This is the weirdest place I've ever walked into. Seemed like if you weren't dressed like a hill billy buck you couldn't get served.

Ordered a brisket sandwich and sweet potato fries. The fries were inedible as they were overcooked. Had sugar on them too. Sent them back. The brisket sandwich. Why do some restaurants serve meat on a hamburger bun and then squash the livin' daylights out of the sandwich so there is not one single bit of fluff in the bun? I don't know either. They should put a disclaimer on the menu so we can have the option to say don't. Bun top was slathered in butter(?). Not sure why. It could not possibly absorb it as it was squashed too flat. On the up side, the brisket was good and the serving size generous. read more

Happy Easter, indeed!!! My husband and Mother-in-Law were on our way back home from Lake Travis to Abilene. When we left the lake, it was 2pm and only had hotel breakfast at 9am. Driving on Easter Sunday, 2022...we kept driving through Burnet, Llano and then had a long drive but nothing in those towns before Brady were open. While we had hoped and prayed that our FAVORITE BBQ place was open, as we had raved several times before to my Mother-in-Law about Cattleman's....sure enough at 4:42pm, we arrived to Brady and crossed our fingers and the Mecca of Mesquite smoking' was in the air!! It filled our senses as we breathed in the aroma of good things being served hot off the BBQ pit. Smiling with an upbeat in my step, we grabbed a table inside....not busy, but was satisfied that we got the chance this great day to get three Cattleman Prime Steaks, sweet teas and our belly's full with leftovers to take home. Highly recommend over the other competition in the area. Trust me....it's worth it!!! read more

Wow, it's a holiday Labor Day Monday and Cattleman's BBQ had many cars in the parking lot. We were passing through Brady and thought we'd found a good spot to eat with the family. What a HUGE mistake! The only edible item was the stuffed brisket potato. The burger smelled funky, the jalapeno bread on the turkey sandwich was stale, the mac and cheese was really bad and the chicken fried chicken was under-done. I'm trying to find something nice to say, but the management needs to seriously review the recipes and try another approach. I'm going to have to say we won't be stopping in again. read more

We stopped in twice going to South Texas, once last week and again today on the return. We wanted brisket, and each time they were out. I'm 57 years old, and I've never heard of a barbecue restaurant in Texas running out of brisket, especially twice in one week. My wife and have been to Cattleman's before and enjoyed the food and the service. Not today (8-21-22). My wife ordered ribs, should been the rib plate, be she ordered a half of rack. I wish that would been explained about the charges. Her ribs were tough and not as good as they have been. We took the extra ribs to go, but ended up throwing them away. And I ordered a baked potato. It was not done cooking when served and crunchy. I complained about the both items and nothing was done. plus a $53 bill. Never going back again. read more

One of the places I go regularly, the last time I was there we were served by the owner and it was great! The time before that I asked for a cheese burger medium and I was asked to sign the order slip to release them of liability for eating a medium burger which I found weird and when I go the burger it was well done anyways. Fine sausage and slaw. Complimentary beans, bread, sauce, and fixings is a welcome gesture. The guy on the pit was nice enough. The vibe inside was not exactly friendly. There's a real big sign inside that says "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone." I understand that's their right but it's super off putting that it's the first thing you see. read more

This is one of very few restaurants open on a Monday evening in Brady. It's set up in what seems to be a central Texas style of "pick your meat from the meat piles, then go pick your sides from the sides counter." Both the meat piles and the sides were pretty a-ok. read more

I have had many Chicken Fried steaks in Texas. I must say Cattleman's served me one of the very best ones I have ever had. It was fresh and so tender. The salad was crisp , as well as homemade ranch Dressing. This will be one of my regular places to eat from now on. read more

Seems under-staffed. took the one waitress on the floor a while to get over for order, plus it's not clear how this place works. Order at cash register? Sit down for menu & waitress? To go orders were being processed one at a time, so I had to wait a while. wanted to get cabrito as a meat plate, waitress said I couldn't do that. I don't understand why, just charge me for what it costs to put that together, I had no problem with price, but that waitress sure didn't want me to get that cabrito on a plate. Best bbq in Brady. They have good affordable dishes. I had the brisket and pork ribs both times I visited this place. Both of the meats were tender and moist. They have self serve beans and all of the fixings. Many other places would charge for these items. read more

Went on a Monday (several other places were closed) for lunch while traveling. Both my husband and I had the one meat lunch that comes with one side and drink (plus beans) for $9.99. Received a reasonable amount of meat from the BBQ pit. He had sausage and I had turkey with the butter sauce - very tasty and moist. Mac and cheese side was very good. Beans were good too. I agree with another reviewer that it isn't obvious what you are supposed to do once you get your meat from the pit but we figured it out pretty quickly. Food quality and prices are better than the previous owners. We'll be back. read more

I visited this place a while back before new management. I must say I liked the old setup. I ended up here after going to bbq joint down the street (about 2pm) and they were out of ribs. I walked into Cattlemans and was lost at what to do. A few chairs and place for cutting food. Finally girl asked if to go. I acknowledged and placed my order for special. $14.50 ribs, sausage combo. I got 2 good meat ribs and 1 almost nothing meat rib and a hot dog sized piece of sausage. I got cold slaw as side also comes with beans. Didn't like slaw. Looked in bag, no beans. Went back in, seems you have to prepare your own beans. Who knew? Saw the beans but didn't get any at time getting pickles and onions. BBQ sauce is in crock pot next to beans. Grab some, waitress won't. Flavor of meat good but smallest ribs I ever seen and I eat bbq across country during my travels. Oh and just a note waitress had placed a rib order for herself just moments before I placed mine. Maybe she got the good ones as her order and mine were final ribs on this Friday. Guess they like other place had on smoker for later in evening will try other place down road next time traveling through. read more

I would leave zero stars if I could, but it made me choose at least one. This was quite possibly the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. I ordered a ribeye medium rare and it came out extremely well done. It was dry, tough, and barely warm. My salad came out probably 10 minutes after my steak. My buddy ordered brisket. It came out cold and had no smoke ring at all. Looked like a roast that had been cooked in an oven. When my son went to order they were out of grilled chicken, Mac and cheese, French fries, and several other items. If the lousy food wasn't bad enough, one of the cooks and a waitress walked out mid shift. As long as I don't get sick, I'll just chalk it up as a lesson learned and never go back. read more

I would think folks from Brady Texas would know barbecue, after all, we are the barbecue capital of the world. Went to Cattleman's last night and man was it a disgrace to barbecue. The brisket had zero smoke ring and zero flavor, in other words, baked in the oven first. I also had slices of sirloin. The meat was cold and it was tougher than shoe leather. I'll give a thumbs up to the free beans but as far as the barbecue goes, well, it's a disgrace to us fellow Texans. I give Cattleman's zero stars. read more

This restaurant was the worst BBQ experience I've ever had. Brisket was not smoked (no smoke ring and uniform color throughout), but obviously baked in an oven then thrown on a pit for show. The cole slaw my wife ordered was spoiled and smelled rancid. The complimentary beans were barely above room temperature. read more

Brisket was waaay over cooked and not properly trimmed, beans had so much Black pepper, there was no other flavor to taste, baked potato was burnt and dry, twice baked potatoes were saturated with grease and some kind of rancid unidentifiable stuff. I stopped in as I traveled through town on vacation. It was a delightful experience from the greeting I received outside at the grill through the line inside. This restaurant has recently reopened. It used to be Fat Boys BBQ. Same basic concept-- pick your meat from the pit and pick sides inside. Ranch beans come with every meal and they were very tasty. Our party of 4 tried ribs, brisket and sausage. All very tasty. There was a choice of sweet, vinegar or 50/50 barbecue sauces. The 50/50 was outstanding. read more
