Being a homeowner I will preface by saying that my first inclination is to fix it myself. I own a 50+ year old home so inevitably something is going to break. My mind is not fertile enough to anticipate "What's Next?" You name it, anything from A to Z will eventually fail and always at the worst time possible. Think 10 below zero (wind chill) in the middle of winter. Over the years I've been "stumped many times" in terms of how to fix a problem. A segue into my next paragraph. My first instinct is to drive to Ace Hardware and consult with Cosmos. He is a very attentive listener and expects a thorough definition of the problem. He will ask many questions prior to making a recommendation. As an aside, I always take pictures on my Smart Phone as they help Cosmos to better understand the situation. That being said, Cosmos has a 100% "Problem Solved / Solution Fix" ratio with me after 20+ years. Do yourself a favor, visit the Raynham Ace Hardware for your next project. You won't be disappointed.

Asked him a few questions about fertilizer which he answered and steered me to an associate in that area. Along the way I noticed bird seed which I needed. It was on sale 2 for 1. Another associate was called over as he knew more about that. I was thrilled with the knowledgeable and personal and polite service I was receiving. The whole store vibe was incredible. I saw a circular offering 25% off before I checked out. The outside associate happened to be nearby and handled the transaction. He was very nice too. So the 25% off coupon bonus was applied to the fertilizer. With the discount and the free bag of bird seed I saved over 25 dollars and got the best retail service experience I've ever experienced! They have *everything* honestly their stock and selection is on par with the big boxers. The guy in the shop told me they have over 300,000 individual items. They are also super nice. You basically walk in and are immediately asked "how can I help you" how great is that - they bring you right to the item every time. Service couldn't be better. The only downside to this place is their hours. They close at 5pm - cant go after work and they are closed sunday - which is 50% of the week available to me for doing home repairs etc. The short of it is that this place is an awesome hardware store and I much prefer supporting them over the big chains.

He is very friendly, knowledgeable and responsive. Over the past couple of years, we have been renovating a multi-family home in Dorchester, and Mark has been especially helpful in working with our contractor on quotes, making product recommendations and setting up delivery to Boston at a very reasonable cost. When we needed to order replacement windows and sliding glass doors, Mark referred us to his colleague, Tom, who specializes in these products. Tom quickly got back to us with a quote, placed our order and set-up delivery. When one of the door handles arrived damaged from the factory, he immediately ordered a replacement from the manufacturer. Mark has helped us keep this big project on track with his prompt follow-up and great communication with our contractor. I highly recommend Chace Building Supply. Not only does it feel good to support a local business, the quality of their products and customer service can't be beat. As a bonus, a knowledgeable person answers the phone when you call, without a tedious phone tree!

I suspect this is mostly because it's easier to get a little help when I need it, and because those big box stores are just a little too big! I'm not going there to buy something really elaborate like a new kitchen, or a suite of appliances, it's usually for small stuff like paint, or dowels or something, and I really don't need all those departments. Dewhurst Lumber does not disappoint. They've got virtually everything you need when you're moving or home improving, including East Bridgewater town trash bags! I went in there today for our family's third stop in since we moved to the area, and they were helpful, quick, and inexpensive. So far we've stopped in to pick up one of those dryer hose ring thingies, once for the rental of a carpet steaming machine, and finally, for a little paint and some supplies. The only tricky part with shopping at a local lumber spot like this one is the hours! If you find yourself in need of something immediately essential- like a plunger for your toilet or something- after business hours, you'll probably be headed for Lowe's in West Bridgewater instead! Personally, I'll do my best to shop 9-5 at this locally owned, family run, small and friendly store!
