I wish we would have read the Yelp reviews before renting through Vacasa. These guys were the local agent for Vacasa. They were not helpful. We were offered early check in but when we arrived at the office at 2 PM to pick up our keys the office was locked and he sign said be back at 3:30 PM The unit had multiple things wrong with it including: * Needs to be painted. * Rust on the window frames, oven and shower * Rug torn and stain. * Shades that are stained * Broken chair (we were pre informed about this) * One burner on stove top didn't work * Linens that don't fit the bed. * Dangerous steps to the beach with no railing at the bottom * Coffee pot that takes 30 minute to brew. * Décor that is 50 years old We did appreciated the dishwasher soap they provided but we can't locate a dishwasher. My family stays in Cayoucas every year at a beach house rented by Morro Bay Vacation Stays or their sister company Cayoucas Vacation Rentals. They have an excellent selection of homes available and make the process easy. The homes we have rented are right on the beach with excellent amenities. The staff is professional and its simple to get checked in and out. I am appalled with my stay at one of Vacasas rentals, I am sharing this because we spend a ton of money renting these beach properties and when you see one that is ran by Vacasa you would expect top notch! Well anything but that rented a place in Pismo Beach first the sheets dirty and I can tell you that because I found underwear in my bed second hair in sink and shower dirty glasses in the cupboard so when I called the mgr Tiffany she was rude as hell, yelling at her child in the background no business ethics whatsoever. We have rented properties using Cayucos Vacation Rentals in the past. A lot of homes that we rented were fairly old including this one at 2692 Studio Drive. They could use some serious updates/upgrades. We could have rented a nicer homes with less or same price away from the beach, but love the oceanfront homes too much. The first disappointment was the stairs that lead to the beach. They were blocked off and we had to use a public access to get to the beach. Immediately upon our arrival, I spoke to James. His response was "we never advertised that you have a direct beach access". I told him that they implied that we do because of the pictures on their website. It didn't say the stairs are no longer used or it was just for "the look" only. Good: 1. great view 2. plenty of supplies of towels, blankets, etc. 3. Nice deck (though we didn't really use because of weather. It rained everyday except for one day) Bad: 1. No direct access to the beach 2. Everything is old in this house, appliance, furniture, etc. Drawers don't close properly, paint peeled off, etc. 4. A lot of appliances are not working properly. * Missing upper rack in dishwasher * Half of toaster oven not working (only one side working) * Oven light not working (by the way, fan and light switches are way on top that you can't even reach. if you are 5'6" or shorter) * Stove top, bottom right works on and off (have to wiggle the coil) * Dishwasher is terrible. Ended up washing manually with hands. * Shower curtain is so thin that it gets stuck to you when you take a shower. Please replace it with a little heavier one. read more

We've rented houses from Cayucos Vac Rentals once or twice a year for the past four years, and have rented houses all along the coast of California for the last 15 years so we have a lot of experience doing this. Our son has autism and I have to be a bit picky about where we go so that his needs are met and that the rental house is suitable--not too fussy with decor and spacious enough. I've been really happy with this company. The selection of houses is substantial and I love, love, love that I can get deposit "insurance" instead of having to fork over a huge deposit and wait for it to be returned to us. But we also try to be good temporary tenants--keeping our expectations reasonable based on the house, reporting problems immmediately, or if they are no big deal, making sure the company knows about them when we leave. And living lightly in the space--we bring what we need on the trip and we take care of the house while we're there. My husband loves to go to the Pie Man deli when we're there and my son loves walking on the beach, so I expect we'll be back in the future. We already have a booking for August and hopefully more in the future. And I can't wait! P.S. I do all my transactions with Caycucos Vac Rentals online, by email or by phone,and when I drop the keys off at the end of the week, it's pleasant and easy too. read more

My family and I do not recommend using this beach house rental business. Office staff were rude and unprofessional with us. We recently experienced an incident in their office that subsequently put a black cloud over the start of a much anticipated vacation/family reunion. The office staff we dealt with this year was unaccommodating to very simple requests. We have rented from them every summer for the past 5 years, and were shocked by this blunt rudeness and discourteous attitude. We will definitely be using another rental company now for future vacations. read more

We were very pleased with the beach house selection this company chose for our large family. It has always been my dream to stay right on the beach in a really neat house and wow did they ever come through for us. They were very polite and professional. I have switched to Highway One Rentals which is much better than Cayucos Vacation Rentals. I believe Cayucos Vacation Rentals charges the highest commission of any of the property management companies and though experience I received by far the least amount of rental income from any property management company and this is after not blocking off any of the summer or holidays since I have other vacation properties to use. I also wonder about their employees, things were disappearing that vacation renters, I would think would not normally take. I had brand new sheets and pillows replaced with old worn out ones from some other properties that even had addresses written in ink from other vacation rentals that had to be thrown out. read more

We rented the 150 Crows Nest house. We never rented a house before, so we didn't know what to expect. Below is a list of things we found during our stay. Be very careful of the stove bc it stays hot even when it's turned off. I burnt my hand on it. They said its normal. Things to bring and to watch out for. TP Washcloths, they only give you 3!!! They expect you to use the washing machine Towels bc u only so many Cell phone, no phone in the room (not all ppl have phones) Frying pan and turner bc hard to flip eggs Batteries for the clocks Internet sucks, can't connect No or screen shade in bathroom by toilet Warning the stove top is hot Fire alarm goes off when ur boiling water No AC or fans if u come in summer Not a gas grill bring ur own charcoal If u cannot climb stairs do not rent. Narrow stairs and easy to fall down if u aren't paying attention. They do have a baby gate though. Ashtray if u smoke outside If u want u can wash ur three washcloths in their washer and dryer Laundry detergent No screen in bedrooms, bugs can fly in. Do not stay here. They are misleading with their reservation policies. I booked through hotels.com and they refused to follow the guidelines and wanted 50% payment upfront and 100% payment 30 days prior, even though hotels.com said I would not have to pay until I checked in. I think if you are going to do business online via hotels.com, you should have to follow their rules. If you don't want to, then don't lure people in that way. They also had a hidden $160 charge on the room that was left out of the hotels.com pricing. Sneaky. Dishonest. Rude. read more

I am sorry we stayed here. I thought I was getting a great deal. The name said cottage so I knew it'd be small. Just didn't realize just how small. The bathroom sink was so small it was so hard to brush your teeth. The parking said use garage or parking space. There was no garage and the parking wasn't covered. It was under a tree that got sap all over our van and ruined the interior of the other person staying there. The smoke alarm went off just warming a tortilla. The queen bed was so soft - ended up with a backache. The noise was so much from the local bar. Other than the location being great and walking distance to everything. I would never recommend this location. I even checked out one night early so we could get a good nights sleep. read more

We have been renting vacation homes in Cayucos for over 8 years. We initially used another management company. We had an issue with the other company and came across Cayucos Vacation Rentals and have never used another company since. They have the largest selection of rentals, especially beachfront homes. Cindy and James ALWAYS bend over backwards to accommodate my families wants and needs. We can call last minute and they have always found us the perfect house. Over the years, Cindy and James have not only made our time in Cayucos some of our best family memories, they have become friends. There is nothing more important to my husband and I than family time and making memories with our children. Cindy and James have been a big part in making these memories possible. A few of our favorite houses are: 784 Pacific- One of our favorites for 4th of July. We rent this one whenever we are able to. It is just perfectly located for convenience. It is also great for entertaining. The backyard is perfect for the 4th of July or having friends over to bbq. The house is older, but ocean front, a gated front yard, an amazing ocean front back yard with a beautiful deck and fire pit area, stairs right to the beach. It has a lot of history and is pet friendly. 525 Pacific-It is across the street from the beach. Big front deck. Very comfortable. 99 5th Street-This one has a hot tub. We rented it one year for Thanksgiving. 399 Pacific-This house is great for a larger group.It has a room in the back for the kids with 2 sets of bunk beds a twin bed...... It has 5 bedrooms and a nice kitchen. It has a wrap around deck with a hot tub. It is across the street from the beach. Great for entertaining. We rented this one for my daughters 10th birthday and brought a bunch of her girlfriends. They had a blast! 33 23rd St- We just rented this one for the 1st time Memorial Day weekend. This house has 3 bedrooms and 2 1/2 bath. It has 2 beautiful decks upstairs on either side of the house. It has every amenity you could ask for. We will definitely be renting this one again. We cannot think Cindy, James, and all the staff at Cayucos Vacation Rentals enough for all of their help, patience (I can be very difficult to work with and please), and always working with me to find that perfect rental for whatever occasion we are coming to celebrate. I will never use another rental company! ******Always remember, whenever you are renting a vacation property, not just in Cayucos, but anywhere, always remember to fully read what amenities each home comes with, and what they do not supply. If there is ever a doubt, always ask the rental company. I always bring extra beach towels, pillows, and blankets. I don't like to take the rental units towels to the beach. We always like extra blankets and pillows. I also have a few kitchen items that I love at home, so I also bring those for my own convenience. I have found the people operating this company to be extremely rude. Their terse approach to talking to potential customers is extremely off-putting. Kind of ruins your day when you try to talk to them. They've also lost our reservations in the past. I can't understand how owners allow their homes to be represented by these people. Avoid this company at all costs. Really a shame too, because Cayucos is a great small town, but they're ruining it for the rest of us. read more

This is the 2nd time staying at the Captain's Quarters and we love the rustic charm and great location but feel they need to update the beds (very uncomfortable, contemplated sleeping on beach last two nights), wish all the bedrooms had TV's and less dusty/musky couches. The big farm table was nice to eat and play games in the evenings. Walk to the beach is so close and you can hear the waves crashing at night. Duckies, Pie Man and coffee shop are extra bonuses while staying in Cayucos. Really cute little court yard. Hope the beds are upgraded!!! read more

Poor experience. We reserved a house 4 months in advance of our annual family vacation through Cayucos Vacation Rentals. When they switched to Vacasa, they failed to tell us that the property owner of the house we rented decided to no longer manage through them. One week (one week!) prior to the trip, the company let us know we would no longer be able to stay at that house and that they would have to put us in another house. Unfortunately, the replacement house was very disappointing and, worse, it was exactly across the street from the beautiful house we originally rented which remained unoccupied all week. They are crediting us back the difference between the original house and the one they gave us, but we are very burned by the experience. The replacement house was very uncomfortable. We used the same company last year for a rental and had a good experience...unfortunate to have had such a poor experience this year. We will be using another company next year. read more

i love cayucos vacation rentals! like... love! i've been renting from them since 2006 and i have found every interaction with them to be fantastic -- so much so, that when i got married in cayucos last year, i booked out almost every beachfront house they had for my family and friends. they were so incredibly accommodating with all my guests and really worked with me to make the weekend as easy and stress-free as possible. i've always loved the houses i've stayed in -- and they always worked with me to pick out the best one for my needs. as i said, i've rented from them at least 3-4 times a year for the past 8 years... and there's no one else i'd go with or recommend! cynthia, james and the entire staff are wonderful! read more

Our family paid for a 7 night's stay at a beachfront residence at 784 Pacific in Cayucos, California. We booked through Cayucos Vacation Rentals. After our 2nd night, we discovered spiders in the master bedroom bed, both showers, the children's bunk bed unit, as well as a cricket in the sofa sleeper. Needless to say, we vacated the premises after our third night. When made aware of the issue, Cayucos Vacation Rentals was slow to act and failed to offer an equitable solution to the problem nor a refund for the unused portion of our stay. The office manager, Cindy, has been especially difficult to work with regarding our complaint, as her condescension and stubbornness to recognize the severity of the issue has essentially fallen on deaf ears. We paid over $3,000 dollars total for a stay for a beachfront 2-star residence masquerading as a 4-star. Thus far, we have not been able to recoup any of the money we've lost ($1,700 dollars). Businesses are measured not by how they handle praise but how they respond to complaints. Cayucos Vacation Rentals has been absolutely abysmal in this regard. There are other vacation rental business in Cayucos. I encourage anyone who is looking into a stay here in Cayucos to book with a different company. read more
