I had a great time with Captain Steve. I actually did two whale watching trips this January hoping…read moreto see the orcas. The first time, I went with Harbor Breeze on their big boat, the second was with SoCal Whale Watching on a much smaller rigid inflatable boat. The pluses are that you covered more ground and therefore have a chance to see more animals. I think Captain Steve covered about x5 the distance on his boat in comparison to the much slower big boat. You are also down low and next to the water, which means you can see the animals up close. The main downside is that it is not as comfortable as the bigger boat and you have to remember to bundle up really warm. Don't worry about getting sea sick though. Big boats tend to roll a lot, whereas this little boat was surprisingly smooth. You have less of a chance of getting sea sick on this little boat. We had some chop and a fair swell, and it didn't affect me at all. It is not uncomfortable or bumpy, but there is no cabin or restroom like on a big boat. Captain Steve was friendly and knew his marine biology really well. He answered questions and explained things as we went. On our trip, we got to see a giant pod of common dolphins, a big fin whale, and the two gray whales. We started out due west and made it about halfway to Catalina, and then went northeast and ended up off of Palos Verde. We covered a lot of square miles. Unfortunately, no orcas, but I was very pleased with the trip.

Phenomenal experience! They gave us memories for a lifetime. We saw multiple whales (although we…read moreknow this cannot be guaranteed), and so many dolphins. They were very knowledgeable and worked hard to ensure they delivered a remarkable experience.

When I say this experience was awesome and refreshing, I truly mean it. The views during the boat ride were absolutely amazing, and for a few hours I felt completely at peace--as if all my troubles had simply vanished. The atmosphere was relaxing, the scenery was beautiful, and it gave me a chance to clear my mind and just enjoy the moment. One of the things I enjoyed most was watching families and friends have a great time together. It was uplifting to see so many people creating memories, and I even had the opportunity to meet a few genuinely kind and interesting people along the way. Thank you for providing such a memorable experience. If you're looking for a peaceful, refreshing escape with beautiful views and great energy, I highly recommend it. Five stars!

We booked a New Year's Eve dinner cruise expecting a reasonably comfortable dinner experience. That…read moreexpectation was not met. There was not enough indoor seating for all guests, and many people were forced onto an upper deck on a cold, rainy night. The upper deck was poorly covered, wet, and uncomfortable, which made it difficult to eat or enjoy the evening. The food quality was poor, items ran out multiple times, and plates and utensils were unavailable at points. Overall, the operation felt overcrowded and disorganized, and it was not an enjoyable way to spend New Year's Eve. After significant back‑and‑forth, Spirit Cruises did eventually issue a refund by check, which I appreciate. However, that does not change how disappointing the actual experience was. I would not recommend this company for a special occasion.

There are two options to get to Catalina island: ferry or flight…read more We bought a one day two way ferry ticket from Long Beach to Avalon. The weekend tickets sells out fast, please reserve at least one month ahead. I could not find any regular tickets by the time I booked our seats and had to change our plan to a Sunday with inside cabin seat. I had seasickness while seating inside and had to come out to the desk to sooth myself. The regular open air ticket costs about $88 but the inside cabin is about ~$134. The inside cabin ticket includes a free drink and a small snack ( cookies vs pretzels). There is restroom conveniently located inside. Staffs are courteous and friendly.

When I approached the counter, the employee with blonde hair was focused on texting on her phone and did not acknowledge me for an extended period of time. Even after finally greeting me, her attention still seemed to be on her phone rather than assisting me. I simply asked whether they offered a matcha drink. Instead of providing a helpful response, she told me to look at the menu and pointed out that they only served regular coffee. What was frustrating was that I had already reviewed the menu and was only asking a follow-up question for clarification. As some time servers can offer other options. Had she been paying attention, she likely would have recognized that. The issue wasn't that matcha wasn't available it was the lack of awareness, attentiveness, and basic customer service. As a regular customer, I expect to be treated with courtesy and professionalism. Unfortunately, this interaction was dismissive and unwelcoming. I hope management addresses the importance of customer engagement and professionalism, as experiences like this can leave a lasting negative impression.
