My family really liked the atmosphere. It has that small country town feel that's just comfortable and welcoming. All the servers we interacted with were super friendly and made us feel right at home. The coconut cream pie was an absolute stand out! It tasted like a true homemade dessert: creamy, not overly sweet, and topped with a nice meringue. I'm honestly not even a big pie person, so that says a lot. The chocolate pie was also really good. For the main food, I had the taco salad. I liked the crispy bowl, but the meat tasted more like a plain hamburger. I think it would've tasted better if they had added something like a chili soup or something for the salad dressing. We also tried the burger and the country fried steak. Both were good, just not particularly outstanding. Overall, the food was solid, but the coconut cream pie is definitely the star of the show and what I'd come back for. read more

First visit after hearing much talk. First of all, if you're expecting something fancy, artisanal, etc go on and git. This is a wooden building in a tiny town right off a small country highway, it's got a small parking lot and there's a herd of stray cats by the trash bins. As soon as you roll up you get a good idea what you're in for, and yet you will be pleasantly surprised even so. This is good country cooking the way your mamaw did it. The service is on point, everyone calling you hon and darling and checking in on you frequently to refill your tea or see if you need anything. The specials and sides are written on a board each day. Friday is all you can eat catfish. We got the famous chicken fried steak - thick crisp batter, tender meat, good seasoning in the white gravy. The salad was basic iceberg lettuce, no frills. The sides were a little unseasoned - the mashed potatoes seemed premade or instant, and the corn was straight niblets with no seasoning or butter taste to them. However, for $15.99 you get a big entree, three sides and a chunk of garlic bread. They also had a case of pies with sky-high meringue and crisp crust. My only constructive feedback would be to give some love to the sides - if you amped them up a little they would take the place to a five-star easily. But this is the place you take your country papaw for breakfast. We saw several families there having a feast, and my date and I both had a great experience. We'll be back to try something else soon and enjoy the wonderful hospitality. read more

If you live in Blue Ridge, you know the Cattleman's. It was started by cooks from Blue Ridge High School over 40 years ago. The chicken fried steak was superb. The breakfast used to have real ham thick sliced. Unfortunately Joyce retired and sold out. The chicken fried steak isn't the version that took the Dallas News prize. The breakfast ham is formed and thin sliced. Prices are about on par with other local eateries. It is OK, but not our first choice like it used to be. Other Restaurants come and go in Blue Ridge. The Cattleman's will be there forever. If you have a hankering for Chicken Fried steak, give it a try. You will rub elbows with real cowboys and farmers. read more
