I live in Lakewood and had an appointment in Lacey today. On the way home, I was craving some Filipino food, specifically Kare Kare and lumpia. After searching around, I came across Cebu and decided to give them a shot. I walked in and ordered Kare Kare and lumpia for takeout. One thing that immediately impressed me was finding out that their lumpia are never frozen and are freshly rolled when you order them. As soon as I got home, I dug into the Kare Kare. Even though it wasn't made with oxtail, it absolutely hit the spot. I'm not even exaggerating--it was that good. I've had Kare Kare from Maresol's, Max's, and Fil Cuisine before. Found my new favorite Filipino restaurant. Why didn't this show up in any of my previous searches these past two years living in WA?!? We tried several options. For appetizers we had lumpia Shanghai. I suggest letting it cool a bit because it came out steaming. We also had calamari which was delicious. Clearly, they take time to cook the dishes. The beef in the Mechado and Kare kare practically melts in your mouth. My son inhaled his inahaw and he is a very picky eater. My daughter enjoyed the calamari, pancit canton (her favorite) and the lechon kawali. We closed it out with cassava (amazing), kalamay, and of course, halo halo. Everything was so good I even decided to try the dinaguan even though I told my wife I'd never eat it again (and hadn't since I was a kid). You do have to pay for bottled waters or other canned/bottled beverages (calamansi is a got to). Regarding the environment, it gets a bit warm since there's no AC, but it reminded me a lot of the Philippines. There are also many cultural pieces in the restaurant. For the service, yes, there was a bit of a wait but it was worth it. And the server taking care of us was helpful and kind. We'll be coming back regularly now that we know it exists. read more

I was visiting Olympia as an out-of-town business traveler so I ordered from Cebu restaurant via DoorDash just before I left to return to the Asian food desert of South Central Washington. I ordered lumpia, pancit, Lechon Kawali, empanada, and Halo Halo. The food arrived as I was packing my car to go home, so I just loaded it up and didn't eat it until I got home almost 4 hours later. The hello hello had pretty much melted by then, so it didn't look all that great but it tasted delicious. Everything else was perfection. The empanadas were especially good. Driving to Olympia for the Memorial Weekend, and I thought, why not search if there's any Filipino restaurant nearby. Yes! There is! We were seated right away, the minute we stepped inside. We ordered the Empanada appetizers. Pacific Pork Ribs, it came with broccoli, special rice and the Pinakbet. It came with shrimp, pork, eggplant, okra, squash, onions, bitter melon. And, the vegetables are not crispy like stir-fried! They're flavored and cooked just right. Inside, it felt homey. I love the Filipino theme decor. Angel, the owner was friendly, happy (you can tell he's passionate about his restaurant), and attentive. Angel reminds me of a friend of mine, like his 'twin brother'. After we're done eating, he surprised us with wrapped Mangorind. It was another first for us! It's actually better than after dinner mints or chocolates. Cebu (say-boo). Our son has hit a jackpot of excellent, ethnic restaurants in his move to northeast Olympia. We tried to eat at Cebu on Tuesday but it was closed due to the heatwave. We returned today - Thursday, 7/11/24 - for lunch and omg. The Shanghai Lumpia we're crispy rolls from heaven. The flavor packed into these tiny rolls is so satisfying that we all agreed we could have them be the meal. Ever had Kare Kare? This is slow braised beef chunks that melt in your mouth. I did remove the fat from most of the pieces only because I know my gut, but did allow a few, full fat pieces and, yes, mouthgasm. Every chef has their own take on the sauce, but it always involves peanuts and is richly silky. Rice is its friend! The eggplant and long beans were a nice foil to the richness of the dish. Pancit Bihon? This is a delicate, rice noodle dish where the proteins and veggies cook first in a broth and then the dry noodles are added and then soak up all that flavorful goodness. We had to order dessert. They were out of the flan (I'm going back just to try it) and instead we had the Biko. The perfect, Asian dessert. Textures, flavors, sweet and salty. Purple rice is infused with coconut milk and served with a dreamy cloud of coconut cream. It is warm, sticky, chewy, creamy... The owner who serves, is warm and genuinely proud to have you eat his food. He has every right to be so. When we're back visiting our son, this is destination. read more

I love this place! Maybe the paper covers and menu might throw you off but the owner is a great host and server. Great environment and service. My boyfriend's first time trying Filipino food and he loves it. Instant hits and favorite for him. We ordered Kare Kare and Dinaguan and halo halo. Decent presentation, ate so fast forgot to take photos. This place isn't like other restaurants you might be used to. My favorite is the paper covers, it takes you off ur phone and you can draw and entertain yourselves with the drawing materials provided! Life is kind of what you make of it, and if you can make the most of this place by enjoying everything it has to offer then you'll love it like I did. Oh my! Another Filipino restaurant option close by! Had to try it after going to a nearby Pumpkin Patch. First of, the owner was very nice and hospitable. Exactly what you expect from Filipinos. It was like we stepped right into his house! He made me & my son feel right at home. The food is made to order so it will take some time to get your food. We waited about 25min maybe 30min. I didn't know what to expect, it was our first time. Looking at the menu, I thought the pricing was for a la carte or family style. However, each dish is served in a plate w rice. Like a lunch plate. It was the main dish, heavily sauced, and rice on the side. I prefer to lightly sauce my rice so if you are like me I would suggest asking for rice on the side. Here's the lowdown: Lumpia Shanghai- Taste approved by my 5yo. Made to order per the owner and a good portion too! Escabeche- Fish w/ vegetables and sweet n sour sauce. I'm used to it being served as whole fried fish. This was a fillet. A bit too sweet but overall it was ok. Too sauced for me. Garlic Shrimp- Could use more garlic or another level of flavor. Maybe keep the shrimp heads on! :) I did appreciate the Achara on the side. Pork Adobo- The Filipino staple. None is as good as Mom's of course but this one was good enough. I really wish it was simmered for longer because the pork was still tough! :( Will I go back? I will go back when we are in the area. I love the fact how you can choose your meat for the pancit, it was very flavorful. Lumpia , i love to pieces it was the right amount crisp and that crunch was AMAZING! Now the adobo i had the pork one ( only one option) but it was very tender and juice. Please know i was doing my happy dance. The service was really nice. Upon arrival, we noticed that their A/C was not working so it felt a little muggy in the dining area. We started our meal with the Lumpia Shanghai served with a sweet and sour dipping sauce. They were fried just right, not over cooked. Our entrees were the Ginataang Lanka which is a vegetable dish and the Lechon Kawali, a pan fried pork belly dish. The food was solid, but nothing stood out to me as crave worthy. Tried the menudo and pancit, but it was meh. My parents were so so about their choices. Would've given them three stars, but had to drop them to two because the one guy serving stopped taking our order when a call came in and went to another room to take the phone order. I understand that in these times you don't want to lose any sale, but I was taught in retail that when a call comes, you deal with the customer in front of you first because that is a sale in the bag. Ordered the kare kare, sinigang, and ginataan chicken. OMG, all three dishes were so delicious! The kare kare had tender cuts of beef in a rich sauce with hint of peanuts served with shrimp paste. The sinigang was perfectly tart with lots of veggies and lean pork chunks. And last but not least, the ginataan chicken was incredible - the coconut sauce was spicy but flavor was sooo good! They use the freshest, high quality ingredients in their dishes and all are made to order. For dessert we had the halo halo which had flan and ube ice cream. If you want high quality, delicious Filipino food, visit Cebu. Their service is top notch, and the restaurant is tastefully decorated with Filipino art. Sinigang tasted like nilaga, no hint of "sourness" at all, the meat was tough to chew and it had bell pepper?!? So weird! If I were to have a non-Filipino taste this, it would be a shame coz this is not what sinigang should be ideally. The pakbet was too soupy and the cuts of meat were not well thought-of. Before I go on with my review, I have to say Filipino food is one of the hardest to critique. For those not familiar with Filipino food, there are so many variations due to the diversity of its 7,000 plus islands. With that said... I used to dine here with my family when the place first opened roughly 10 years ago and loved their halo halo. I haven't been back since I moved out of Lacey but I joined my family to have Easter Brunch at Cebu Restaurant last Sunday. From what my mom told me, Cebu hosts Sunday brunch for Easter, Mother's Day and Father's Day. What I thought was interesting was that Cebu hosts three different time slots for their brunch: 10:30 am, 12:00 pm and 1:30 pm. It cost each of us $15 ($9 for kids under 6 I believe) to enjoy a variety of Filipino and American dishes which was a pretty good deal. My favorite had to be their spin on mechado since they slow cooked the brisket and the fatty parts were so good. I also like their lechon paxil, pork ribs and chilled salmon in cucumber sauce. I'm not a fan of ginatan but my mom said it was good. The only dish I was disappointed in was their pancit. Initially, I was excited since it looked similar to my mom's which uses both bihon and canton noodles. After one bite, I realized it was on the bland side. I barely had room for dessert but managed to eat 2 slices of the leche flan and some fruit, which were good. They also had chocolate cake, biko and some other stuff I forgot but I'll definitely have to make a little more room for that when I come back for Father's Day. Overall, I really like dining here especially since its similar to how my parents (who are from Mindanao) cook. If you're used to your food being more on the saucy/greasier side then the food at Cebu may not be what you're used to. read more

When I I requested another fork, the new one was dirty, too. The only saving grace was that the food was delicious. Felt like I landed in my mom's kitchen. The owner and staff were all super friendly and welcoming. Everything is made to order so don't be in a hurry - slow down and enjoy your food. The lumpia were freshly rolled and hot from the fryer. I'm super critical of anyones lumpia (including my own when I make them at home) and these were spot on. Delicious. We also got the afritada, adobo, and pancit bihon with chicken. The afritada was rich and flavorful and tasted like the sauces had be stewing on mom's stove preparing to feed her family with love. The adobo was sweet and had different a twist to it, and included star anise and lily flower. Delicious and flavorful. The pancit was also cooked fresh - full of flavor and perfectly prepared. And the rice was their own special and uniquely wonderful touch to an already beautiful and generous meal. We couldn't eat another bite, so opted to order halo-halo to take home - we weren't disappointed. One order was giant and generous, very much enough for 2 people, and didn't skimp on ingredients - kaong, macapuno, mango ice cream, and many other devine flavors.
