Gunsmoke Shooting Range

This is my experience and as these things go, your mileage may vary. It was easy to get to, well marked, good hours, and open hours I like. The prices are not cheap but this is definitely a sellers market, so I thought it was a deal. The person working the range office/check in/store was superb. He alone was going for a 5 star review. Personable, knowledgeable, patient with newbies. I only tried out the 25 yard range and the 22 range. This is a public range with no range officer, the world's dumbest people will be here. We started with the pistol range. While shooting with three students at the pistol range two deputy Barney Fife's came up and walked right up to the stands they wanted to shoot and then started setting up. They either have a lot more confidence in humanity or have no common sense. I'm confident of the later. Then whenever they wanted they would walk up to their target to do their deeds or stand 3' from their targets to shoot. I'm surprised some law enforcement agency signed off to give them shooting privileges. The tables, trash can and other furnishings were well shot up. The berms looked good but had seen some rough use. I'm thinking they need new furnishings and some cameras to keep up on the idiocy. Next we went to the 22 range to do some plinking. Much better on the range manners, but we were the only ones with a 22. It's more of a short range (25 yards) than a .22 range. Many of those black rifles were awesome hog shooters or tactical firearms, I'm hoping the berms were designed for the use. The tables, cover and trash cans here were far less shot up. We finished up with a round of skeet for everyone. They had two of them and they were in great shape. No one cleans up after themselves so lots of shotgun shells everywhere. Also, we had to refill the traps mid-way so I'm not sure if they take care of that (likely not) or expect you to (obviously). I'm thinking the place is minimally cared for and saving on the staffing. Basically, come and shoot whatever and don't get hurt. Or hope no one hurts you. I'd definitely come again, but likely not on beautiful weekend afternoon with all the brain dead.

I spoke with Shane Savage regarding what the outdoor range renting process is and he was super friendly and patient with my questions and guided me through it. It is super simple. You reserve a date and time and hopefully it's open, he sends you a confirmation text and you simply show up. He met with me, gave me a wagon with a fold-up table, free paper target (per person), a staple gun, a bucket to collect your brass, and fold-up chairs. It was a smaller range, but perfect for us, There were both wooden target stands to hang your targets (free to use) and steel targets (for $5 extra or $1 extra for more paper targets). My sons and I were the only ones there so it was nice and private. We signed a waiver, setup our own station, put up targets, and had fun safely shooting your weapon(s). The range is about 50yds, but I specifically brought my kids here so they'd get used to a few of our home defense additions at a realistic distance. He does ask that you pick up and collect your trash and brass. I'd recommend bringing water to drink and a trash bag for your convenience. There is a restroom available. It's a field, so there's really enough parking for you. Shane sits in his truck for the duration of your stay and for any questions or requests that you may have later on. The range is $20 to rent for 2 hours per person, but if you come with more people, there's a discounted price. It was $45 for the 3 of us. I know Shane also teaches classes on safety and other courses, but we've never used those services, but according to the numerous 5 star Google reviews that I've read, it's safe to assume he's an amazing instructor. Very friendly and professional. We will definitely be back in the near future. Mahalo Shane!

I hate to see all the bad reviews and want to say something. I've noticed a trend that…read more shooting ranges, especially indoor ones, have their share of vocal complainers. I'm not sure what they are expecting but gun ranges are not elegant, fancy or going to cater to your every need and whim. They are normally run by an old grumpy Veteran and w a staff that is normally very direct, stern and short bc they are dealing w life and death.. they can come across as rude, but it's not meant to normally. It's the fact they're often dealing with not smart people, not used to shooting firearms, and are casually holding things that kill people.. not your favorite martini. Keep all that in mind and don't expect them to baby you. First, this IS NOT the best range for first time shooters. Can you do it, sure, ideal- no. Second, I love this little range. It's a small, back of the neighborhood type of place. Only 18 yards or so. It's not fancy and only 5 or 6 lanes.. They expect you to know what you're doing; get in, do your thing, use standard firearm protocol for ranges, then get out. The owner has always been nice to me, as w the staff.

I'm honestly confused how this place has over 4 stars. If I could, I wouldn't even give it one…read more Before trusting the glowing 5-star reviews (likely from friends and family), I'd highly recommend reading the real 1-star reviews from actual customers. We even dealt with the OWNER, who was the rudest of them all. The second we arrived, they asked where we were from. We brushed it off as small talk, but looking back, it felt like judgment. We were a large bridal party with both experienced and new shooters. Since this is advertised as a TRAINING CENTER, we expected the staff to be welcoming toward beginners, review safety, and provide proper instruction. Especially since we had called ahead, explained it was for a bridal party, and were told they were "excited to have us." No mention was made about experience being an issue. Upon signing the liability waiver, the owner handed me a Ruger magazine (even after we said we were more familiar with Glock). He gave us five seconds to load it (even after we explained we usually use a tool because of our nails) before yanking it back, saying he had "seen enough," and accusing us of lying about our shooting experience. At that point, everyone was uncomfortable and just wanted to leave. When we told them, the owner yelled that he'd be happy to take our money but didn't want us shooting there anyway. As we walked out, he and his staff stood at the window and stared at us until we drove away. Truly, this was the most uncomfortable and unnerving experience I've ever had at a gun range and we are members at multiple ranges in our home state... I highly encourage. You read the one star reviews of people having ricochet bullets hit their hands and they begin bleeding and need to go to the ER and the owners didn't care. Or about the owner screaming at a seven-year-old. Please check the other reviews before coming here!!
