The restaurant was spacious and looked clean. I ordered a build your own grains bowl with grilled chicken. The bowl also came with a free pita bread. At first I was a little disappointed about the bowl not being filled all the way, but it was still pretty satisfying. I would not recommend ordering for pickup. I waited well over my pickup time and watched person after person who came in after me order and receive their food. I was less than impressed as I ordered ahead of time to reduce my wait. The place was clean and food was alright but the experience was not amazing. When they have everything for toppings then this place is 10/10! I get disappointed when they are out of certain veggies then it doesn't complete the cravings. I literally can come here weekly. You get your moneys worth here! I always go create your own; white rice with super greens. I added the taziki sauce and red pepper hummus with their original chicken. For toppings I ask for extra corn, pickle onions cabbage broccolis, cucumbers, tomatoes, feta cheese , and olives. I will get their garlic dressing on the side instead of the house dressing. It was my first time there on a Friday night. While in line, a manger shouted out that they ran out of white rice, brown rice and potatoes. Once I was in line and started building my bowl at each station, I was told there was Jo garlic sauce. Once at the topping station I was the. Told there were no more cucumbers or corn! This is vital information I thought should've been mentioned at the beginning of the line before getting to each station to discover the missing options. Also, the girl working the sauce station said she had no idea there was garlic sauce when another employee grabbed the garlic sauce. Also, it wasn't even 8pm and things ran out. Very disappointed. First time coming here with a few friends. We came here on a Friday night around 7:45. We waiting line for about 10 minutes, restaurant fully packed with mobile orders waiting for pickup . The manager comes out and states they ran out of the special white roasted sweet potato's and both brown and white rice (30 minutes for the rice to be completed from then) They also ran out of garlic dressing and many toppings. Not very prepared for a Friday night on a holiday weekend. Maybe turn off mobile ordering if the store can keep up I opted in for the sour cream pita chips. They were good but that's all I got. Thought I would tryout the new cava restaurant for lunch today. Located in Newington the Berlin turnpike cava is a Mediterranean restaurant serving bowls and pitas . I ordered the harissa avacado bowl which had the harissa honey chicken , feta , avacado, pickled onions, hummus, fire roasted corn , rice , supergreens and harissa vinaigrette. The harissa flavour is a little spicy ( just a little kick to add flavour ) All the ingredients were fresh and delicious I enjoyed the bowl ! Perfect for a healthy lunch ! The portions were large , I ended up eating about half and saving the rest for later . I also got the blue berry lavender drink, which was really good. However the lavender flavour was strong overpowering the blueberry flavour in my opinion. Overall highly recommend, I will be back to try the chicken and rice bowl next read more

I love the food here, which makes this experience even more disappointing. I placed a mobile order with a promised pickup time of 8:15 PM, but I didn't receive my food until 8:35 PM. If the receipt says "promised time," I would expect the order to be ready around that time. People have places to go, stop the pick up orders if you can't get them done on time. To make matters worse, my order was incorrect. When I first checked it, I noticed my dressing was missing, so I had to go back and ask for it. Then, after getting home, I realized they had given me spicy red harissa sauce instead of red pepper hummus. Those are completely different items, one being MUCH spicer then the other. The most frustrating part was the lack of acknowledgment or apology for either the delay or the mistakes. I was simply handed my food and sent on my way. I've eaten at recently opened Cava a couple of times now. It's a Mediterranean fast casual. I've had a falafel wrap that was full of tasty sauces, pickles, and veggies. It was very drippy, but super tasty. I've also had a Harissa avocado bowl with chicken. It was maybe a touch spicy for me, but again, It was full of flavor and a step up from most casual chains. We tried this new place in town tonight. We all enjoyed our meals very much and decided we will def order from there again. I don't know about the ambiance because we ordered delivery but our order was correct, hot and delicious. We ordered the grain bowls, basmati rice, grilled chicken,pickled onions, fiery broccoli, Grilled corn, tzatziki sauce, harissa, shredded lettuce, .... You get to choose basmati, brown rice, or black beans. Or half n half. 2 sauces, 12 or so toppings, a full order of protein or two half orders. Very customizable and very good. I've been to this location roughly 50+ times for lunch with co-workers in the past year. The food is always good, the staff is mostly pleasent, and clean. Unfortunately, the past few visits has felt like whiplash. Very nice, kind, and friendly vs. short, rude, snarky. They offer a first responder discount and have always honored military with the same discount, however, lately it's been an attitude when asked (I've never been combative and just pay-go without saying anything), faces of disgust or humbling under their breathe things I wish to not type out about their feeling towards military or "how cheap I am for asking". Went to Cava in Berlin Sunday evening. It was just ok. I ordered online which was slightly more convenient than a toothache. It was my first time. When I got there they told me they were out of the main protein I ordered. I replaced my lamb meatballs with hard tasteless steak. The vegetables were ok. K ordered a chicken bowl and mentioned numerous times that she wasn't sure there was any chicken. Then she found a tiny piece. In the end, I wasn't sure what we were eating. The blondies for dessert were blah. Did I mention I spent $42.00 and change for two salads, two small blondies and no beverages. I am happy to pay the price for high quality food, but. I was a 4-5 times per week customer of this CAVA, but I won't return again. I generally order carry out on the way home from work, and my order is usually either done or just a few minutes from being done. Today, I ordered ahead as usual and got a receipt, but didn't get the normal text. My order wasn't ready, and I talked to a cashier. He looked at his screen, saw my order, and said it would be coming up. After 10 minutes, I went up to talk to a different cashier, she saw my order on the computer, pressed "send", and only then did I get my text saying we've received your order. I proceeded to wait another 10 minutes while standing in front of the cash register, just to receive nothing. I can understand the occasional mistake (they make plenty), but I won't accept an employee watching me wait and not even sending my order to the kitchen after I arrived. It's apparently not important for this location to retain customers as consistent as I've been, and I will caution others from going to this location. I absolutely love CAVA and the food - the poor rating is specifically related to the disrespect from the staff. read more

I ordered the Greek salad to go. I liked that you could double up on certain ingredients to an extent without an extra charge. However, I asked for extra tzatziki sauce and didn't get it. Food: "is decent when the have it" Service: I am unsure if service staff are not compensated fairly in comparison to CAVA's expectations (especially if other comments have left similar concerns, and there has been no accountability or acknowledgment by CAVA) However, the staff are TYPICALLY cold and unfriendly (whether there is a line or no line). I wonder if this behavior is purposeful in order to have shorter lines. Since I don't pay there bills and they don't pay mine, if and when I do decide to get CAVA (my last order was in Feb). I avoid the line completely and pick up my order. However, I have done this less and less. I will start to build and order and remember I have to enter the building to get my meal...and the staff do an excellent job not making you feel welcomed that's for sure. ...again it speaks to middle/upper management... because to many reviews have been left and not one has been acknowledged. I am so excited that Cava finally opened a location near by in Newington. We are in the area often and the fast-casual scene has been getting stale, Cava definitely brought more life. They are located in a brand new development with other soon-to-open businesses. Cava serves Mediterranean pitas, bowls/salads, and fresh juices and teas. They build your pitas and bowls in front of you--like Subway and Chipotle. All the ingredients are fresh and they warm up the pita too. There is a list of pitas and bowls, but you can customize or build your own. My husband and I decided to go with the Steak Mezze Salad and Spicy Greens bowl. Each bowl came with a slice of pita. The Steak Mezze Salad had steak, feta, corn, tzatziki, red pepper hummus, pickled onions, arugula, spinach, and drizzled with Greek vinaigrette. I loved my Spicy Greens bowl which had falafel, feta, a scoop of red pepper hummus , fiery broccoli, fresh cucumbers, lentils, dark leaf greens, Skhug (spicy herb, hot sauce), Harissa vinaigrette (red chili dressing). This bowl was pretty spicy and I definitely would get it away. To drink, I tried the Blueberry Lavender tea which was AMAZING. It was light, refreshing and perfectly sweetened.All their sodas, teas, juice and lemonade are self-serve. Like the Blueberry Lavender their juices, teas and lemonade are made in-house. I can't wait to try the others since I loved my drink. The restaurant wasn't too busy when we visited, but word will get out soon that they are open. You can order online for pick up if you want to avoid lines. The inside is very bright and open. I enjoyed the vibe, the colors and decor. My hubby and I went at about 7:30 on a Friday evening. When we got there, two people were working the fryers and one person was constructing the orders. (He mentioned to my hubby that they were down a person). I ordered a bowl--I was glad that I could choose the ingredients. Several of the counters near the ingredients had food that had spilled over. My husband ordered a Falafel Crunch Wrap. He was glad he could change ingredients that he was allergic to. When it came time to choose a dressing, he asked if the standard one contained sesame, since he is allergic. The server suggested a different one instead, and said it did not contain sesame. When I went to get utensils, most of the places that should have forks (etc) were empty, and 2 of 3 napkin holders were empty. We sat down to eat. One bite and my husband realized that the substitute dressing did contain sesame. Since it was all over his wrap, he couldn't take it off. We checked the website, which lists nutrition info and allergens; that dressing wasn't even listed! Luckily, his allergic reaction was not life-threatening, and he was able to get home and take an antihistamine. However, I am concerned that the employee dishing out the food did not know what the ingredients were. As we were leaving and disposing of our trash, I noted that all the trash bins were overflowing. On Saturday afternoon around 2 PM, I visited this place, and there were about five people ahead of me in line. It took approximately 12 minutes for the staff to complete their orders. When it was my turn, I asked for basmati rice but was informed they had run out. I was offered brown rice instead, which I declined, and it took another five minutes for them to prepare the rice I requested. By the time I made it to the register, it had shut down and wasn't working. At this point, the line was almost out the door. While the food was good, the staff was clearly overwhelmed. The shortage of staff made it difficult for them to keep up with the orders, which caused delays and frustration for customers. Given that this is a brand-new establishment, I believe they should consider having more staff on hand to support each other and ensure a smoother experience for everyone. Waiting 20 minutes to place an order is too long, and both staff and customers deserve a more efficient system. read more

Ever since trying this place in Virginia two years ago, I have been waiting for it to arrive in CT. I fell in love with this place when I first went there. The staff was super friendly even while being extremely busy during the lunch rush. I love Mediterranean food and love that this place exists now in CT. I love the drink selection here; you can choose to get canned, bottle, or fountain soda featuring a brand from Maine. Long wait for my food. Waited 30 minutes. When she looked at my receipt to make it the first time she rolled her eyes. Then order was made wrong. I went back in to have it remade and the woman who made my bowls insisted she made it right. She then started arguing with me and then told another worker "don't remake that bowl for that girl". So I was really looking forward to getting something to eat at cava since it's been a week. I go in and the sweet girl with the very soft spoken voice takes my order. I dont know if her pay rate gets goes up if someone's bowl is less but I swear she gave me half portions of everything I ordered. Tiny amt of rice, tiny ant of salad, the dips were regular since she had to use a scooper but when it came to proteins, she scooped up chicken, and needed to lighten up what's on the scooper by wiggling her spoon back and forth till there's half a scoop of chicken. She did that twice!!! Like seriously, whyyyyyy? I walked out of there with basically half a bowl cause everything was light. Def not a happy customer today. Then the skinny girl taking payment was all annoyed caused I asked for a cup for water and a bag to take my food home. Again, what the heck, why is it that I need to ask for a bag. My food either need to be in a bag by default or you should ask if I want it in a bag. Im paying you, why am I asking for a bag. Not sure if this is normal. This restaurant has the potential to be better than Chipotle and others if they fix these issues. The ingredients are great. The store is nice. They charge a premium price for certain products and consumers are willing to pay but you have to have A+ experience to be willing to pay.
