Talk about a hidden gem! We happened upon this place by accident. Wonderful atmosphere, great home cooked food. Coleslaw, hush puppies and pinto beans when you arrive to devour while waiting on meal. Good was amazing. Wish I would have gotten a picture of before but it was so good, you'll just have to stop by to try it. We didn't see any signs on Highway to tell us about it so if you're traveling through Waskom, Texas and feeling hungry, stop on by. Just off Hwy 20. It's sorta like a Cracker Barrel in the fact there is an empty gift shop to browse while you wait to be seated. They do not serve alcohol so if you want a draft beer with your Catfish, wrong place! The servers are polite and attentive. The food is good, reasonably priced, homestyle and comforting. A nice casual date restaurant with beautiful to relax on benches after your meal. Stopped by here after a long time away. I ordered the country baked catfish, which was bland and unseasoned. The baked potato was very dry, and the toast that came with the fish was soggy and unappealing. The hostesses could've been nicer, but the overall ambience of this place was great. Our waitress was also very friendly and accommodating. The restaurant was definitely understaffed, as it took quite a while for our food to get to the table. "J" got the Chicken Fried Steak with Mashed Potatoes and Gravy and he said it was good, above average. I got the Blackened Catfish with rice and Mashed Potatoes with a side of Gumbo. All I can say is I'm glad they have Mashed Potatoes and Gravy and a Salad Bar with Pinto Beans because those were the only highlights. This "Gumbo" was the worst by far I have had in my life. It is not even Gumbo but just rice with a brown sauce lacking flavor. I ate maybe 2 bites. My Blackened Catfish was very dry and looked seasoned but wasn't and had no flavor. I asked someone behind me who got the same thing and she said hers was dry too. I disguised it going down with the Mashed Potatoes and Gravy. My meal would get zero stars if that was an option. You could argue that if we came to a catfish restaurant then why did we get what we got and not the catfish like in the name! It's because we have eaten catfish here before and it is forgettable so we thought we would try something different to give the place another chance and it failed worse and I wish I had gone with the catfish again. We came in a group of 20 for my Dad's bday celebration around 5ish on a Saturday. Everyone's food took roughly an hour to come out (kinda long), but overall the food here is tasty. Do yourself a solid and order the Cajun styled fish instead of the regular and enjoy the seasoning. The regular is a bit more bland just fyi, which is good for those who can't eat seasoned food. I am vegetarian so I took fried green potwtoes and mushrooms but you could hardly feel their taste in a thick breadcrumb cover. I am was very hungry for fresh (never frozen fish). I liked their cat fish very much, I would have had less breeding and less crispy were it is difficult to get off the bones. We ate there today on our way home to Okla. The restaurant is a very nice building overlooking a lake and the waitress was very pleasant and provided good service. We ordered fish from the lunch special and I can truthfully say, "thank goodness for the salad bar and hush puppies". The fish was so bland and DRY, I was only able to choke down 1 piece and left the other 2 on my plate. We have stopped there one time before, and the fish was the same, awful. David Beard's Catfish Village is a decent stop off the highway in Waskom, but the catfish is marginal at best. They definitely spent more money on the atmosphere than the food. I have tried both the fried and the baked catfish, and both are just about average. Believe it or not, the best tasting dish there are the chicken tenders, which is sad considering the name is the catfish village. The good side of Catfish Village however is that you could easily feed 100's of your friends at once! read more

Fried fish fried to perfection. Cajun spice not worth the up charge. Food bar is one of the best reasons to eat here. All the beans, pickled green tomatoes, salad, slaw you can eat. Hush puppies vary. Sometimes they are made from scratch and fantastic other times they are gummy mass produced. Crawfish were good, but they are not served to stay hot and you have to ask multi times for butter, did ask for spice- sure it would have a big up charge. David Beards is my all time favorite catfish. This location is a large natural wood restaurant with Texas decor, a porch and terracing goldfish ponds that stream into a large pond on site. The local fav is the all you can eat fried catfish filets. It comes with fries and salad bar. Beans are on the salad bar. The all you can eat catfish is about $10.50 but you can get a the smaller lunch plate with 5 pieces of fish even at supper time if you ask. read more
