Would not recommend coming here. I booked a vacation based on all these amazing reviews about these beaches like seven seas and playa colora and let me tell you they are lying to you. It does not look like these pictures and it's swamped with people in tents . Instead we booked 3 days to icacos island which was amazing and would deff recommend going with the salty dog crew

She said too bad we are full call the agency for a refund. We did not take a 1.5 hour uber just to be brushed she could have at least see if the other tours can help us out as it was already chaotic. They waited for people to all come in and then rushed us out. Once on the water the tour guides were really cool and helpful but sadly we didn't really see the bio illumination much. One they admitted to drop the anchor in the wrong spot and 2 it was a full moon so we needed to put a tarp over us to get as dark as possible and even then you don't see much. You're literally kayaking blind until you get to open waters get covered to not see much and go back in the dark again. We tried to make the best out of it but the lady in the front just ruined the vibe given our group was split.

Chances are if you have come to Fajardo to pilot a kayak through a mangrove forest to experience…read morethe tiny glowing dinoflagellates of Laguna Grande, you will begin your adventure here at Parque Pasivo Las Croabas. Most days around sunset, the place is teeming with tourists who have come in from San Juan or other distant resorts just for the evening's bioluminescent bay (or "bio-bay") tour. Numerous tour operators are stationed all around the dock with huge racks of kayaks, and streets of the park are lined with other vendors taking advantage of the crowds. Another reason you might visit this park would be to catch a water taxi over the Pasaje de San Juan to one of the white sand islands of the Cordillera Keys Nature Reserve. There are a few companies offering the service to Cayo Icacos for around $25 per person, just a quick 20 minute ride over the choppy bay to your own Gilligan's Island fantasy. We used Captain Mingo's yellow boat (search TripAdvisor for more info) and had a great afternoon of snorkeling, swimming, and lounging under the shade of our own palm tree. We actually spent our recent PR vacation based in Las Croabas, so I visited this park every morning during my run through the neighborhood: down the hill to the park, up past Ocean View Condos and the police station and back down to Seven Seas beach, then past the Las Cabezas de San Juan Preserve (which surrounds Laguna Grande) and back home. It's a much different place early in the day, with grizzled old fishermen and their wives sitting in the shade, sipping cafe con leche before a day on their boats or staffing the many restaurants and pubs overlooking the small harbor. On New Year's Day, a meetup of classic car aficionados was in full swing, complete with party music and picnics. Everyone was excited to show off their muscle cars and allowed us to photograph at will before we ventured over to the rocky shore to pick up hands full of polished beach glass. Local families use this park as you would any neighborhood park. The new pirate ship playscapes are enjoyed by small kids and the many colorful pavilions (with a sturdy concrete food prep area) can be reserved for birthday parties and other celebrations. Know before you go: -- No swimming at the adjacent beach. It's choppy & surrounded by boat traffic. -- Restrooms with sinks are available, but bring your own toilet paper; it doesn't seem to be replenished often. -- Parking at evening/night can be a challenge, with the influx of bio-bay goers and diners at the restaurants surrounding the square. -- Do make reservations if you intend to eat dinner nearby. There are no walk-ups, except at the few food trucks.

I recommend wearing water shoes as you'll have to walk through thigh deep water to get to the kayak. You want to plan your trip as close to a new moon as possible as you want to eliminate as much light as possible to really see the glow. Annoyingly there is a neighborhood above the lagoon with bright spotlights but facing the water way and lingering near the other side of the lagoon the bioluminescence is still very visible and a total blast. The guides even brought us a tiny jellyfish to observe and see how it glowed as it wiggled in our hands. I wouldn't even bother bringing your phone, I highly doubt you'd be able to capture the glow while holding still enough in a kayak. Navigating the mangroves was tricky because the guides blue lights were just bright enough the destroy our night vision and not see the low hanging branches. I would hope in the future that the guides would switch to red lights to make navigating in the low light easier.

There are dozens of other tour companies out there as well making it feel like overcrowded amusement park rather than nature. The mosquitoes and biting flies added to the misery. The Bio Bay was such an amazing experience that I feel fortunate to have been able to capture. The thing that was frustrating is both of us have experience kayaking while it was the first time for majority of the others. We chose the 6:30pm trip so we could enjoy the sunset before heading out to the bio bay. The trip into the bio bay was smooth, you move with the current. We got to enjoy the bio bay for about 30 mins with the tour guides going through the history. They were very interesting and funny might I add. On the way back, you are traveling against the current and this is where we started to get irritated because the inexperienced kayakers weren't paying attention to the guides and kept bumping into us and each other. We kept passing others who somehow kept getting themselves stuck in crevices that they had no business getting into because the guides literally tell you to keep in a straight line. All in all, it was a great experience and I would still rate it 5 stars because the tour guides really tried their best to make sure everyone was enjoyed their experience. We were told that only mirrorless cameras were able to capture the bioluminescence. I was able to catch it on video using my iPhone 13 pro max but it doesn't capture the essence in stills.
