I walked in and spoke to Dave/ David I believe, he heard me out. I told him about the situation I had at Bridgestone where they changed the front tires but once I received the car, it started making a thumping sound. I showed him a video he saw it; however he still wanted to check out what the issue was himself. Apparently the rear tire was feathering, he showed me the issue, and all I needed was a new tire, whereas the tire shop was trying to charge me for a new wheel bearings which would have been over $1000 easily. Sent my Ram 3500 mega cab in for Thuren suspension upgrade. I provided the parts. Leveling coils, front and rear shocks, sway bar, track bar, and rear leaf springs. Accurate diagnosis, fast service, and good price. Brought my Odyssey for suspension clunking checking. Diagnosis costed way less than from another shop, and repair was done in 30 minutes. During the repairing, they found the splash guards were broken, and did the extra work of point-welding free of charge. After having the steering gear box replaced on my 1988 Chevy. I noticed the steering wheel was @ 11:00 versus 12:00 when driving straight. My local mechanic stated for alignment & front suspension issues. He only trust & would recommend Gross & Steven's. Suggesting having them replace the steering coupler, which had some slack from wear. And with that & a wheel alignment they would be able to correct the steering wheel alignment. In speaking with Jeff. There was zero doubt he knew his business! Scheduled me for an appointment. After replacing the steering coupler, a worn pitman arm, and the front alignment. Sure enough not only was the steering wheel back @ 12:00, but I could feel the steering was tighter with zero slack! The steering felt like it did when I drove it off the lot 37 years ago. As recommended, this shop's technicians are top notch. And the work was completed within the estimated time. I know now where I'll be taking my vehicles for wheel alignment, suspension issues and noticed they also perform brake service. I told Jeff I'll be bringing in my "89" for brake service. And once my 1956 F-100 restoration is completed. I'll be bringing that into the shop for an alignment. Took my truck here to get aligned after buying new tires. I was told that my truck with 50,000 original miles needed ALL of its balljoints replaced or "they couldn't guarantee the alignment." I received a detailed invoice. A less than $100 dollar job was now almost $1200. I ordered my own parts and in doing so saw that they mark-up the parts they sell you by over 110% in addition to their labor costs. Upon removing the old balljoints they were as I expected. They were all evenly worn some, but still in serviceable condition. All the rubber boots were still intact. None of them flopped about or were loose in their sockets. Under normal driving conditions, you can expect to get at least 70,000 miles out of a set of balljoints. After replacing the balljoints and returning, I was now told that one of new ones was defective and to change it again. Having installed them myself, each one of them felt very tight/stiff in its socket and required two hands to move about. I have done most of my own repairs on my vehicles for the past 40 years. Having done alignments myself in years past with bubble gauges and measurements, I have a sense of what was going on here. You are not getting away with just getting your vehicle aligned here without getting up-serviced whether you need it or not. They will not show you/prove to you their findings. They won't say a word to you until after they take your vehicle off the rack and park it. This is my impression: You aren't going to get off here on the cheap, the minimum you need. They ARE going to find something wrong with your vehicle. For a do-it-yourselfer such as I, they are going to play games with, punish you, for trying to save yourself some money on car repairs. read more

Unfortunately, this business has no respect for the neighborhood where it is located. I reached out to the owner about some problems that I had regarding an overpowering flood-light that baths my backyard and makes it impossible to spend time out there at night. I have a projector and we enjoy watching neighborhood movies in my backyard this has made it impossible. I spoke to the owner about this and I'm very kind and respectful manner. He practically laughed at my request and told me a lie about not owning the surveillance lights that are at his establishment and not having a contact person whom I could reach regarding the lights. I only wish I should give them a ZERO and here's why. We live in San Diego, however, my husband was raised in Visalia. His mom lived here until she passed recently. We were here doing some estate work and then going on to Sacramento for a family reunion. (Mine). Starting tonight at 7:30. this evening. Running late now for the reasons below. We had some time today so my husband thought he could get get the front end aligned on our RV before we left. He took it this shop at 8:15am. They said it would be ready by 12:30 ish no problem. This allowed us plenty of time to get to Sacto. We were busy and kept thinking they would be calling anytime Finally my husband calls at 3:30. They had NEVER even worked on it!! And they did not have the courtesy to call us to say something came up. A simple explanation and sorry would have sufficed. Nope. They never even called us! AND when my husband dropped it off this am he told the girl at the desk we were just passing through. The reason we were given for nothing being done to our vehicle was that some City vehicles had come in and needed to be worked on. Ok. Sure. I get that. That's maybe their bread and butter and the alignment was not a have to even to us BUT where is your customer courtesy to call us and tell us they couldn't get to it!! We could have picked it up and left on the rest of our trip!! No problem. They didn't do that though. We had to call them!! They were closing in 30 minutes when my husband called them. Were they just going to close up and leave it behind their gates? Were they going to assume that was ok too? I'm still appalled at how in UNPROFESSIONAL this company is. Incompetence.. I am being told a excuse every week & still waiting for job to be completed

I am a new customer by 3 months now. They have worked on my 1992 Jamboree Searcher since I bought in Sacramento. It only has 7K Original miles on it. Yup, that's right 7,000 + Original miles. Since it has been sitting this long I know it may have some issues. These guys stepped up to the plate and hit a Home Run. They checked the brakes, all fluids, suspension, Etc. They found dry seals, old brake fluid, etc. They are great. Now they are working on the Parking Brake Cables to be replaced. Since it has been parked for over 20 yrs. with the parking break on. They have stretched out a bit. Thus the Parking Bake peddle inside was not able to hold the motorhome in place on a slope at all. These guys are pro's and want the job done right every time. Your in good hands with Gross & Stevens. I brag about them to anyone I meet that owns an RV. I took my vehicle to Gross and Stevens for brake work. When the work was completed and I set the parking brake at home I put the car in neutral and the car rolled down the driveway. I took it back for them to make it right and when I got it back home and tested it again, it rolled down the driveway. I had to make the adjustment myself. After waiting for two hours for an adjustment that took me 30 minutes. This is concerning because this is a vehicle safety feature that should have been checked by the shop before l left. This place is awesome! I was working on my own car trying to replace bushings in lower control arms. Having trouble and I called Gross and Steven's and spoke to a young lady who transferred the call to John. He quoted me 62.00 to press the bushing in. When I arrived I spoke with John and he took my LCA with no questions asked, pressed the bushing and returned it to me with a smile on his face. I asked him how much do I owe you? John said, "Nothing, you're working on your car and it's not a big deal to help you". Wow, I dropped my jaw. And was totally impressed. Very surprised there are only 2 reviews here as the company has been around for years. I have been coming to Gross & Stevens since the 90's. Because of the type of cars I drive these days I don't see them very often, but when I'm in a bind they are the first ones I call. I know if they can't fix it they will point me to someone who can. My last two experiences with them have been REMARKABLE! 2 years ago I ran over a hidden curb and messed up the wheels and other parts on the passenger side of my car. Getting new wheels from the dealer was super expensive so they went on eBay, found a set of 4 of the same wheels I needed for less than two from the dealer, bought those and fixed my car. It took a while, but they got the job done right and saved me money. This past weekend (between Christmas and New Years) I was out of town, hit a bad pothole and bent a rim. Knowing it was going to be difficult to find a rim, let alone get it to me quickly during the holidays, I called John. He told me to send him a picture of my rim and called me back shortly thereafter to say he found one of my old ones that would work to get me the 500 miles back to Visalia where we could work on a permanent solution. He boxed it up and UPSd it to me that day. I received the rim, and more drama. The place I took it to had problems with the lug bolts. John stayed after closing hours on New Years Eve to try to find me a set of lug bolts he could overnight so I could get my wheel back on and make it back to Visalia for work on Monday. He didn't find the parts, but kept trying until I found them locally. I don't know many other people who would do that. It's not like I'm a regular customer anymore - I hadn't been there in over two years, but he went the extra mile, just like he always does. I can't recommend Gross & Steven's enough. I'm a new customer this year of Gross & Stevens. I replaced tires on two cars, and the tire folks recommended Gross & Stevens for alignment. They told me that there was no special arrangement with them. They referred people there because of the quality work. I was pleased by the neat and professional look of the place and the courtesy of the people. The technician visit d with me afterwards and explained what was done. I later found out that he was one of the owners. The pricing was very fair. They even extended a courtesy discount because of the referral source. That was three months ago. I went in again this week for the other car. Same quality service and courtesy. What was interesting is that I was not charged for the rear wheels because the alignment was not needed. I was quite surprised and pleased. When is the last time an auto repair place said that they were charging you less because service was not needed? The answer for most people is "never." Yes, Gross & Stevens is 5-Star. I'm not related to anyone there, so this is a factual and sincere review. read more

While on a 5,000 mile RV trip in May/June 2019 we had the misfortune of a bent axle on our 5th wheel trailer which destroyed one tire in the first 500 miles of our trip. We had the great good fortune that this occurred near Visalia and we were directed by a RV repair guy to call Gross & Stevens. Al, at Gross & Stevens, had us bring the trailer in and in short order confirmed that the axle was indeed bent ( turns out it was the spindle that was actually bent). I was expecting him to say that he could not work on it for a week or so but, to my happy surprise he told me to bring it in the next morning and he would squeeze me in to get me "Back on the road" We brought it in at 8:00am the next day and left it. Turns out that the repair was more complicated because my trailer mfg used unique axles so replacing the damaged part with standard stock parts was not an option. Al assured me that they could straighten the spindle. By 2:30 the trailer was ready for pickup and we were on our way. Throughout the process Al was pleasant, professional and very helpful. He explained the issues and repairs in terms I could understand. Even some of the guys working on my trailer were very polite and professional. While we were waiting we observed Al helping another customer and were surprised by how helpful he was to this potential customer. The cost of our repair was VERY reasonable. This is my first Yelp review because no other business has ever impressed me as much as Gross & Stevens. They even gave me a recommendation to a shop near my home in Oregon. Walked in to G@S today willing to hand over cash to replace my B&W gooseneck hitch. After standing in front of a silver haired office manager that is clearly incapable of managing phone calls and a new customer with cash at the same time I left a long time Visalia business thinking they won't ever get my money. He was upset that the phone kept ringing. Imagine that a business that is upset that the phone is ringing. I waited while he blew me off for three phone calls. When he finally got to me he rudely told me that he didn't know anything about hitches and I would have to wait for some guy driving around somewhere to get help. Well you know what maybe they shouldn't be a B&W hitch shop if they guy scheduling work doesn't know jack. I went down the road to another longtime Visalia business and got my work and hitch job scheduled in 10 minutes. read more
