I've spent literally 1000s of dollars at this shop purchasing one of their Builders Choice kits and literally everything else to complete my engine build. I'm new to the VW scene. The Builders Choice kit I bought was the 2017cc model. When it was time to buy the clutch disk, I looked through their online inventory and chose the one labeled for a "2 liter engine". When it arrives I find the dimensions are too big for the fly wheel. So I call them up to explain and ask for how to return it and exchange for one that will fit my needs best. I believe I spoke with Dave. He asked me if I had measured the flywheel prior to ordering. Humbly, I said no. I asked for his advise on which one to exchange it with and his response was, "I don't help people who don't measure things". I explained that now that I had known it was the wrong part I have measured it. That appeased him, I guess, and recommended the one that had an idea would be correct and meet my applications best. He then told me that type 3 or 4 engines are called "2 liter engines". I did buy the clutch from cb but that clarifying information would have been great info to include in the online description to avoid confusion... but that was missing... Hmmm. What a horrible attitude Dave has. I'm sure he's never made a mistake. I don't feel welcome at your shop anymore. I keep his comment in mind for all purchases since then and when there's an opportunity to spend my money elsewhere, I do. Thanks for the advise, dude! read more

Mark Lawless helped me tune a sand rail using the CB fuel injection and spark management computer. This guy is a master technician. We connected my laptop to the engine and he remotely tuned the car from his computer, this is a car that has been sitting for about 3 years. I was ready to install carbs and a distributor in this thing. Once I contacted Mark, he assured me that the system could be tuned and would be so much more efficient and with a few key strokes the engine started singing. This is what I call service. I have been buying parts from this business since 1976 when it was called Claude's Buggies and plan on doing business with them in the future. I am totally pleased with this business. Nothing but bad experience with this company. The name has been around for years but that doesn't mean their standards and customer service have remained. Ordered a set of 044 heads and the cylinder mating surface wasn't fully machined so it took some lapping to true up the head. Cylinders were Mahle's and I checked them on a surface plate. Their high flow oil pump and faceplate required removal and extensive lapping (checked with dykem). Increased my oil pressure from near 0 to a minimum of 20. Had to pull the heads a second time because of stripped plug boss due to porosity in the casting (not excessive torquing). Remedied with carbon steel Time-Serts. Have left quite a few tech related emails with no response. But give them an invalid email address at checkout and they'll personally call you within the hour. Sounds like a company that's only interested in making money and not keeping the customer satisfied. Nothing bad to say about the design of their proprietary products but their QAQC and customer service is complete garbage in my opinion. I will not be a return customer. read more
