Before purchasing a pair of shoes as a gift, I carefully read and understood the return policy posted at the front register. The shoes I bought were on sale, and the return policy made no mention of restrictions on exchanging sale items. After realizing I needed a size 8.5 instead of an 8, I went back to City Gear to exchange them. The store manager initially proceeded with the exchange but then informed me I would have to pay the price difference because the shoes were no longer on sale. My issue is that the return policy does not state that an exchange for a different size would result in a price adjustment if the sale had ended. If this is the store's policy, it should be clearly stated so customers are aware. I always follow store policies, but in this case, the terms were not communicated. It's unfair to require customers to pay extra simply for needing a different size when the original purchase was made under a sale price. I would recommend not purchasing any items from City Gear.

If you don't know Merrell is predominately hiking shoes, but they actually have some pretty nice apparel for hiking as well. They also have some discount racks that are significantly marked down making them an extreme value. Staff does a really good job of making sure that you know about any of the sales that are going on, and something to keep in mind, there is always a sale on the shoes. Typically something related to buy one get one x% off. The regular prices aren't that bad, and the selection is pretty good, not what you are going to necessarily find in sporting good stores that carry the brand. If you are at the outlets, this place is worth checking out if you need some hiking/outdoors gear.
