First, this is a Muni! You can not expect a lot. Played the course a couple of days after a lot of rain. So yes, it was wet and muddy. But not that bad what I expected. Cave Creek has a lot of dog legs, and blind shots. There are a few water hazards throughout the course. When I first arrived, I really thought it looked like a flat and easy course. Was very surprised how challenging it was at times. You need to play smart, and not play out of your range. Had a fund day, we had an 4-1/2 hour round. Everyone was nice and the cantina had a great brat!

If you are a Northern California resident like me and you're looking for someplace to golf in the Phoenix area, what I'm about to say will amaze you. Phoenix residents however, are apparently quite used to this: Okay. I paid for 18 holes for myself and my nephew, a riding cart, rental clubs for said nephew and a dozen golf balls. The entire total came to $89!!! That won't even cover the green fees at most courses around the San Francisco area! All this for a Friday morning tee time. How crazy is that? The course is very straightforward with a Rating/Slope of 71.9/122 from the tips and 68.3/117 from the forward tees. I honestly thought it played a little easier than this, but then again the Arizona Golf Association doesn't have Pebble Beach or Spyglass to view as comparison. There are two forced carry holes but otherwise, any novice should be able to get around this course without wanting to give up after the Front 9. For a muni in the middle of the desert, I was pleasantly surprised at the condition of the course, the greens and the tee boxes. Brown patches of grass were few and far between. The greens rolled fairly smooth given the amount of play. I can't comment on the pace as I never saw the group in front of us, nor was there ever a group behind us. All in all, it was a fun course at a great price. The caveat of course is the oppressive Arizona heat. Figure out how much water you will need, then bring twice that much. I would reccomend wearing a wide-brim hat, LONG SLEEVE golf shirt and slathering sunscreen on any and every exposed piece of skin. How these people put up with this year round is beyond me.

It's a very nice course. The Ranger needs to be a little more present, but other than that, it's delightful

Solid place to hit the driving range or practice your short game. We didn't have time to play 9-18 holes.

When a friend (not just a buddy...anybody that that invites me to play at a place like this is someone that you would seriously entertain donating a kidney to) asks you come out a play this track, I only have one word for you...go. If you have to clear your schedule, fly home from a business meeting, tell the kids that daddy just can't be there for the piano recital or t-ball game, just do it. Why? Are these courses the best in the world? Well, I would not go that far. There are a number of courses around the country (and even in Arizona) that I think well of...but this place is definitely in the top five. Whisper Rock has two beautiful desert courses. The Fazio 18 is as nice a desert track as you will find. The sight lines are superb, every hole lays out nicely in front of you, and you will need to think about every shot (including your putts...remember where Phoenix is, and remember that these greens are generally pretty close to tour speed). There aren't houses surrounding the course, and it does feel like a walk in the park (OK, a desert park, but you get the idea). The caddies are great...uniformly impressive in their knowledge of the game, their knowledge of the course and their affability during the round...they all pass the beer test (would you want to spend a cross country flight having a beer with these guys as your seatmate? Yes=pass;no=fail). The entire staff is superb and at the same time welcoming and friendly. There is none of the country club crap that you occasionally find at some clubs (I was member at Blackhawk in Danville, CA for many years, because I lived there...but I always disliked the snooty atmosphere...it was one of the big reasons that I didn't join a club when we moved to AZ). Whisper Rock is a GOLF club, not a country club and everything revolves around that fact. The practice area is, frankly, the best I have ever seen! It's difficult to imagine the golf shot that you can't practice here. The facilities and surroundings are beautiful...pleasant and comfortable, but elegant nevertheless. A number of tour pros and TV golf personalities are members at Whisper Rock and I see why. Terrific courses and practice facilities, comfortable surroundings, real camaraderie and friendliness from everybody. What great week for golf!

Upon checking in and paying, there is an assortment of putters and color-coded golf balls so you know whose ball is whose. Our party of six (max players in a group) played our way through the black 18-hole course in about an hour. Tiger Woods designed this course with two 18-hole courses, red and black (his Sunday colors) and it's a surprisingly challenging play. The green carpet is dense and plush, not like the Astroturf of many similar courses. The "sand traps" are areas of white carpet that is slightly shaggier than the green. Food and beverages are available on the course with a QR code to scan and order, there is a nice outdoor spot where we sat and ordered lunch. Next to us was a play area with ping-pong and bags, and a fenced toddler play yard. Our lunch was good and I highly recommend checking it out if you're in Scottsdale!
