Went to this amazing Gem for my Birthday again. I have been visiting here for 29 years. I probably go here a minimum of 4 times a year. No a high steak eater out. But when I do I prefer to eat it here. They serve quality meat at a good price and they cook them consistently. Plus their potato selections are great. Loaded bake potato or loaded buckskins are great. Some people say that the decor is dated but I think that adds to it. The service is great. Don't judge the book by its cover! I have been hearing about this legendary steak house for years and we finally decided to give it a try. It doesn't look good from the outside and it does smell like smoke from the 70s and 80s. So let me preface, don't go expecting Ruth's Chris, but if you go thinking old school family steak house this is your place. They have a full bar, traditional with the long island ice tea being the only drink on the menu. Let me just say if you like Jack and Coke you will be really happy. The wine list is Merlot, Cab Chard ETC... The wine Is $5 per glass and 19 for the caraff. The glasses are filled to the top. The menu has all the items you find on a steak house. We skipped the apps thankfully and went straight to the entree. I had the Cowboy Porterhouse and my wife had the strip steak. The entrees come with applesauce and 2 sides. I choose the fries and mushrooms and my had mushrooms and buckskins. My steak was huge and cooked well. It has a charred taste and it was seasoned well. The fries were crinkle cut which I don't normally prefer but these were great. The buckskins were strips of baked potatos that are fried to perfection and were pretty awesome. The mushrooms were as expected . The desserts are all homemade and we choose the Pineapple upside cake with ice cream. It was served warm and really good. The service was fine and food paced nice. They for sure have regular and they were pretty crowded. Overall the food is pretty good, drinks are stiff, the atmosphere is comfortable and just go with proper expectations and you will love it. I think I would give this place 4 stars if it didn't smell like smoke. And no, there is no smoking here but unfortunately it's something probably stuck in the walls and floor and would need a complete remodel to get it out. Ugh. It was hard to get past. In addition to that.... the bathrooms are very ... what's the word? Interesting. I don't know how to explain it but they are weird. Definitely not a convenient area to take your kids with you. The menu is typical of a steak place. And honestly we weren't disappointed with the food itself. I actually got a really well cooked steak and the sides were good too. And you can't beat the price. I agree that the silverware is a bit dull and made cutting the steak difficult but otherwise I didn't have any issues with the food. I did, however, have some pretty rough service there. One waitress actually came over and apologized because our waitress was brand new and it sounded like they were short staffed. I get that but it definitely doesn't help when you have two kids with you and are approaching bedtime. I think you can start investing in a nice remodel of this location without taking away it's charm but also creating a more inviting environment to a wide array of customers. read more

I give more weight to recent reviews than I do overall score, but that does matter. I also read recent reviews to see why people rated how they did. This sounded like my kind of place. Not a chain, not trendy, and seriously good food. It did not disappoint! If you're looking for trendy, updated decor, keep looking. If you're looking for a neighborhood spot, that's been here for years, for good reason, give this place a try. We sat at the bar and had the jalapeño poppers to start. They were good, nothing remarkable, but the horseradish dipping sauce was a nice touch. We decided to split the Porterhouse, and ended up with leftovers. The sides we chose were sautéed mushrooms and green beans, and we'll be having them again next time. Can't say enough good things about the food or service. After driving by this place constantly for over a year, I realized that it actually IS open for business! It seemed like each time I drove by, there was no one there and the business was closed. Then I actually read the main sign out front and noticed it said "open at 5pm everyday." It was then that I started to pay more attention while driving by and noticed that the parking was in the back and I noticed now that the parking lot was always packed! Then add the tons of solid reviews on Yelp, is when I realized this might be one of those hidden gems. Well, how right I was! I decided to give it shot, after my lady was in the mood for some steaks. When you arrive, there is ample parking in the back and strangely the entrance is also in the back. When you enter, you immediately get transported to the 70's or into the wild wild west era, depending on your mood I suppose. So yes, the place is extremely dated but that's also what gives it its charm. We were immediately greeted and seated. We then noticed how large this place is and even has a full bar in the middle. Our waitress was very polite and attentive. She constantly came over to make sure everything was ok. We ordered a carafe of wine for $9 which was larger than expected. For our entrees we got the Petite strip steak, but don't let the "petite" fool you, it was definitely sufficient. For the sides we got salad, baked potato, and broccoli. The salad was a simple iceberg salad but I love cold crispy salad. I also liked their house dressing. It was tasty but I really enjoyed the French dressing. It was that darker sweeter kind that is hard to find. The steaks were cooked to perfection and did not lack flavor. I would say the broccoli was steamed a bit more than I like. The meals come with warm dark brown bread and butter and a small side of applesauce which were both good. Then to top off the wonderful meal, the check was lower than expected! What can I say, I love this old place!! It's like stepping into a time warp with the lanterns hanging from the ceiling & wagon wheels. It nothing fancy, it's a hidden gem with excellent food. We've been there many times & every time I get the 32oz Cowboy steak & split it (there's no way you're finishing it! lol) we also get the loaded Buckskins which is cheesy gooey heaven!! It's fried potato skins covered in cheese, bacon, scallions & they give you sour cream on the side. The staff is always nice. Seems like the same ladies for years so they must take good care of their staff & obviously like working there. It's one of our favorite steakhouses to eat at. I think we might take our family that's coming into town this weekend for the holidays for dinner so they can experience it. read more

I came here last night with my 80+ year old parents after flying into the Orlando Sanford Airport. We were all tired and really needed a little break before embarking on the long ride home. I love this place and will hope to come every time I travel through the area. The decor...dated but authentic cattleman. I liked it. Reminded me of my grandfather who was a rancher. He'd be about 110 yo if he was still with us. Ranching tools, horseshoes, wagon wheels and whatnot. Wood paneling from the 60's. Heavy wooden booths. Please don't come here if old decor makes you judgy. ;-) Maybe they could do better with the bathrooms but...everything else made up for it. The service...I really loved our waitress. She couldn't have made us feel more welcome. Service was as good as I've had anywhere, and better than many. The food...the soup was scratch and EXCELLENT! We had fried mushrooms, loaded baked potato, bread, applesauce. Beer, wine and mixed drinks. A++ Everyone was really happy with the food. Just...yum. Free parking. Lots of locals. Not too loud. Clean. Again...don't come here if you are looking for fine dining. It's cozy and the waitress was very friendly and always checked up on us. They do have a kid's menu. My little one got fried shrimp and fries. Talk about walking into the 80's with this place! It was so warm and inviting though! The decor was typical 80's vibe, there were several really cool light fixtures that I would love to have! There was a really cool bar, reminded me of my grandfathers bar, would love to go back and sit there for some old school whiskey drinks! Sat down, a super sweet waitress came over and took our drink orders. We ordered our food. My husband and son ordered the Ribeye. I ordered shrimp skewers and my sis in law ordered the petite steak and we shared! The entree comes with salad, and a side. I got the baked potato which was great. I got the house dressing that was so delicious! Creamy peppercorn, blue cheese fabulousness!!! We actually got the waitress to give us one to take home! The food was excellent and I'm surprised that I've never been here in all the years I've lived here. My husband remembers going here as a kid. I've lived a mile away from this place for a year and I never went inside until recently. From the outside it looks like a strip club - there's literally no windows! (ok, well there's one window next to the door). It's also not in the greatest neighborhood in town, or at least not in the kind of neighborhood you'd associate with having restaurants. I'm surprised city ordinances even allow this place to be here (was probably grandfathered in?). Anyhow, my friend and I decided to eat dinner here on a random Tuesday night. LOTS of seating in here. I can't imagine this place is ever more than half full. It was not very busy, but that's not surprising. The first thing I notice is that this place has a very uh.. rural/blue collar vibe to it. It's not faux country, it's legit country. This could be the set for a Jeff Foxworthy movie or something. Not that I'm saying it's a nasty dive, just that it's not nearly as fancy as they want it to be. Even the plates and silverware look like they were picked up at a flea market or came from someone's house. I literally have better flatware in my apartment. The utilensiles were very uncomfortable and my steak knife was dull - it was essentially a butter knife with a wooden handle. Anyway, the menu looks like a small town diner menu: small and laminated with just plain text and no photos. They have a 6lb steak challenge that reminds me of that John Candy movie "The Great Outdoors". Prices were comparable to Outback, which isn't bad, but seems a tad high. I ordered the surf-n-turf which is a petite steak with shrimp. My friend just got the petite steak. When it arrived I noticed that her steak was almost twice the size of mine. WTF? I ordered mine medium and it was indeed medium - which is difficult to do when the cut is so thin. Both of our steaks were clearly slathered in a salt and butter glaze. I will say the steak was quite tasty, though. I didn't even need any steak sauce (or "seasoning" as the waitress called it). All steaks come with two sides so I got a salad and "buck skins". The salad was pretty lame - just romaine or iceberg lettuce with a couple cherry tomatoes, a slice of green pepper and some red onions and a whole bunch of croutons. Ranch dressing was nice. The potato skins were insanely large for a "side." This was literally the size of an appetizer! The cook must've put 2lbs of cheese on it. When it came out, the cheese had coagulated to the plate and it wasn't even steaming, but when I took a piece of the potato it was still very hot under all that cheese. I only ate half of it. That's just way too much cheese! In fact, it's way too much food for a "side." (although I appreciate a good value). The shrimp was nice, but the buttery dip was salty as hell. My friend just got broccoli and sauteed mushrooms with her steak. They were both good (in retrospect, that's what I should've got). Service was okay. The servers don't wear uniforms, or even aprons for that matter. Our waitress was perfectly pleasant, but she kept making jokes that we didn't get. Like when my friend asked if she could get a to-go box the waitress joked that they're a clean plate house... just kidding. Umm, okay. What's really disappointing about this place is that the beer menu is abysmal - just all macro fizzy yellow beer (the fact the beers were only $3.50 each is quite a bargain these days!). Absolutely nothing craft at all (except maybe Yuengling). The waitress brought the bottles to the table along with PLASTIC mugs (what am I - a kid?). I didn't even see if they had any wine on the menu, but I can't imagine it'd be anything other than Franzia or something that comes in a box. Between the two of us we had three beers, two steaks, some shrimp, a salad, potato skins, and veggies and the total after tax was about $55. Not bad I guess So I wouldn't say this place is bad, but it's got so much potential to be so much more. I hate to say it, but this is what rednecks consider fancy. And if that's what they're going for then mission accomplished. And if you understand that going in you won't be disappointed. Like I said, the food was good and the service was decent. As soon as I walked in the door, I stepped back in time. Yes, it's very much in need of an update as far as decor. But I heard a large group laughing and having a great time, several people chatting it up at the bar and a few other tables had diners. The atmosphere was upbeat and everyone seemed relaxed and satisfied. Our waitress was kind and gave us the right amount of attention. I had the filet and my husband had the cowgirl. I also added sautéed onions, and I'm pretty sure I got the entire onion and it was enough to share with Hubby even though I didn't want to. Salad was fresh and chilled. The thing that bothered Hubby was that although we both ordered soft drinks, the plastic glasses were the same color but slightly different sizes. I found this quirky and charming though. The bread was good, but we were given styrofoam bread plates. Our steaks and potatoes were delicious and I like the little cup of applesauce that came with it. Interesting item, but a nice little sweet treat. The prices are more than reasonable. I'd return, as I'd rather give my money to a mom and pop restaurant than to a chain steakhouse. An overhaul of the interior would probably force a raise in prices, so if you like diners and nostalgia, this is definitely the steakhouse for you! Surprisingly great food! We had the steak, Filet Mignon (petite fillet mignon) & Loaded Potato Log (twice baked filled loaded potato), cooked perfectly the way we wanted it. Had a fully loaded Cold Crispy Salad ( fried chicken salad), which was massive and took half of it home to enjoy later. Our waitress was amazing! She was very attentive and had everything correct. We had a few questions about drinks and she had the perfect pairing for the dinner. She was friendly and personable, along with letting us know that it was a full bar restaurant. Now the restaurant itself is odd from a glance, squat building with little to no windows, main entrance in the back of said building made for some hesitation upon arriving. The floor plan is oddly designed with very odd bathrooms... but that's the only downer we noticed. The decor inside is older country style, simple tables and semi comfortable booths with old farms tools on the walls like Cracker Barrel or Fat Boys. Overlooked and underrated...I believe Cattle Ranch is one of the finest steakhouses of Central Florida without the hefty price tag. It's laid-back, rustic and very western. I don't know when they first opened but they seem to be straight out of the 80's. They have an insane 6 pound steak challenge, and there are photos from different decades of the many people who have attempted this challenge. They bring a loaf of bread and butter for starters. For the main entrée, we shared a 32 oz steak, and we ordered a house salad and buckskins (loaded potatoes) as sides. The meat was cooked at the right temperature and it's flavorful. Both sides were huge enough to be a meal by themselves. Their homemade blue cheese peppercorn dressing is a must try, and they are proud of it. Additionally, the staff is helpful and friendly. The steaks rank right up there with Morton's and the Yatchsman which to me are the area's best, you'll just have to suspend your disbelief with the decor. They're not going for an 80s theme, they just haven't changed anything since the 80s!! Outback, whatever. Charley's, Flemming's, and Ruth's Chris, they're right up there with Cattle Ranch. Long gone are Del Frisco's, Seltzers, Maison & Jardin, and Houston's...and maybe they were tonier but Cattle Ranch goes on. Honestly, cooked to order steak is getting harder and harder to find. Very good no-frills family-owned steakhouse. The building is a bit odd. It doesn't appear to have a front door; you park behind the building & walk in what looks to be the back service door. The interior is 1960's plastic and light strings and mounted game and a tacky low-hanging suspended ceiling over the bar. But who cares when you take your first bite of the perfectly prepared medium rare 32-oz Cowboy Porterhouse steak. It arrives at the table filling up a large oval platter looking to be every bit of the 32-oz it claims. The sides come in quirky vessels that resemble a mortar-and-pestle kitchen grind container. Hot fresh-baked Pumpernickel bread was included with our meal and was delightful. The service is very friendly. These attentive folks are all related and smiles abound. Everyone seems genuinely happy to see you and look to really be enjoying their work. Our dinner bill with drinks was very reasonable. The food was delicious.
