dishes) : they all have unique but positively flavorful tastes. The food is not the only part of the restaurant that is 5-star; the service deserves the 5-star rating as well. It is apparent that the servers wish the best for the customers. I enjoy the waiters' tasteful humors. I always look forward to their cordial presence when I visit the restaurant. We ordered the pancit bihon, chicken adobo, and lumpia "boodle style," which means it's served on a communal banana leaf. It arrived looking and smelling like heaven on a plate, and the taste ... This rivals my mother's home cooking for Filipino food, and that's the highest compliment I can give it. We went for lunch on a Saturday and there were only two or three other tables in service while we were there, so it was pretty quiet, but I can imagine it getting nice and noisy when properly filled out with families. I'm looking forward to finding out when I've got family in town - I checked with our server, and he told us that while reservations weren't strictly necessary, if we wanted to make sure our party got a lechon all to ourselves, we might want to call a couple days ahead of time. Went to this restaurant for the first time due to good friends throwing a going away party there. SERIOUSLY DELICIOUS!!!! We had the most delicately fried little lumpia that were melt-in-in-your-mouth, vegetarian coconut curry that I unashamedly took home all of the leftovers for, chicken adobo, and some sort of beef with peppers, as well as pancit. Read another reviewer say that his co-worker brought pancit that had thick noodles, and I read the menu while i was there: both noodle types are an option. Service was also very very friendly, and I can't wait to go back. I don't mind waiting for food that is carefully prepared and so tasty. I highly recommend and will be back soon. read more

We originally were going to eat at Curry Corner, which was supposed to be open until 9. (They aren't!) So desperately we tried Cebu, and we are so happy we did. Despite being the last customers of the day, the people were very nice and the food was AMAZING! The lumpia and rice was fantastic (and a great kids meal), I had the Jackfruit, and my husband had the fish. The food is amazing!!! I took our foreign exchange student and he said it was just like home! Everything that was delivered to us was hot and fresh and flavorful - we could smell the onions and peppers cooking only after we'd placed our orders, so there is no doubt that it was made only right then and there, rather than something that had been sitting around for awhile. It was a very pleasant wait - the atmosphere is nice and the employees (or owners, not sure which) are even nicer. They took the time to visit with our student and to speak with him in his own language -after we left, he said it felt as though he had gotten to visit home for an hour. One of the very very few Filipino restaurant near me. I love the customer service. I believe the owner, Angel, is the main person I usually see when I eat there and he is awesome. Priced is a bit expensive but they make everything made to order and quality is very good. I loved almost every dish I have ate except their chicken adobo, it taste me a bit unfamiliar to me. I normally order diniguan or lechon kawali. I've had their pork and fish sinigang, bistek, kare kare, mechado and all delicious! I'm so sorry, but this filipino restaurant has to have a one star. My friends and I went here for dinner one night and we were not satisfied at all. The food was bland. We ordered a soup for all of us, chicken aroscaldo, and it was bland. Literally bland. No taste. We had to physically put in salt and pepper to make it have taste, and we had to put a large amount to the point where we used up like half of the salt and pepper.... I wouldn't recommend this place at all especially if you know, or tasted what a REAL filipino dish is like... Being one myself I honestly think it isn't that hard to mix and contemplate on spices..I could've done a lot better and I only cook when I have free time.. It saddens me because filipino dishes are spectacular but this restaurant opposes that. read more

My husband and I decided to try this place out when we were in Lacey shopping at Cabelas and found this place on Yelp. I am Filipino and my husband loves Filipino food so we were hoping this place was good. We got seated at 5pm by a 15 year boy, I'm assuming was the owners son. There was only one other customer in the restaurant. We were given our menus and the boy goes back to the table in the corner, only a few tables away from us. We were clearly done looking at the menu and ready to order within 2 minutes of sitting down. After 5 minutes I'm coughing trying to get the boys attention who was clearly focused on his iPad. Finally 13 minutes later the boy finally comes to our table after he hears his dad in the back yell "order" The boy takes our order and walks away without asking us if we wanted something else to drink besides water. We ordered lumpia as an appetizer, it took 20 minutes for this to come out! With only 3 customers in the entire restaurant the lumpia should have been on our table within 10 minutes. It does not take 20 minutes to fry 6 shanghai lumpia. After my first bite I was expecting some kind of meat inside, and looked inside and it looked like it was 99% minced carrots. I was thinking okay this is different. We continued to eat them because my husband and I were both starving. Next came our pancit bihon. Um, definitely not the way my mom and aunties make it. When I went to take some noodles off the plate, the ENTIRE plate of noodles came up when I lifted my fork up. The pancit was a big ball of sticky noodles stuck together. We couldn't even separate the noodles with 2 forks and I literally had to use my knife to cut through the noodles. And finally...41 minutes later we are served our main dishes. I get the lechon and my husband has the bistek. My lechon was cold. Really? After waiting 41 minutes my food is cold? My husband said his bistek was good but really oily. We ordered the flan for dessert, it was good but did notice a burnt taste to the syrup. So the owner clears our table and I'm expecting him to come back with the check. Nope he never comes back out. His son is sitting in the corner again with his little sister talking to what looks like their auntie waiting to pick up food she had ordered. At this point it's just humorous to see how bad this service is, so I glance at my watch just to see how long it takes for them to give us our check. Their auntie leaves with her food and the brother and sister go back to doing their homework. Finally 20 minutes later, the little sister looks up at me staring at her and realizes we are waiting for our check. She comes up to us and asks are we ready? I would have said something smart to her, but since she's a kid I say yes as she sees my credit card in my hand. She starts to grab for it and I tell her can I have the check first? She walks away and returns with the check. This was hands down the most horrible service I have ever encountered. I could expect slower service if the place was packed. But with a totally of 3 customers, come on now! Maybe they should hire a wait staff and not use their barely teenage kids as their wait staff. Definitely will not be coming here again. read more

It's so strange to find a Filipino restaurant in Lacey that I had to go in and try it. Usually I am a big fan of Asian cuisine and all I can say about this place is that it tries to be an upscale restaurant without the upscale food. I am not saying that there isn't Filipino food out there that is not good or pricey, but you definitely don't get what you pay for here. My chicken adobe was seriously dry. The lumpia was definitely not home made. I've eaten at a couple of other asian restaurants in the area and they taste the same, possibly because they all buy it from the same asian store. Anyways not worth the time or the money to go here. If I want Filipino food then I'll go out and get some longanisa and make my own garlic fried rice. read more

This place puts Filipinos to shame. My parents were being "lazy" one day and brought take-out from this place, what an awful idea! Everything was under-seasoned (probably rushed) and just plain gross. Their pancit lacked the traditional annatto coloring. Their halo-halo to go was a gigantic cup of shaved ice, with about 1/2 a cup of the milk. I blocked everything else out of my memory. Needless to say, we did NOT eat what we bought. The only reason I can think of for someone liking this place is if they're not Filipino, and never had decent Filipino food. I'm all for sharing the culture, but in this case I say: DON'T GO HERE! My mom is a great cook. She can make any Filipino food you could think of. I don't like Filipino food that much but I do crave it every now and then especially now that I live far from my mom. I called home today because my mom is throwing a birthday party for my little brother tomorrow. She told me her menu: Dinuguan, Pancit, Menudo, Kari-Kari, Kaldereta, Empanada, etc., etc. All of a sudden I had this sudden urge to have Filipino food! On my way home from Olympia, I remebered that there is this place called Cebu in Lacey. I decided to go there and have Kari-Kari. It took a while to get my order but it finally arrived after 20 minutes. The plate had a cup of rice in the middle and filled with the Peanut butter flavored sauce. The ox tail was really tender and the sauce was pretty good (close to my mom's Kari-Kari). You know this is coming so.......my complaint was that there wasn't enough veggies (I love my veggies) and there was way too much onions (big, chunky ones). I like onions, don't get me wrong but I'd rather have my veggies. I also thought that it was a little spendy or maybe I am just cheap.....I don't know but it was a little hard to fork out $21.00 for a Filipino dinner I used to get for free all the time. I was very disappointed with the food. The service was pretty terrible, we got there at 8pm, they close at 9pm, when we walked in the employees were sitting at a table and no one directed us whether to seat or order up front or got up or spoke to us. So we started to walk up to the front counter to order, then someone got up and said "I guess you can sit at that table". If my mom who isn't a professional cook can cook Filipino food better than those actual Filipino restaurants, you're better off staying home with a hot bowl of ramen. My husband made a quick stop at the cleaners nearby and thought of surprising me by ordering takeout for us to share for lunch. Well, we didn't like their "food", but its not the food that pissed him more, it was the service. He said he waited 30 minutes for that "food" to get ready. I just shook my head and called Mom. I've gone to a few places in Tacoma that are way better than this. This doesn't taste anything like Philippines. I asked for boodle style and they gave me a ceramic plate. This was a fantastic experience. It's a small family owned and operated restaurant in an out of the way spot but that makes it all the more a hidden treasure. The food was excellent and the service was wonderful; our host was conscientious. The portions weren't ridiculously huge but were more than enough for us. Not to mention that our water glasses were kept full and when our host noticed that I was running low on rice he offered to bring me more at no extra charge. And not a few grains but a bowl big enough for my husband and I to share. How rare and special is that? I'm no expert on chicken adobo but I loved this. It was exotic yet familiar and I'll be coming back. With friends and family. Next time I'll gladly try a new dish and one of their tantalizing and original looking deserts... Reasonable and satisfactory but not the best experience ever. I Filipino to add M campan pongon and have been cooking since 1997 learned from my mom so I and very critical about how authentic Filipino food is prepared. I had the pork adobo and the calamari and it was amazing. The taste of pork and the fire sauce and the vinegar and the purple steam rice with beans was delicious J satisfied with my palate. I had it with a cup of tea that was from a stash brand and didn't think it was worth $3. My overall dinner meal was $27 after taxes and did not think I will be paying $27 for pork adobo small bowl of 5 column ahri and a cup of tea. The stuff Angeles Kim I guess we're closing up and just county up the revenue while the kids were on their cell phones talking about high school drama or something of that nature.
