We purchased a brand-new Crownline boat/engine/trailer package from Causeway Marina in May of 2019. After careful consideration of the events that occurred during the transaction process, I have an obligation to document what happened as it put lives in danger. The following are the most important items that clearly demonstrate Jesse's incompetence, lack of product knowledge, and outright dismissal of our concerns as his customer: 1: After putting a deposit on the boat, I asked Jesse on 4-18-19 about installing a water-separating fuel filter, and he responded by saying Mercury (the manufacturer of our boat's 150-hp outboard engine) does not require using one. That seemed odd to me since they manufacture them as part of their Quicksilver accessory line. He went further to tell me that he would install one if we wanted one but doing so would require removal of the "stock" fuel filter that is on the engine because additional filtration could cause a fuel restriction. I asked him if removing the stock filter from the engine would affect our engine's warranty, and he told me it would not. Again, that didn't sound right to me, so I called Mercury Marine, and spoke with 2 different reps, both of whom told me that removal of the stock filter is not a requirement for adding an external water-separating fuel filter, and furthermore, removing any part from the engine would affect our warranty coverage. Page 4 of the warranty document clearly states that damage resulting from removal of parts would not be covered under the factory warranty. I sent Jesse an email instructing him to leave the engine intact. 2: Upon taking delivery of the boat, it became clear that the pre-delivery inspection / dealer prep, for which we paid Causeway $1,000.00, was not completed. As a result, we had to bring the boat back to Jesse to have several items corrected. At the time, the indication that he failed to complete the dealer prep was the canvas boat covers were still neatly folded and sealed in their plastic bags as they came from the factory, yet part of his dealer prep was to inspect all canvas items. In addition, one of the supports for the Bimini top was rusty, and that had to be replaced. Again, that is something he should have caught and corrected before turning the boat over to us. 3: We paid extra to upgrade to an aluminum trailer, expecting that Jesse would adjust it so the boat would fit properly, be easy to load, and would transport the boat safely. After many unsuccessful attempts to load the boat, it was obvious he did not make any adjustments. At this point we were so frustrated with him that we paid another facility to correct the problem. 4: The most serious mishaps of all were two items that were discovered at the end of the 2019 boating season, when we brought the boat to another facility for winterization. We were advised that the water-separating fuel filter that Jesse installed, in the compartment in which he installed it, created a fire and explosion hazard. It turns out he sold us a filter designed only for vented or above-deck application, but he installed it in a non-vented compartment that is clearly marked with a label that warns against storing flammable liquids inside. The second item was the steering mechanism, which was not properly connected to the outboard engine. One of the nuts was only attached by one-half of a thread. Again, we had to pay another facility to correct these mistakes. He finally reimbursed us for the labor charge we incurred to have the steering issue corrected (there was no charge for the fuel filter as it had to be changed anyway for winterization), but not once did he admit any wrongdoing or apologize for putting us at risk. Had the steering mechanism become disconnected from the engine or had a fire started due to Jesse's negligence, serious injury or death could have been the result. We are now in a situation where we really need the support of both Causeway Marina and Crownline as our boat recently sustained some damage from a storm. I have tried repeatedly (27 times this week) to contact someone at Crownline, and all phone calls are immediately routed to a general customer service voicemail. I finally did receive an email response from Kevin Riem, VP / General Manager of Crownline, saying, "stop contacting us and seek other avenues for the information you require." I also received a similar email from Jesse of Causeway Marina, essentially telling us to go away. Throughout the entire ownership process, both Crownline and Causeway Marina had opportunities to contact us and say, "I'm sorry to hear of your negative experience. We appreciate you as a customer. What can we do to make it right?" Every one of those opportunities was missed. In summary, the facts above--all backed-up with emails--clearly demonstrate a level of incompetence that put our safety at risk. This was our first time renting as our boat was not in the water this year. My family has kept our boat here in the past a few years ago and no issues there. Rental was clean with no major issues. Driver seat was broken which was annoying but not a huge deal and was definitely underpowered but hey it's a rental. Had Bluetooth radio which was a plus. A little pricey but it was Labor Day weekend and I think it was fair(also one of the cheapest in the area for the days I picked) I would rent again if our boat wasn't in the water for whatever reason. I can't say enough good things about the marina. This was our first year using a slip. They were always kind and helpful when ever our boat needed service. They also went above and beyond to help us transfer our warranty to the new owners. Can't wait for next season with the new boat to do it all again. Having been a customer of Causeway Marina for several years now I can highly recommend them for their level of professionalism, attention to detail and quality of service. The pricing is competitive with any marina in the Lakes Region. Being disabled they have been very reasonable in bringing my boat over from their location on Brandy Pond to my slip on Sebago for an inexpensive fee and the reverse in the fall. The only fault you will find is that during peak season they can be a little long in returning calls, other than that Jessie, Kelly and the rest of the staff will treat you like a valued customer. read more

Do you know how people from Maine have the reputation of not being the sharpest tool in the shed? Well Dan, the owner of the smallest rental shop on the lake is the prime example of why. Let's start with the good news for me. As I write this review we have 4 jet skis being delivered to the lake so the day will turn out just fine....but ready for this... I went in to reserve a pontoon boat for the day and of course was a last minute decision with my group of 11 people and the boats were sold out. Great, time to get in creative mode. The owner showed me a smaller bayliner that accommodates 6 people. I asked if two were available, he looked at me a little funny but said yes. After making a phone call to my group we said sure let's do it. I went back to the desk to arrange the rentals and Dan started issue (he could tell he had a little power as all boats on the marina were sold out so bored Dan went for it) and said well you need 2 people here. I said no problem, I'll do two agreements and pay, when my group arrives we can register a second person. That seemed to easy for Danny boy so he said ummm well no you need a second deposit on a different person name. Forget that literally makes no sense, I feel bad this is how he functions on a daily basis. Well you won't be on both boats so I can't let you do that he states. I have two cars insured but don't drive them at once and yet the insurance company operates just fine with such policy...idiot (I didn't say that but his employees looking who seemed normal were probably thinking that) Does he not know how insurance works? Two separate liability agreements covers the boats and anything that happens even if they both crashed and burned. Period end of story. He was making things up and at this point so you couldn't pay me to give this guy my money. I wasn't going to put the burden on one of my friends anyway, making it a federal project. I was treating them and not now going to ask one to pay. I seem like a fish out of water so he fucked with me. Although I live in NYC, I grew up in New England and we have a family house in North Conway... so Dan.....you're a moron. Don't give this guy your business, he is a shmuk. read more

We just returned the 19' Crownline 19XS bowrider we rented for the week. Our experience with the staff was quite good. We had heard there may have been a history of faux damage claims in the past, but we got none of that. The help was very nice. The boat was "experienced", but worked fine. We had no issues with it. Also, a week or two before the rental I asked if it was one of the newer models with the 150 Mercury motors. The woman said they have a mix....and when we arrived we got an older boat with the 115 HP motor. It worked fine...but if you specifically need a particular feature in your rental..I think you need to make that request very clear. If we are renting up here again I would not avoid using them. CUSTOMERS BEWARE!! Causeway Marina allowed our family boat to be DEMOLISHED! As if that's not bad enough, they also now REFUSE to return money that was prepaid for inside storage that obviously is no longer inside or needed. During the off-season winter of 2018 / 2019, Causeway Marina stored our boat inside their storage location on Portland Road in Bridgton, Maine and now the boat and the storage building are DEMOLISHED! Apparently they don't know how to keep snow and ice off the roof of their inside storage facility and in mid-March 2019 it collapsed on over 70 boats, one of them ours. I'm told about 90% of the boats were destroyed. But adding insult to injury, Causeway Marina REFUSES to refund money we paid back in August 2018 for inside storage that was SUPPOSED to last until the middle of June 2019. In my experience, Causeway Marina has never been very customer oriented, and obviously others feel the same (see other comments here about Dan, the owner), but this is by far the worst I've experienced. We will not have time to purchase another boat for the 2019 summer season. That's rough for a family. I don't know exactly how the owners of the other demolished boats have been affected or if Causeway Marina has refused to refund their prepaid money as well. Causeway Marina states they are trying to decide if they will make a payment to everyone, but they keep delaying and they've now taken over 3 months to make a simple decision. The building collapsed in mid-March 2019. If they treat longtime customers like this, how bad would they treat short-term or new customers? Our family will never use them again. read more

We have rented 3 times this summer. Twice here and one at another place. The customer service here is non-existence. They just care of getting you out of the way. The speakers on the boat for music were bad and we could not use them. We paid a deposit, in our travels we lost a life jacket and a buoy. Instead of using the 400$ deposit we paid to replacement they charged us again for the two items. So we had to pay 400 for the boat, 400 for deposit, and another 60$ for the items which the deposit was for. They were not nice before we even had issues. Do not recommend them at all. The other one we rented from there was always someone close to help dock and with a smile. Not here at the causeway. I cannot recommend them at all. read more

Called the week before to inquire about rain policy. Asked to change the rental to another day, 7 days prior to use. Was told "there would be plenty of boats" and come any day. Showed up and lectured about verbal contracts then told there was no boat. Was then told there would be a boat for us 2 days later. Showed up 2 days later and the owner told me with a smirk that 'they were all out, too bad.' Would suggest going elsewhere. Wanted to rent a small fishing boat. Online booking and waivers went fine. Next day, they called me to inform me that I couldn't have it for the days I had booked (and already paid for). Wanted to give me rental at the end of the day before and pick up a day early, but without crediting any money even though it would be 5 days and not 6. After multiple days of not getting calls returned from the owner, she finally offered me 1/2 day credit because "they weren't making any money on it anyways". People interested in renting a boat on Long Lake/Brandy Pond should avoid Causeway Marina on account of the company's discourteous management team. I have been renting power boats on Long Lake for 10+ years, and recently had an unpleasant experience with the marina's owner after complaining to a staff member about the cleanliness of a rental boat. There is no excuse for confrontational language and behavior, regardless of the validity of a customer's complaint, and I consequently regret employing the services of this company. I rented a pontoon boat from Causeway Marina in August of 2013 and strongly recommend that prospective renters steer clear of this establishment. When my family and I arrived the dock to pick up our boat, we noticed that the deck and seat cushions were all very dirty. I asked the employee responsible for setting us up with the boat to please clean it, and he suggested I speak to the manager. The manager/(owner?) was certainly no help, explaining in a very rude tone that "there are 10 other people who want to rent [my] boat" and that I could "take it or leave it". A month of so after my negative experience at Causeway Marina I received a letter from them apologizing for my negative experience and offering a voucher for a free rental. I'm updating my review to middle of the road based on their response to my negative experience but still have two problems: 1) I complained in person and on the phone at the Marina at the time of rental and was only listened to when my negative review was seen online. This is not good customer service. 2) The boat I rented was in very poor shape for the money and the lack of fast engine cut-offs on a ski-boat created a dangerous environment for anyone in the water. Bottom line, if you must rent at Causeway Marina instead of the other local Marinas, make sure you insist on a newer model boat and ensure the engine and all onboard equipment is in good working order and you are okay with weather cancellation terms that are up for interpretation and favor the marina. read more

Horrible experience. We booked with them for a day a month in advance. When we got there (10:00ish) it was raining and 69 degrees. We had four young children with us. We were the only rental that day and literally the only boat on the lake. Unfortunately, we either had to suck it up or loose $550 per their public policy. We decided to go ahead and continue our day because we had a tube and figured the kids would have enough fun to take their mind off the rain. We got the kids on the tube and went for the first run. Only to find the ski pole was missing screws and the screws that were there were loose. I could jiggle the pole an inch in everything direction. Extremely unsafe. At that point the trip was over. We got the kids back to the dock and told the gentleman about the rain and the the ski post. His reaction to the rain and the children was, "I figured that". His reaction to the dangerously defective equipment was, "oh, we knew about that". Really????? And still let a family of 6 with 4 small children take it out for the purpose of tubing!!???? We were out 1.25 hours and probably used 1/4 tank of gas. I didn't complain or ask for any breaks, we just wanted out of there. I don't think I should have had to ask. It should have been offered. I gave two stars ONLY because the boss was very nice and OFFERED a military discount. Will see if they follow through with it. Do NOT book with them too far in advance. If the day turns to crap, you are out big bucks. And if the safety of your children is important....... Go somewhere else. read more

Great place, great boats and very accommodating. Very helpful staff. We rented a boat and could not use it on the day we rented and the owner was very happy to allow us to change to the next week. We had an issue with the boat we rented and they suggested we take out another boat, which was great. When we came back they insisted on paying for the gas due to the issue and discounted the rental. We had a great time and at a great price. Owner was very concerned for our satisfaction and apologized himself although not their fault at all. I wish I read the first review on this business before attempting to use their services. Reserved a pontoon boat months ago for a two day rental while there on vacation. We visited the place the day we arrived to inquire about the rain policy because rain was in the forecast for the days we had the rental. While trying to discuss with what seemed to be a willing associate, we then heard the owner sitting on his favorite seat and telling her to tell us "have them read the cancellation policy" in a demeaning tone. We were standing right there and he talked around us like we weren't there. Anyway, we were told that if it's raining at exactly 8:30 in the morning you can call and cancel for no charge. Ok, fair enough. Morning came and it was pouring so we called. The associate said you can change your rental to the next two days. We informed her that we had plans for that other day so we would only be able to use it for our non-cancelled day. She said I'll have to call you back. She called back 10 minutes later and said your reservation was cancelled for both days with no penalty. We asked why wouldn't we be able to use the second day that we already had scheduled and she said you'll have to be a walk-in on that day. So we booked a two day pontoon rental, got rained out on day one and now can't use the boat for day two? Makes no sense. we didn't argue too much because quite frankly I don't want to give them our business now. I feel like she had to call us back because the owner was mad that we didn't want to extend the reservation for a different two day stretch. Remember this is what they offered us at the beginning but then called back and said it's cancelled. Go elsewhere! $20 less here or there isn't worth the aggravation at this place. My girlfriend and I recently rented a boat from Causeway Marina, and buyers beware!!! Before our visit, we had inquired on times and rates which was helpful. Upon arrival, the two girls working were too busy to greet us for about 15 minutes. We filled out the paperwork, and began loading our supplies on the boat. When we had finished, some game wardens at the causeway dock informed us the boat we were renting had an expired registration. Causeway had no idea, and without the warden spotting this we would have been ticketed on the lake. This hassle took around 45 minuets, and they didn't add that to our rental time until we asked. (For a 4 hour rental, 45 minuets is a long time). Upon returning to the dock, we filled out the paperwork and were told the $300 security deposit hold was returned to our account. Two days later, we realize the account is overdrawn and the money not returned. Upon calling the marina, they said they put it back in already. We called our bank and they stated that the marina still had a 5 day authorization charge on the card. upon calling the marina back, they denied this and stated it was the banks fault. Eventually after getting them to admit their blame, they said they would fax a form to the bank to get the hold removed. The marina never sent the fax, so the bank ended up reversing the charges. I highly recommend renting elsewhere. read more

Horrible customer service!!!! We were going to be in the area on vacation and called well in advance to reserve a pontoon boat for our group for 3 days. This marina was recommended to us by someone in the area so I was told to speak to a specific person & she would help me out. When I called she was helpful & while both looking at calendars decide mid week would be best as they are not as busy (tues. Wed thurs) when the time came and lunches/coolers are packed we went to pick up the boat and the women I had spoken to had booked us for August instead of July!!! (Weekend days too mind you) We got a "sorry tough luck attitude" when I called they said they only do online reservation. When I said who I had spoken to by name they said that they don't take phone reservations & basically called me a liar. When I asked to speak to a manager they said he wasn't in & they had no idea when he would be. We ended up going to another marina up the road & got a better pontoon for a cheaper price. What an awful customer service!!! NEVER RENT A BOAT THERE! I called several times earlier in the day and spoke to a woman to rent a boat for the afternoon. We were informed that they have 2 boats left. We were on our way and she wouldn't take reservation over the phone even with credit card! It was busy time of the Memorial Holiday weekend and they had only 2 boats left. We were driving through traffic for 3 hours to get there. Marina closes at 4:30 pm!! We wanted to rent a boat for 2 hours. I spoke to the attendant several times and informed her we are coming and want to rent a boat. On my 2nd or 3rd call I was told that she has only 1 boat left. We supposed to be there around 2 pm but arrived at 2:18 pm, all happy to go on the lake, 2 adults and 3 kids. When we came in the store she informed us at that moment and then (NOT EARLIER) THAT THEY DO NOT PUT BOATS IN THE WATER AFTER 2 PM!!!!!!! If we were only informed about that rule earlier we would have changed our planes and turned elsewhere. So we came all this way for nothing. All other places were all booked by then. When I wanted to speak to supervisor/owner, she informed me that she didn't even consider it and told me right away that he is busy and I am stuck with her. I hope an owner will think twice about who to hire to speak with the customers and represent his place! Talking about NOT HELPFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE! Luckily there are several other marinas next door with very friendly service from which we have rented boats before. So, If you are in Naples, ME area, a very nice place to relax , go fishing or enjoying the nature, PLEASE JUST STAY AWAY FROM place called Causeway Marina. They just might spoil your day. read more

Do not waste your time with these people! They are so RUDE and manipulative! We rented a small boat for my fiances birthday, totally had a great day! When we arrived back at the marina, they MADE us pull up on the opposite side of the dock from which we left from. I had inspected the boat before we left (except for the far side that was literally in the water) and everything was fine...when we arrived the male owner of this company told us that we had crashed into something and that on the front left side there was damage. We did not hit anything...this man was attempting to scam us. He spoke to me like I was some uneducated "POS" and refused to give me my deposit back. I threatened to take legal action, and he called me the next day apologizing and offered me a full deposit refund. What a joke. The worst part....while we were heading back in to the marina...I overheard him saying the same thing to a group of people who had pulled in before us...they happened to be visitors (Not American) and they spoke very little English. He totally took advantage of these people and then he tried to do the same to us. What a terrible excuse for a man. Save your time, money, and aggravation and rent from somewhere else! read more

The worst customer service I have ever experienced. The receptionist was unable to answer any of my questions when I called to confirm the available boat launches for the delivery of my rental and if I needed to book a time to pick up my rental. Then after I received the boat and called to ask about the non functional lights, speedometer, and live well; causeway marina offered no help or discount to my rental. The big finally was when I returned my boat on time and had to wait for the boat hauler to arrive at the boat launch. Upon my arrival to causeway marina I was greeted with something to the affect of "oh your the one who held up the rest of our deliveries for the day because your delivery point was too far from the marina." Which definitely came out of left field because it was not an issue when the boat was originally delivered. I was never asked how the week was or if I enjoyed the boat. The boat itself was an older boat with mildew stained carpets and cracking vinyl seats. If I had to do it all over again I would have paid a little more to rent from a respectable company with a knowledgeable and friendly staff. read more
