Cairnwood Estate

Immigrant John Pitcairn came to the U.S. with nothing, but amassed a fortune in an impressive…read morerags-to-riches story. He commissioned Cairnwood Estate, a spectacular Beaux Arts home, for his wife Gertrude and their children. Sadly, Gertrude died only three years after the home was complete, in the late 1800s. Lesson learned: don't ignore signs of a ruptured appendix! Pitcairn's family followed the teachings of Emanuel Swedenborg, founder of the New Church. The spectacular Bryn Athyn Cathedral, with an active congregation, is located on Cairnwood's grounds. The property -- I believe the whole thing, including Cairnwood -- is now owned by the Academy of the New Church. We took guided tours of the estate and gothic cathedral. Beautiful, fascinating and well worth a visit. The docents impart a wealth of information. Frederick Olmstead -- whose name you may recognize from NY's Central Park -- designed the grounds with preservationist Charles Eliot. The estate is a popular venue for wedding receptions, but unless you're a parishioner of New Church it's off limits for ceremonies. "How come?" I asked the woman who guided us through the cathedral. She hesitated. "The church is socially conservative and doesn't recognize gay marriage." So there's that. Learn more at BrynAthynHistoricDistrict.org, and sign up for tours on line. Concerts, dances and other special events are scheduled throughout the year.

Krissy was so personable and a great help with answering any and all of our questions. The estate is absolutely breathtaking and a great option for a wedding. This was our first tour so we are still deciding on where we will end up having our wedding, but this was a great start!

I wasn't going to post this but if you actually sort reviews and don't just look at the top good…read moreones you'll see a lot of the same. Customer service. Old food. Lack in quality. I've mentioned in previous reviews that this location is not my favorite, I still prefer the Warminster location and that was true until I had gone recently and they moved their bakery. We had spoke to others as well who live closer to doylestown but still go to Warminster because it's just better. Maybe I'll go to Warminster when I'm in a pickle but overall I think I am done with the altomontes store. It's sad to say but this once great small business is falling and I know it will still continue to pull all the doylestown locals with $ to burn. So if you're happy serving lesser quality at exuberant costs to keep this inflated mecca Italian wonderland - so be it. But the heart of this business and the quality that Mike started is no longer. You guys really need to start paying attention to your business and stop trying to keep grow grow growing and doing all of the stuff on social media if you're not going to invest in the business and quality of what you already have. Got overcharged for pasta that literally had prices posted over all the aisles by $1 a box which sure isn't a lot but it adds up. Especially when people are budgeting and buying things by a cost. And if you're doing that to me then how many other people? Just go change your signs if you're increasing costs! They also don't have the same desserts here that they do at their alto cafe which was sad to see. I also don't appreciate how the ordering has changed. As others have mentioned too the deli counter isn't nice and they don't want to cut you fresh items. I also was directed to the pre cut deli case when I just wanted fresh cut meat. I'm just tired of spending my good hard $ at a "small business" that isn't so small any more. And forget about the quality too - I know I've posted before but the quality is not what it used to be. It's obvious they care about the bottom line then making a good product. The specials are aborrhent as others have mentioned - which as I've posted in reviews is especially sad because you see a photo of the product online and get something that doesn't even resemble the item you ordered. Its a shame that all these changes are taking away the quality and what many people loved. Sometimes it's not always best to expand and shift the business to be trendy and social media centric. Sometimes it's better to stay small and true to the original quality rather than being out of touch from the people that have quite literally helped you build your business.

Never disappoints! Clean and professional! The bakery in my option has gone down in quality. That…read morewas my favorite. Unfortunate but everything thing else is pretty good.

This review is strictly on service alone. I am a door dash driver and today 5/3/26 I came in to…read morepick up a door dash order during the breakfast shift. The host told me to go to the bar to pick up the order. So I stand where she told me to and the bartender greeted me in a very rude manner. I told him that I am picking up a door dash order. He basically scoffed at me, told me he has nothing to do with that. I said the host told me to pick it up here. He continued to give me an attitude telling me "oh well." Then a minute later after he turned his back on me, he started yelling across the room with the host about me being directed over to the bar to get an order. They fought briefly over who should be responsible for finding out about the order. Nothing was settled between them and the bartender said nothing to me about whether he was going to go check on it or someone else was. I just continued to stand in that spot and a few minutes later, he did go get the order for me. First off, why was so this hard for this guy? ALL he had to do was ask if I am being helped, then when I tell him I am picking up an order, all he had to say was "Ok, I'll go check on that order for you." That's it, that is all it takes. Instead he gave me nothing but attitude as if I am annoying him and invading his space. Sir, your JOB is customer service. That's it. Do your job! If you cant do the bare basics of customer service, then you shouldn't be working in a restaurant. I don't know his name but his arms were covered in tats and he had a full dark beard.
