Came here around 5pm on a weekday for pre-dinner drinks while on a trip to Baltimore. The music was to start much later, but it was fun to talk to the owner of the bar! She was a sweet, humorous, and pleasant lady. The bartender was also very kind and helpful, as she helped me with 2 samples to figure out what beer would enjoy. They even gave us bumper stickers with the pub name when we departed. It was a great local experience, and I would highly recommend for locals and visitors alike! read more

I really loved this place- the band that was playing really made it a great experience. The crowd seems to be mostly middle age couples but the people are nice & it's in a nice part of town. If it seems super packed try making it to the back room; you can still hear the music but there's lots more room. read more

It's tough to get the vibe right for a dive bar. It has to be dark, but not dirty, tidy, but not thought-out. The Cats Eye ticks so many boxes for me when it comes to drinking establishments that it's a shame I can't give it more than five stars. In many ways, it captures the Irish pub vibe better than any "Flanagan's" or "O'Malley's" or "James Joyce"-titled bar could. The bartender was a character, interacting with all the regulars in a way that lets us outsiders know that this place is truly loved. Halfway through, a fantastic funk and started playing, and the whole crowd got to its feet and started dancing. Their beer selection isn't half bad, either! read more

I can't speak any higher of this place! Came here during my bachelorette party and it was amazing. The band was great, and the bartenders were even better. Once they realized it was my bachelorette party, all the bartenders came to congratulate me. Then they proceeded to buy me a beer AND shots for my whole party. 2 of them even did shots with us. Hands-down my favorite dive bar in Charm City. Awesome live jams EVERY NIGHT, good beer selection, and a back patio that's open year-round for a quick cool down after dancing. The owner is one of the nicest guys I've met around Fells, and serves at the bar a few nights a week. Love the local presence. Not only is this place a Baltimore landmark, but they consistently draw a music-loving crowd searching for more than just your average cover band. The music? Not your average top forty. Think blues, folk, rockabilly. The groups brought in to play really know how to bring down the house, and I can't recall a time I ended up here that didn't end in an epic dance party. If I had to recommend one bar to a visiting out-of-towner, Cat's Eye would be it. read more

Great beer and best bar for live music. A true Baltimore gem.

The best place to hear live music in the area. This is a local fav and you're sure to be pleased with the musical selection on any given night. Don't be surprised if there is a cover to get in. If you've read my other reviews, you know I'm cheap. I have no issues paying the cover to hear the band of the night at this location. The beer on tap is excellent even if it is a little pricey at times (don't expect a HH any time soon). Also be aware that they have no food so don't come hungry!!! I would give this place 5 stars if it wasn't for the lack of food. There is a back bar that sports a different board game on each table top which, especially after a few beers can really make for a fun night. This bar has a bit of history to it as well which makes it super special to the locals. Kenny Orye, a former owner of the bar who died in 1987 is said to haunt the pub where he died upstairs in his bed. There are supposedly other ghosts that haunt the place and the pub is a stop on the local ghost tour of Fells Point. Across from the bar is a 22foot mural of Ireland's entire history- it's pretty amazing to look at. read more

Great selection of beers on tap. Live music is blues, classic rock, rockabilly, and sometimes jazz. Small, divey feel to it but also cozy. One of my favorite bars to go to. Weekends you will usually find the drunken crowds, which can be annoying. Patrons range from locals, regulars, to tourists. When the bands are on a break people actually talk to one another and get along. Not a pretentious atmosphere. Everyone is very down to earth and the bartenders are usually very friendly. If you're looking for a swanky, upscale bar with top 40 music playing this isn't the place for you. Otherwise, this is a favorite dive bar for most with live music and an atmosphere that is hard to find. read more

This place is loads of fun, but us stif-upper-lipped northerners gotta be willing to get down, dirty, and Baltimore! It's a historic bar in historic "piraty" Fells Point. They have live music, the band was pretty good when I was there! We had great conversations with some of the staff. As my friend told me, people WILL try to hit on you (not great). But also, people seem more open and laid back in Baltimore, so there's more conversation to be had with people you don't know (great!) I'm a fan, for history, music, and fun. read more

Yes, just in case you were wondering, you do want to visit Cat's Eye. Yes you'll have a cold beer, and yes you'll stay for the live music and you will tip well. If the Baltimore bar scene is Mt. Rushmore, this pub is Teddy-freakin-Roosevelt. When you walk in you just feel cool. The crowd is a mixture of locals and regulars, with the curious and well-meaning tourists thrown in for good measure. The drinks are strong and come quickly, thanks to some of the best bartenders in the Charm City. This crew is just groovy, man. An evening out in Fells is not to be without a cold, tall pint and some sick, sick blues, groove, funk and rock at Cat's Eye. The music lineup is live, local, and deeply Baltimore. Yes Scooter, even you can put some glide in your stride and a dip in your hip with these tunes. read more

Sorry.. I want to LOVE the Cat's Eye.. but we haven't had great experiences there. Generally packed on the weekends, we have come to expect the "bumper people" atmosphere of the front room, where the band is. Drinks are small and overpriced unless you are a regular there. While we've frequented the place a number of times (due to meeting up with friends), we don't receive that courtesy. Bartender's services are usually very hasty and abrupt. We get that it's busy but rudeness isn't necessary either. The bands are usually a blast - our older friends don't seem to understand that people under 50 do know the hits they play and we enjoy them too. The part I don't get is that we pay a cover charge, and then someone routinely walks around with a tip jar for the band. Where is that cover charge going? We've approached the door looking for friends of ours to meet up with, and at 1:25am were turned away by the bouncer, indicating that they were closed. When we asked if we could just check for a friend who was to be there, we were told to "just call them". (We already had tried). We will likely stay away from here to frequent other places in the area.. sad, but there are bands in each bar.. and many are excellent, just like at Cat's Eye. read more

I disagree that this is at heart a tourist bar. The Cat's Eye's been around longer than the tourist throngs, and it's still pretty true to its roots, even if they do sell logo T-Shirts these days. Good and relatively cheap beer, good service, decent music, more than a little dive-y, it's one of the better joints to grab a brew or two in Fells Point. It's the perfect combination of kitsch and grungy watering hole. Pair this up with a few pints at the Wharf Rat or a can or five o' cheap Natty Boh at the nearby BAR over on Lancaster, and you've got an evening. read more

I've been here once. It was right before the Super Bowl (literally) and we were graced with the sounds of an amazing soul laden jazz trio. I don't know the name of the guys, but I believe they play there regularly on Sunday evenings. The old man singing had an impressive set of soulful lungs, that's for sure. Loved it! This is a cool little dive bar located on the water. Like many other popular bars in Fells Point, their biggest draw seems to be their daily live music shows. The performance space is pretty small, so it would be wise to get there a little early if you want a good view. There is a second bar in the back with much more room and where the performers can be heard but not seen They have a pretty robust tap list with a mixture of typical macro beers and popular micros. All the locals like Heavy Seas, Union, Dogfish Head, etc were present when I visited. Don't expect to find any super-obscure craft beers. But it is possible to get a good quality beer here. I am a veteran and we went into this bar to enjoy a beverage. When I entered the bartender verbally attack me because I brought a bottle of water into the bar. Mind you, we had been in at least six other establishments and no one complained. I took a drink of my water and he started yelling at me and told me that I could leave his establishment. Awesome pub with good brews on tap. I will always remember this place as where I lost my Natty Boh virginity when Jamie S. let me try a bit of his pint of Natty Boh. That is when I was truly inducted into the Balmer Yelp community. Though, I have to admit, my favorite brew that evening was the Sam Adams Cherry Ale. Booze aside, the blues band that came to play here was friggin' awesome! I loved the music and it seemed like a great venue for people to get together in. The Cat's Eye Pub is no exception, with all the woody flavour, rosy cheeked drinkers and vast collection of on tap beers, it promises a good night out for any and all. Cat's Eye, like the best Irish bars, hosts a wide variety of patrons, young/old, gay/straight, punk/yuppie and pretty much everything in between. There's music, once again a must have for any Irish pub worth its weight in Guinness, and that will span many genres and styles just like the clientele. I have yet to see a crappy band at Cat's Eye, a tribute to their booker. The Cat's Eye party is one of those events where you just might meet the most interesting person you've ever met (and I'm not talking about John Waters), and then later in the evening fall in love. Hey, it's all possible at the Cat's Eye. And if all else fails, take a trip to the Men's room and glean some of the totty poetry. Slainte indeed. read more

My boyfriend and I decided to stop by here for some drinks before dinner. The place was a little bit run down and the bathrooms were pretty small. However, everyone there from bartenders to patrons were super nice and friendly. We got there around 2pm and there was about 7-8 people already there. Around 4pm, live music started playing and the place suddenly got packed. Irish music was being played and I loved it! I didn't think I would like this genre of music but it was very enjoyable. The crowd here is mostly older and the live music is pretty unique. I definitely enjoyed my experience here! read more

It is where you see different generations mingle and dance and listen to music. I have heard r and b, country, rock, and folk. All of it is equally good and keeps my interest. On the waterfront in the heart of Fells point. $5 cover made me wonder what I was paying for inside and voila: live music. The Saturday night we went it had a group of five guys that reminded me of the Eagles. They had the crowd going with their country twist covers of 70s songs. For a group of 30 something there are (hopefully) better choices out there. We were the youngest by far since the majority were in their 40s and 50s. Terri the bartender is FANTASTIC! She has been here for 30 years, and I gotta tell ya, these young bartenders could learn a thing or thirty from her! I highly recommend coming in to have a great time, or at least coming in to meet this cool woman :) She's here Monday, Wednesday, Friday until 7pm, and occasionally on the weekends. I suppose there's a certain kind of person who ventures out to a bar on Christmas day. I don't think of myself as that kind of person, but when your sister turns 30 on Christmas you have to be willing to stretch a little. So we showed up at a dive bar to buy her a shot and have some fun. First of all, "divey" doesn't even begin to cover the condition of this tavern -- even in the near-darkness, it was clear the place hadn't been cleaned well within my lifetime. There were flags on the ceiling, stickers on the wall, and God knows what on the floor. Yikes. We ordered shots of Fireball, which were actually on the large side (served in a whiskey glass instead of a shot glass) and then moved on to microbrews, of which there were a decent handful: cherry wheat Sam Adams was actually an interesting complementary chaser. They do get points for enlisting a live band on Christmas day, but. Here was the band: a decent drummer, and a singer-guitarist who was drunk as a skunk and swore like a sailor. He was breaking strings left and right and pulling them out of his guitar like pliers. His voice actually wasn't bad, though the songs ran a little too far in the direction of country-western for my taste. The highlight of the evening was when another patron suddenly exclaimed, "HEY, I KNOW THIS SONG!" and proceeded to elbow her way onto the small platform where he was playing, grab the mike and sing, in a brassy half-shout, along with him. Boy, he loved that (it helped that she was young, attractive and equally drunk.) It was fun to watch, but as it wound down, we thought it was probably best to leave before the performance took any more sudden nosedives. Check, please? read more

NO FOOD... Don't get me wrong, I love a drink.. IF THEY CAN MAKE IT.. but it looks like a Baltimore thing.. 2 out of two bars can't , Koopers (pretty sure that's it,on thames st.) Doesn't allow vaping! DO NOT SUPPORT them.. There is no current authority over vaping. The worst long island iced tea. . Well, Just as bad as the place on 906 Wolfe st. All will get reviews. At least 1/4 sour and soda.. They're supposed to be a 'splash' Ok.. I'm all over the place here.. It should be cuz im DRUNK by now.. NOT!! For a dive bar, it's completely on point. The beer isn't expensive. Not crazy cheap, either, though. You have about four choices there, but Magner's cider is on tap, which was great. It's not exactly clean. Parking is most certainly a bitch. There's a cover charge that's somewhat... flexible, depending on who and how many you have at the door. But the bar service is quick and sassy. My favorite part had to be the writing on the bathroom walls. Someone had quoted the Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock ("I should have been a pair of ragged claws/ Scuttling across the floor of silent seas.") and yet another pointed out that the midget danced all night. Typical Fells Point divebar watering hole. At night there's usually a band of middle aged never-gonna-make-it-big white dudes playing covers of classic rock tunes, while other middle aged locals and tourists scream along and throw back the beers as if they're still teenagers and not moms with 4 kids and a mortgage payment on a ramshackle abode out in the county. To each their own. Not really my type of joint, but I could see someone having a good time here. One of the reviewers below referred to this as a "traditional Irish pub". That description gets a big fat "HUH???" in response. As an Irishman from Boston (well okay...half Irish, half Italian), I'm curious if said reviewer has ever been to an Irish pub before, because this bears no resemblance to any Irish pub I've ever been to. Great dive bar in Fells Point with good beer on tap. Our bartender, Rob, was very attentive and nice, and kept our drinks fresh, even though all the bartenders appeared to be "in the weeds" busy. Was there with my girlfriend and her cousin by recommendation fo some locals we met earlier in the day. They did not steer us wrong. The place was packed. If you get here early enough you can park right in front of the place. Didn't sample the food but the drinks were good. As much as I despise Baltimore, I would come back here. One visit this last weekend on the advice of a friend in the music business. Cat's Eye is located on the tourist strip up against the waterfront. Small, convenient, lots of parking. But the presentation venue for the musical groups is absolutely horrible -- they are cut off from the crowd by a 4' separation (this kills the musical ambiance totally). First group was really not helpful for the Charm City reputation. Just not. So we decided to leave. Bar service on the way in was okay (3 bartenders), then it went to one bartender when they needed 4... people were stacked up against those patrons at the bar with a 10 minute wait time for a beer. One customer (apparently with knowledge of the staffing issues) said, "you need to order all your drinks at one time..." YIKES! So we finally got the single bartender to acknowledge us and asked to cash out... so he brought us another round of drinks... and then said he would cash us out.... (yes...). I guess the Pittsburgh "look" made us look easy. We know a bit about bands and presentation venues. This is not a place for a return trip or a recommendation. A Baltimore "landmark?"
