It's not as family-friendly, though--there isn't much space to spread out, and it's better known as a snorkeling spot. The area is known for sea urchins and stingrays (though I didn't see any), and while the shoreline is a bit rocky, I still enjoyed swimming there. The scenery here is stunning--honestly even prettier than Flamenco, with mountains creating a beautiful backdrop. Just keep in mind it doesn't have the same amenities as Flamenco, so plan accordingly.

The path is well marked and curves frequently. The first section is downhill and over rocks that can be slippery. Hikers should be in decent shape and the hike down can be slightly precarious at points and the hike back is straight uphill. Upon exiting the canopy you emerge on to a truly perfect (and probably empty) beach. It is SO beautiful and un-touched. If you go to Culebra and are more into adventure then a hike to Resaca is totally worth it.

It has two main beaches, Tortuga Beach and Playa del Sur (South Beach). Tortuga Beach is by far the more popular beach. Many consider it to be Puerto Rico's best beach. I love Flamenco Beach, but I won't argue with Tortuga's beauty. It also has a natural pool. Playa del Sur is great in its own right. It is smaller and has less beach, but I find it has better snorkeling. It is also more secluded and quieter. Tortuga Beach's biggest problem is it is so popular it can get too crowded. Unless, you have no other option, I would say suggest avoiding this beach on the weekends and holidays. It becomes a marina, so many boats. That also means somebody is more than likely to fill the air with music blasting from their stereos. Their inner dj fills them with the need to make sure everybody on the beach knows what they are jamming. If you are interested in sampling both beaches, there is a trail that crosses the middle of the island d and connects both. I believe it is takes 15-20 min. Another hike I strongly recommend is the hike to see the ruins of the old lighthouse. It takes about 15-20 min and is an easy hike. Best to wear shoes or sandals that aren't flip flops. But if flip flops are all you have then it's fine. My wife hiked it in flip flops. You will notice a dried up lake in the middle of the island. The view from the top is spectacular. There is the lighthouse itself, but the real prize is the view. You can see the whole island and beyond. Breathtaking. There is Cayo Norte, a smaller island, to the north, and some other tiny island's. To the west is Culebra, maybe even Vieques on a clear day. South is the open sea, and to the east, on a clear day, you can see St. Thomas. Excellent photo and selfie ops. As you cross the middle of the island, on either hike, you might hear or see goats or deer. Culebrita is a must visit of you are staying a couple of days in Culebra. The only way to get there is by boat. If you don't own one or have friend that does, you can always male a reservation with a water taxi service or charter an excursion. There are a couple that offer rides to Culebrita, and other places such as Cayo Luis Peña (great for snorkeling). H20 Water Taxi, Cato Norte Water Taxi, and blue Water Excursions are some examples. The each have a Facebook page with more info, as well a a Yelp page. You can always ask local businesses about other services and/or their recommendations.

There were a few boats but it was very chill and relaxed. I was with my family, uncle, and a cousin and his family and some friends. I found a beach that's EVEN BETTER: Playa de CoreyG (I proclaimed it with this name since it appears to be a nameless beach) What do you think of when thinking of the lovely Flamenco Beach? o White soft sand o Crystal clear waters o Warm comforting water o Peace These are all great and good, BUT y'know what? Playa de CoreyG is even BETTER---because it has all of this x10! This beach is TOPS in my book because of its seclusion. The beach is just off the small island of Culebra on the even smaller island Cayo Luis Pena. The only way to get to this beach is by taking a boat (I kayaked) from Culebra, and going to the other side of the island (it's less than a mile away.) On the other side of Luis Pena, you will round the corner and find one small sandy nameless cove. Go past this one and go to the next cove. This beach is a bit bigger. Ride a few waves in and you will be at the world's BEST beach: Playa de CoreyG. The beach isn't very wide, but there's more than enough room to lay down your towel and soak some rays, read a book, or take a nap (don't forget sunscreen!). I spent a few hours here. While here, I was followed by another couple. They dropped off their kayak and did some snorkeling. The water is magnificent--super clear & the sand is nice and soft with very little rocks to worry about. There are views of even smaller islands off to the north/west. This is what I imagine Flamenco Beach was like before it became discovered, touted, & touristy. I should have stayed longer, but I wanted to circumnavigate around Luis Pena to get back (BIG MISTAKE). First off, paddling around the rest of the island is long! Secondly, when you get on the other side of the island you run into some rough seas (wind & waves will pound you.) Two & a half hours later and 10 blisters on my hand, I made it back to Culebra. In hindsight, I should have just stayed on my beach longer and went back the short route. It's OK. I will be back. My beach beckons.

I guess maybe if you have a boat also. The hike is about 20-30min. However, it's worth the trek. Very beautiful and isolated. This beach is known for its surfing. So if you are a surfer, this is your beach. However, the undertow is strong so I suggest if you are not an experienced surfer then this may be too dangerous. Because of the current, it is not recommended for swimming. This beach is ideal for surfers, photographers, and those who want to chilax on the sand away from crowds. Also, this beach is a popular nesting ground for sea turtles, as such the area is closed to the public after sunset.

Also, the price was very reasonable for what you are getting. The room was comfortable and we loved that we had a kitchen to cook in. We went to the local grocery store to get food and prepared it in the kitchen. We also loved that there was no TV in our room because we never watch TV on vacation since it reminds us of being back home and it wastes the trip away. lol :) We loved that they also provide beach towels, aside from the bath towels. My daughters enjoyed swinging in the hammock in the front of the property. Juan greeted us personally and showed us around when we first arrived, and we felt very safe staying here. The property feels very private and quiet. It is away from the public beach entrance side of Flamenco Beach which is nice because the beach in front of this property doesn't get so crowded. While staying at Culebra we took a water taxi to Culebrita Island for a half-day trip, and that was breathtaking and a must-do. Staying at Villa Flamenco Beach was a wonderful peaceful retreat away from city-life and we loved every minute!! The location can't be beat! We HIGHLY recommend Villa Flamenco Beach to anyone. It is a gem!
