    Dome beach

Yelp 100 Challenge 2017: 21/100: Probably the most popular beach in Rincón, Puerto Rico. Interesting facts about Rincón and this beach: 1. This beach has hosted, for many years (minus for some period of time a few decades ago) many Surfing contests and people who visit this beach usually visit it to surf. Not recommended to bathe and take the kids. 2. Because some huge surfing contests used to be held over more than 30-40 years ago, a huge "wave" of North Americans moved to Rincón and settled there. So, this city of Puerto Rico has a lot of either retired North Americans or North Americans that moved in the past and raised their families here. It's interesting that in this city, most people talk English and even a lot of the local businesses are owned by North Americans. 3. This beach is called "Domes Beach" since their is a huge dome right in the entrance. This Dome used to be part of a chemical plant that was closed after it was discovered that the beach was being polluted by it. 4. Finally, after years of the Chemical Plant being closed, local working hard to keep it clean, right now this beach has been restored and is one of the cleanest beaches in the area. Very popular amongst surfers and locals since Rincón's lighthouse is here in this "Rincón" of Puerto Rico (Rincón is Spanish for corner). Also, besides visiting the lighthouse and the small plaza there, a lot of people like to hike around the coast of this beach since there are some old fort-like ruins from when the Spaniards would protect the coasts of Puerto Rico, right before Puerto Rico ended up being United States territory. A must on your "to do list" when in Rincón!

Tucked right in the heart of San Juan, Playita del Condado is proof that size means nothing when it…read morecomes to beauty. This isn't one of those sprawling, endless beaches it's a protected, almost tucked-away cove, shielded by rocks that keep the water calm, clear, and ridiculously inviting. While much of Condado's coastline can get rough with waves, this spot stays mellow, making it perfect for floating, swimming, or just standing there with a drink in hand pretending you've got nowhere else to be. Now let's be honest about the vibe. This place packs out. Locals know it, travelers catch on quick, and before you know it, every inch of sand is claimed like beachfront real estate. You want in? You show up early, you bring your gear, and you guard your spot like it's beachfront gold. Blink, and it's gone. And then there's the unofficial ritual: grab one of those smooth, not-too-strong piña coladas nearby sweet, icy, and easy going. But if you came prepared with a little extra "motivation" tucked away? Well, now you're not just at the beach... you're living right. A little mix, a little sun, and suddenly the whole day hits different. What really seals it is that convenience factor. Being steps away from where you're staying? That's dangerous in the best way. One quick walk turns into an all-day affair, and before long, this little stretch of sand feels like your personal backyard. Playita del Condado isn't trying to be the biggest or the boldest it just quietly delivers one of the best beach days you can have in Puerto Rico. And honestly? That's exactly why it sticks with you.

It's small so make sure you get there very early or else you won't have a place to lay your towel or blanket. It's also nice to come at night and enjoy the views of the businesses across the water and listen to the waves. Bonus tip, bring cocktails for added pleasure. FYI: The Piña Coladas they sell here are very expensive and low in alcohol compared to most places on the island but it is nice to have one in a pineapple while enjoying the beach and water. BTW: bring everything you need to enjoy a nice day here because it's one of the most amazing spots on the island and if you leave you'll lose your spot. I miss you Puerto Rico!!! Enjoy a Piña Colada for me ;)

The beach and water are beautiful. The water was prettier than I expected and very warm, but the surf is choppy. The down side of this beach is many vendors walking to try and sell you their homemade foods (questionable), and everything requires cash only. Be prepared, but don't leave your items or bags on the chairs. Lots of trash left on the beach, even though we were told it was very clean. People smoking pot everywhere, so everywhere you are, you are down wind of it...doesn't make for a pleasant beach experience. Enjoy the views, because that's about all you will enjoy during your visit, although I did eat the best empanada I ever ate at a stand at the entrance of the beach for $3.50. At 4:30, The Beach Boys grab up your shade and lounger so you have to go find another place to sit, or just do yourself a favor and go to Playa Pinones, drive through the food area and just past you will find the most beautiful, private beach areas there and the best food. Skip Isla Verde.

Mins you this beach is popular and can get crowded. You have beach tennis and volleyball courts on one end and the Aquasol Carolina Water Park on the other end. There are plenty of gazebos you can reserve, which is nice if you have a party or big group. We headed over to the water park and then the area of the beach closest to it. Not the best spot but we still had a good time. Because the beach is near the airport you'll get to see and take pics of planes taking off. On the far right of the balneario is a grassy area. There is plenty of space there if you want to fly a kite, throw around a football or frisbee, or even play some soccer. There is also a giant colorful elephant statue. I like that this beach has lifeguards. I also like there are efforts made to keep people for drinking from glass bottles on the beach. Nothing worse than broken glass hidden in the sand. There were officers patrolling the the beach and they are nice about it. Instead of dishing out fines, they'll ask you to put the bottles away. One of the officers was extra cool and let our kid get on the 4 track for some pictures. As for food, we brought our own so I didn't venture off to look for kiosks but I'm sure they were around. At least the water park has a snack bar.
