Nice enough beach but the other beach I went to in san juan was way better. The water is a little murky so I didn't go in & the beach itself is kind of small so it's not the most exciting but I will never complain about going to any beach with palm trees. I went in the evening around 7 pm and it wasn't busy at all. I think they actually close at 8 so if you are the type that wants to rent a beach chair, make sure you get there before 7 (I tried to get one but the employee said no because they were closing soon). I would recommend just for the fact that its a beach & its near a lot of hotels & attractions. read more

This is the typical beach where everyone goes in the metropolitan area in Puerto Rico. It is pet friendly (obviously) and a great place to gather with friends & family. It is street parking like any other beach but on a weekend between 10am-12pm there is no parking! it's the peek when everyone arrives. You can you side to okay beach tennis & volleyball as well (the beach has designated areas for these activities). The waves here are always pretty high so I do not recommend this place for a baby or unattended toddler/kids. Also, the shade is WAY in the back so you need to bring your umbrella because the caribbean sun does not joke around. There re plenty of good places to sat & drink nearby so you'll be fine! read more

BEAUTIFUL beach with pretty and calm waters, plenty of wind and (best part) not crowded from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. on a Sunday! It's deceptively cool because of the wind, and because I wasn't at all hot, I left with a slight sunburn. There were kite boarders in the water getting lessons and I also saw jet skis. The water is that pretty green color in the most shallow areas and bluer as it gets deeper. The sand is fine and not uncomfortable to walk on. My accommodations were a block from the Taft Street entrance, so that was a very convenient walk. For others, you may need to Uber there since there's no real parking to be had. read more

Went on a Saturday, arriving at 12:00pm and boy was it busy. There's no parking lot, just a lot of tiny narrow streets where you can try to find a spot on the street. That was one difficult task as all spots were taken at this time of day, so the tip here is get there early on a Saturday! We eventually parked in a yellow zone (like many others) and thankfully never got a parking ticket. The beach itself is deep with some nice sand and just a bit of seaweed. There was a place renting beach chairs and umbrellas for the day. Lots of people of all ages were enjoying the sun and all were behaving themselves. The water was warm but very rough so I wasn't going to take a chance swimming in it. No lifeguards are stationed here. I also didn't see any change rooms or bathrooms. On the plus side, it's free. read more

This beach begins in the gated, upper-middle class neighborhood of Ocean Park. The community is open to the public until 10pm so you can park in the neighborhood. The beach is very narrow in the neighborhood. I was told this is because of Hurricane Maria several years ago. In some places, the waves are crashing right into the concrete seawalls, which must be scary for the beachfront homeowners. As you walk west on the beach, it widens up and there are several high rise hotels. There is a beach restaurant in-between the neighborhood and the high rises. The beach is not very crowded (December, before Xmas). It gets full sun in the morning, but becomes shaded by the houses in the neighborhood by the afternoon. There are lots of well-trained dogs running with their owners. When I visited, the waves were very rough and there was a rip tide warning. However, you can still get wet in the surf. There are no lifeguards. read more

I have seen my share of beautiful beaches and this one will be added to my top 5. This beach is the main reason why I choose the Airbnb I stood in; because of its proximity to it. Staying five blocks away, I had the privilege of visiting OPB twice a day. Ocean Park Beach is spotless all around, and quiet. Even on fairly packed days, the beach was never loud or dirty. Then again, San Juan is as clean as it gets. This beach is perfect for kite surfers. Not once during my 17-day stay was the water calm enough for me to go in (that and the fact that I am not a swimmer). It was mostly at high tide all the time, and the waves were just insane but I enjoyed it all from my beach chair; where I took plenty of naps while listening to the crashing waves. Do check out this beach if you are staying in La Isla del Encanto! ***Beats Isla Verde Beach when it comes to peace and quiet. read more

I would definitely recommend this beach for anybody. It's very safe, and definitely kid friendly. Me and my boyfriend stayed at an Airbnb apartment less than a block away, and came here almost every day of our stay. Definitely bring your own towels and chairs. There's a boutique hotel that rents out lawn chairs, but it's a little pricey! The beach itself is very clean, and the water is gorgeous!! It's a little rocky in some parts, but not very bad at all, and it's 98% smooth and sandy. Highly recommend! read more

Great beach, generally clean but sometimes you have to deal with trash. You can rent umbrellas and chairs from the Guest House if you want, and they also have a bar. I want to caution though that the water is pretty dangerous at this beach, and the riptide is very strong. Enter the water with caution. There is no lifeguard. I unfortunately visited the beach on a day when someone died from drowning. While this seems like a rare occurrence there, it highlights that one should only enter the water if they are a strong swimmer. Other than that, the beach is in a safe and trendy neighborhood and it seems like the local spot where people go on their day off. You see some tourists, but it's mostly families enjoying the sunshine. It's close to many casual eating spots like Kasalta and Tresbé, where you can dine in your swimsuit and cover-up. read more

If you want a beautiful, quiet beach day during your stay in Puerto Rico, visit Ocean Park beach. We walked a little past the beach area in front of the park (like we were making our way to Condado). This beach was nearly empty -- mostly locals enjoying a day in the sun. We parked ourselves in front of Pamela's to use their umbrellas and chairs. (We bought a drink and appetizer to "rent" them). This was a last minute decision to visit this beach as we had an hour to kill before heading to the airport and it was the closest beach to where we had eaten lunch. My only regret is that we didn't have more time to spend here. On this day the waves and water were perfect for playing in. I didn't get in, but I really wanted to! The sand was perfect and there was a mix of shade and sunny spots to please everyone. It was pretty empty midday on a Monday. There were a lot of locals walking their dogs and people bringing their kids after school. Very quiet and a good place to nap or watch the waves. read more

Local here. This is my beach. I grew up here and saw this beach everyday from my window for eighteen years before I went to college. I've traveled the world and nothing compares to the beaches in Puerto Rico, this one included. The water is always warm, the sands are clean, and the ocean is that perfect tropical blue all these other famous beaches around the world claim to have but really don't. Ocean park kind of melds with Condado beach (although I think the Condado beach reviews are mostly for the beach by the Marriott, past the rock barrier). You definitely see tourists but there isn't a beach on this island that isn't frequented by locals. They're all free and open to the public (except one tiny notable exception over by the Hilton). I'm always baffled by people looking for a beach will go to Florida or California when you've got the best beaches in the country here in Puerto Rico. And like I said, we live here and no level of tourism will make these "not authentic" (strange term for a natural formation)...which should be better for tourism anyway. This beach stretches all the way from the hospital to the beginnings of Isla Verde past Barbosa. Definitely the further east you go the nicer the water is. Really the nice beach starts over by Kings Ct or Calle Krug...west of that the beach is kind of narrow and too wild. It's probably nicest and widest by the Green Gate (local landmark) before it gets a bit narrow again. This is where it gets the most crowded. Although I don't think I have never not had a place to put down my towel. Also, support local business by renting a chair but there aren't any nasty sand flies like in other American beaches to stop you from plopping yourself down on the sand. This is an open-ocean beach. There are no natural or man made barriers to calm the waves and I've seen my fair share of accidents. This doesn't mean you can't go swimming here. The water is fantastic but make sure you keep an eye out for rip tides if you decide to venture deep. Once in a while you'll have some days where the winds are still and the water looks like a plate (plato, local term ;)). That's when you drop everything and go in. No rocks. No plants. Just beautiful patterned sand through clear waters. Fair warning, don't leave your kids alone here! Especially if they are not strong swimmers. The current is quite strong and will drag you west down the beach before you know it. But that doesn't mean you can't play in the water here-many a baby is baptized in these waters before they ever go in a church. And any kid here will tell you how awesome the body surfing is. It stays relatively shallow for a bit before it drops off and you should be good there. So Ocean Park Beach-beautiful, warm, wild, clean. Keep it clean! Be smart! Be careful! Enjoy :) read more

Just a little east of Condado beach, just north of my hotel in San Juan (Hilton Doubletree), this was the first beach I hit for proximity. More of a small feel than the surrounding beaches, with a greater sense of privacy and a nice view of the boats and surfers to the east. A great place to lay out and relax for some private time, we had a mini-picnic here and Condado is just to the west. Clean and beautiful clear water. read more

This was one of the lesser populated beaches. Overall, the sand and the water was on par with the other beaches on the northside of the island. But for some reason it was just less dense here. I guess because there are no hotels directly connected to this section. If you opted to pick a more affordable hotel not beachside, I would recommend at least visiting here. read more

We stayed at an Airbnb near this beach and visited it several times throughout our trip. This beach is like a park, while it gets busy, it's never as packed as any Toronto beaches. Which makes sense, considering PR is a hot climate, and an island, and beaches can be found all around it, unlike in Toronto. So while there were people here all the time, it never felt overcrowded. It was nice to have this beach so close to us, that we could just walk over to it and enjoy the warm waters and hot sand. However, this beach was a bit rocky just past the shoreline, into the water. So often we would be jumping around trying to avoid the rocks, or jumping because we had just stepped on some. Plus there's some areas where the sand just disappears. So if you're like me and like to have your toes touch the bottom while your head is above the water, this is something to be ware of!! Beyond that, it's a great beach. There's someone selling ice cream near by. There's an actual park and a parking lot. And there's a decent beach and warm water. Definitely worth the visit, esp if you're nearby! read more

If Waikiki is the best American urban beach west of the Mississippi, than surely Ocean Park is the best to the East. But unlike it's Hawaiian counterpart, this beach strikes the perfect balance between tranquil and festive. Indeed, it's the Goldilocks of beaches, so while it might not be exactly what you're looking for in a beach, it will certainly suffice. read more

Compared to New York, Chicago, and California beaches, almost all Puerto Rico beaches are amazing and feel like bathwater. Compared to Condado beach, Ocean Park is a little more authentic Puerto Rico. There are more families, cookouts, etc. The downside is that the beach is pretty rocky in some areas, and I definitely cut my foot in a few places. But it's a beautiful beach, with multiple palm trees and nearby aquatic sports (wind surfing, kite surfing, etc). read more

I love the way this beach looks!! This is a great area to rent if you're interested in renting a vacation house or condo and it doesn't look like a bad area to live. Parking can be tough. I don't like to swim at this beach because the waves are almost always to big for me. But if you're looking for a nice place for a picnic or a walk than this is it!!! read more

This is one of my favorite beaches. It is filed with locals...this is more for the tourist that wants to be around more of a nice laid back local scene. The people are more friendlier than at the common tourist beaches. It was a fairly clean beach. There is a great truck that sells drinks and pina coladas right in front. There is usually plenty of parking spaces, unlike some of the other tourist beaches. There is also a park across the street. Which is great because it had a bathroom. I would say it is more for the 15 to 40 crowd. Everyone brings their own music. Their is plenty of security. Each time I have been there is a cop SUV parked at entrance and they are always walking around. It is a smaller beach, which I really liked. This is my second year in a row coming in town for Spring Break and I am in my 30's and I make it a point to visit this beach. It had the total package. read more

Wonderful beach with big waves ... perfect for body boarding. We absolutely loved Ocean Park beach. It was a lot less crowded than the other beaches by all hotels.
