Came with a couple of friends for Restaurant Week. The atmosphere was so relaxing. The music was calming. The care from our waiter with our food and wine selection was consistent but not pushy. And the food was so good! I wasn't sure if the meal would be a lot smaller in quantity since we came for restaurant week but we had more than enough food and drinks. Will definitely look to come again in the future so I can explore more of the menu! read more

An absolutely superb dining experience. My friend and I hadn't been to Carmel for several years. Walking around the town, there were so many great-looking places to choose from. We just liked the ambience of this place, as well as the menu, so we thought we'd give it a try. We couldn't be happier that we did. Kudos to the owner and the staff. From the moment we walked in, we were treated like VIP. The staff and the owner were so welcoming, and the little extras the place offers just make you feel like a special guest. The wine, the food, and the service were wonderful. We were surprised to learn the place had only been here for two weeks. But the interesting part for us was that the last time we were in Carmel, we ate at PortaBella and were tempted to try it again. Lo and behold, same owner! This is a restauranteur who REALLY knows how to create a special atmosphere for his customers. The food, the service, and everything else was just wonderful. I really can't recommend it enough. I hope this restaurant does fantastically well ... because it deserves to do so. Next time we're in Carmel, we will be visiting Catch again. read more

Nice little spot in Carmel. I had the fish tacos which was very good. I noticed they really filled the taco up with fish and not just veggies and such. Overall everyone in my party felt the food was good except for the fried calamari which was very chewy / rubbery. read more

Went here for a late lunch, and we ordered a almond crusted halibut with the rice pilaf, and a open faced lobster sandwich with a salad. The halibut was off and sections of the fish smelled like ammonia, or bleach or something. I had gone through most of the meal but when I showed this to the waiter, he took it back and never returned. The pilaf on the side was bland. The open faced lobster salad sandwich was very bland as well, and lacked simple seasoning. It just seemed like the fish and the lobster were frozen. He was too rushed, did not give me time to take my order and was rushing to take the menu out of my hands. The food is not great. We shared the garlic break, i ordered the Seafood pasta and my husband ordered the prawn pasta. Garlic bread was too hard (is the bread fresh?), the garlic was way too strong/ too much (and i LOVE garlic) but gave me the worst after taste. We've been to Carmel multiple times and have tried a variety of restaurants. The ambiance seemed nice and they could accommodate our party of 10. The waiter (I believe his name was Aiden) was arrogant and lacked personality. Everything seemed to bother him from our kids, to asking if we could substitute scallops for clams and then proceeding to ask if he could split up our tab. Mind you this place isn't cheap and their food was garbage. I was disappointed and expected the food to match the ambiance. It was subpar. There was only one nice guy there. He seemed to be more or less in charge of drinks and clearing the table but he was the only thing going for this restaurant. We won't be returning and do NOT recommend. read more

It started off well; we received caviar and champagne on the house. Pros: great service, friendly staff. We were able to sit outside next to a heater which kept us comfortably warm. Food and drinks also arrived quickly. The smoked salmon appetizer was delicious. The not-so-great: they were out of the sea bass by the time we arrived (not their fault), so I ordered the almond crusted halibut instead. It looked delicious but lacked flavor. Came here on a Sunday around 4pm and we were seated right away as there was only one table getting ready to leave. The front of the house was great! Food. They brought out a complimentary caviar and champagne tasting. That was a nice introduction! We ordered crab cakes and the prawns for appetizers. The crab cakes were ok. The prawns were tasty but more like shrimp, definitely too small for a prawn and not worth the price. It was 4 total shrimp. We ordered a kids burger and fries and it was a hefty serving. My husband had the rosemary chicken and he said it was fine. I had the macadamia crusted halibut. It came with a cream sauce on top that had some flavor however the fish had zero seasoning and neither me nor my husband could consume it. It was that terrible. The bitterness of the spinach underneath did not help the dish at all. The server asked if I wanted a box because most of it was still on the plate and I informed him that I did not like it at all. He said ok. My husband tried the bread pudding and he said it was fine too. Service. For there to only be 2 tables, we waited a very long time for not only our food but also our server. He did not come check on us nor refill our drinks. He seemed to be rushing us and didn't add to the dining experience. Even when i said we were celebrating our anniversary, I got no response. This is being generous. We went to their sister restaurant, Portobello, two days ago and the experience was excellent. Today, we sat for a while --10 minutes-- before going back to the hostess and respectfully requesting a waiter. Despite the slow pace, our apps came before all of our cocktails -- surprising given the ratings. Just a quick word on the food. Calamari was soggy as they undercooked it -- ironically, maybe they were rushing it, but the coating never got a crust. Unfortunately, the food quality was overshadowed by the shady and misleading behavior by the server when it came time to give us the bill. He brought us the itemized receipt with a much lower amount than what he charged when he took our card. And when he returned it the itemized receipt was not there and it was just the signature form with a higher amount. No customer copy was given. We walked the streets for a good long time before deciding where to eat dinner. It was getting a bit chilly after our sunset picnic on the beach so we wanted a warm table. A lot of the restaurants were full and when we finally got a table the Mediterranean restaurant, there weren't any outside heaters. They offered us blankets but that's weird. Seeing that Catch was pretty open we went over there and were seated right away under a heat lamp and had a nice Himalayan salt candle. It was too warm and inviting that we had to stay and who doesn't love a good seafood dinner. The only weird thing is that our servers were the same as the Portabella restaurant, which is right next door. We had already eaten lunch there one of our days. I guess a few of the neighboring restaurants are connected by the same ownership. I, of course, ordered the cioppino and my guy ordered fish & chips. That was out of his norm but the waiter talked it up as a great dish. Fish was amazing but the fires could have been way better. My cioppino was alright, not a fan where there is too much fatty salmon and not enough of the good qaulity fish meat that I enjoy. However, after a nice glass of wine and then a tasty bottle of Red Schooner Malbec made by Caymus, this made for the perfect date night in Carmel. read more

Catch can be found in the Carmel Shopping & Dining Plaza just a few blocks away from the beach! When you walk in you are greeted with some pretty cool sea like decors on the ceiling which make it seem like you dining under an aquarium tunnel. Me and my party were offered complimentary champagne and a spoon on caviar, which was pretty dang fancy of an intro before we had our appetizers. We ordered the calamari appetizer, halibut fish, and crab/shrimp ravioli. Calamari was crispy and came with 2 delicious marinara and ranch like dips. I really enjoyed myself here. We went for lunch and were first there. We had a great table inside st the window. Service here was attentive but not overwhelming. We were surprised by a starter of sparkling wine and caviar. My lunch mate doesn't eat caviar so I had 2 spoons. For lunch we decided to eat off the appetizer menu. We each ordered a cup of clam chowder and then shared grilled shrimp and crab cakes. My least favorite was the grilled shrimp. It was good but not a big stand out. The crab cakes were really good and I really enjoyed the sauce that came with it. The crab cakes had great crab flavor and not overwhelmed by fillets. My favorite dish was the soup. The texture was not too thick nor thin. It tasted like clam. It had a bright taste unlike the heavy stuff you get at the wharf. They did have a bathroom problem though and didnt get it dealt with quick enough. The hostess did take a couple of us to their sister restaurant next door to use the restroom there. Hmmm.... We were a little disappointed this last time. We've eaten here before and were pleased. So we came back for another meal. Even after peak hours the place was busy and has its usual warm Mediterranean style which is very inviting. But they were strangely slow. After seating it took a good 10-15 mins before our waitress came. She said something about thinking there were going to be three of us despite the reservation being for two. Then it took forever for our starter and salads to arrive. Our waitress tried to make it up to us by offering some extras but we just wanted our food. By the time our entrees arrived we were sitting for over an hour. But more importantly, the food was below par especially for the prices. My $13 Caesar salad looked more like a side salad and was about what you'd get at a national chain restaurant... which is not a good thing. The sand dabs and the halibut were merely ok and mostly on the flavorless side. Same with my side of mashed potatoes. By the end of our meal my wife said to me "I'm done here." Same. Maybe they were short staffed. Maybe their regular chef was off for the night. Either way it will be a long time before we return. Sadly. We liked it before. read more

The best food in Carmel/Monterey. (We went to Pangaea grill and Sur at the Barnyard this weekend and they came nothing close to the experience we had at Catch). No offense. The best clam chowder in California. We used to go to SF often for clam chowder or to the Grotto in Monterey but after trying their clam Chowder- wow. Best. The customer service was fast and efficient. Food was fresh and hot. There wasn't a wait, which is so surprising. They were busy- but we were lucky to get a table. Across the street was another restaurant (Starts with a "P". We won't bash). We actually tried to go there first but they were booked out until the next day. We went to that restaurant the next day and it was not good. Overhyped. Catch, by far was best. We had the oysters, clam chowder, crab Louie salad, Surf and turf and almond crust halibut. While the entrees were cool, we really enjoyed the appetizers and salad the most. The cocktail and wine was good too. They even have a live performance and gave us complimentary champagne and caviar.
