I went Castros Bakery on December 24th to buy two tres leches cakes. Even though the place was crazy packed, the customer service was amazing. I was treated with kindness and professionalism from the moment I walked in. The cakes were delicious, and my family loved and raved about them. It was a Great experience -- I highly recommend this bakery. A Special Thanks to Kaily for her amazing hospitality, professionalism and service as well to all the staff at Castros Bakery. So We Went Inside To Look, So Many Options We Settled On Trying Their Infamous Tres Leches Cakes We Got The Regular Strawberry Trea Leches & Oreo Tres Leches. Cakes and food is alright. I don't recommend due to their service being horrible. I called for a plain cake for 10 people with drops decoration on the side. They said they couldn't do that because the cake was too small. I didn't want to get any decorations on the cake or writing, just a drip cake. They said they couldn't do it so I asked for a plain yellow cake, they said alright and that it would be $65 + taxes. I was like okay let me check in with my family if that's alright since they didn't want to do what we wanted. They said call later when you're ready and I said that I was ready I just needed to check really quick. Mind you my family was infront of me and she just hung up. The workers are rude and they don't care to get orders. Overall a horrible place to order cake. read more

Wow! I'm sorry for having delayed this review, but Castro's Bakery is the bomb!! Their tres leches is the best I've ever had!! (And I love tres leches) I got a tres leches cake for my birthday last year. It was a last minute decision, they were closing, and were happy to accommodate. Great customer service! Lucky us they had one cake left and it was a gorgeous lightly frosted cake, with pink decoration. The writing on the cake was perfect. When we finally dug in, I was amazed at how clean the cake cut. I was thinking tres leches would be kind of a wet cake. When I took a bite, I was in heaven. Full blown tres leches flavor and sooo moist. It's a mystery how they kept the cake's structure up with that much moisture and flavor! If you want the best tres leches in the dmv, this is the place to get it! Impressive cake, impressive customer service! read more

Delicious tres leches and BEST TAMALES I've ever had. They specialize in sweets but so glad we tried the tamales.

Worst CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER I had a terrible experience at Castro's Bakery. We bought a cake and even before they made it we asked to change it and they said no and made it we asked for certain changes, but Pam was incredibly rude and refused to make any adjustments. Her attitude was dismissive and unprofessional, making the entire experience very unpleasant . The cake itself was also disappointing - it was dry and lacked flavor. To make matters worse, the bakery was not clean, and the staff rolled their eyes and gave bad attitude Save your money and go somewhere else! I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone looking for good customer service and a good cake read more

This is the worst bakery and customer service that I have experienced. Staff lacks knowledge of business which caused horrible communication and my child to not have a cake on his birthday for his party. I would not recommend. Manager is nasty, and rude. I confirmed an urgent order 6/28 and on the morning of 6/29 was told that it could not be done. Myself and my mother called to confirm the miscommunication and nothing was done to help. 0 out of 10 read more

I came across this bakery to pick up my son and their customer service here is very rude and not organized.

Have good tres leche and cupcakes, other things are ok. Recently a friend ordered a birthday cake and paid for it and I had the receipt to pick it up. They required photo ID of my friend for pick up and wanted to charge $4 for a cake that already cost -350, ridiculous. Bad customer service read more

Tres Leches from Castro - one word: epic. I've been going here for years but looked on Yelp today to order a cake over the phone for pickup a little later today and was shocked at how bad the reviews are. I think everyone's wound up about the process for ordering a cake either over the phone or in person and how it's kind of a PITA. It's a cultural thing. This is exactly how a bakery would be run if it were in a Latin American country (you have to have the PINK receipt, not the charge slip, you have to stand in line and get a number, you have to sign a certain on a certain spot, not wherever you want. Might I suggest choosing to be nice and choosing to be flexible? Once you take a bite of that cake you'll know it was worth it. And if you speak Spanish, use it. ;) read more

Worst customer service ever ! I came to buy a cake & they wouldn't allow me to change it when i said i didn't want a specific cake . I've been seeing the sign for this bakery for years during my travels around Seven Corners! So, today I finally spontaneously decided to pull into the plaza and check it out! As it turns out, the bakery specializes in baked goods from El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico and North and South America. There are totally adorable pinatas hanging from the ceiling! The bakery has a large selection of sweets, including many types of cookies, cakes, tarts and more!! I decided to try out a piece of chocolate/vanilla/caramel cake and a vanilla custard tart with fresh fruit on it! The tart was wonderful! I devoured it way too fast! I really enjoyed the cake too, but I didn't realize it had a whipped cream-based frosting; I prefer sweet, buttercream frosting. I would definitely go back again! So many interesting and unique baked goods to try out! read more

Stopped here randomly and saw that other reviews had suggested the tres leches cake. I ordered a slice and it was so good! Not too sweet, soft consistency, great flavor. And I don't normally even like cakes. They also seemed to have a lot of other non-cake options. They were pretty busy inside and the service was quick. read more

I love the smell of a bakery and this one isn't any different. We ordered a queso bread (kind of like a cunape) and a buñuelo (a large circular crispy fried treat that is covered with melted brown sugar). The Dulce Bakery has the best cunapes, but I did enjoy their buñuelo - it was airy, crispy, sweet, and if you have a sweet tooth, this is a great treat. The staff were friendly and it seems as if a lot of people come in to get some treats to go. +buñuelo read more

My family has always gotten cakes from here so I decided to go myself. The cakes taste great but the customer service is terrible. Two days ago I called to order a red velvet cake. Over the phone I gave them my name, phone number, card info, cake flavor, and what I wanted written on top. I went in today to pick it up and they were super confused. The girl looked in the refrigerators and checked the back twice to ask. She then told me that nobody had made an order for a red velvet cake. I was upset and even showed her that I did make a phone call two days prior. She went to the back again, came back, then told me that they were actually just finishing the cake up. It was very strange how a few minutes before there was supposedly no cake and then now there is one? She told me to wait 5 minutes for it to come out and I ended up waiting 15 minutes. Not coming back here again. read more

Apart from waiting in the long line on Saturday for more than 10 minutes 01/09/2021 we specifically asked the lady for a fruit cake and I'm beyond mad right now. We cut the cake and there was no fruit inside just a plain cake this is very disappointing. I called the store and spoke to the guy in charge and he said he found the receipt that said that I requested fruit cake and told me to go back to the store with the cake and he would refund me knowing I live 30 minutes away and I texted him a picture of the uneaten cake without fruit and during the first call he hung up on me. This is unacceptable and embarrassing I want a full refund. read more

My family has been catering cakes from here for 15 years + and this is our go to place for cakes . Today was my first time ordering a cake over the phone and I wasn't sure what to expect. I called for an order of a small cake for 15 ppl and something simple saying Feliz Cumpleaños in pink. The cake is for about 15-18 ppl and I was actually able to keep the order process simple as well with the help of Omar who guided me through cake creation to payment and confirmation. Great first time experience and super convenient which is a must! Thank you for taking the time to walk me through the process with patience and kindness. This isn't something I see as much anymore because of the busy seasons and demanding people; things can get stressful for the business and customers. Definitely recommend for epic cakes and bakery items also! read more

I heard good things about their tres leches cake, so I ordered one for Mother's Day and it did not disappoint! My mother loved it and so did the rest of my family. I got their smaller sized cake (for a great price) and it's the perfect size for a family of 5. We even had some left over. I had been trying to find a place that knows how to make a good tres leches cake and I'm glad I found this place. Will def order again and be telling my friends about it! read more

How the heck does this place have a price rating of $$$$? With the majority of the items ranging from only $0.60-$3.00, I just don't understand the extremely skewed rating. Do I smell cheap customers, or just customers who are falsely rating this bakery in order to retaliate for their personal experience? Either way, naughty, naughty. If you want to voice your negative opinion, you lose credibility towards your case if what you present is even partially untrue. Just remember Yelp liars, karma will always catch you! For those of you who have interest in trying this little place, I can tell you honestly that it is worth it. If nothing else the Tres Leches Cake is a must. That cake is what dreams are made of. Dreams of moist, delicately sweet and creamy cake topped off with a price tag of only $3.50. Oh yeah, get ready to crave this later. Also get ready to wake up in the middle of the night, and closet eat it out of the refrigerator like a fat kid. Yes, I did this and am not afraid to be honest about it. :-p The staff is mostly all Spanish speaking, so ordering can be a little bit difficult if you don't at least know how to read Spanish writing. When I was there a young man came out from the back and helped me who spoke English very well, but the woman who had originally been working the counter didn't speak a lick of it. Perhaps they keep a staff member there at all times who speaks English just in case a Gringo happens to stop by. I'll be honest again and say that this language barrier is my only reason for not giving this place 5 stars. If you live and work here, please take the time to learn the national language. Thank you... If you're looking for a sweet treat for pennies, check out Castro Bakery. Please do me two favors if you go: First: try the Tres Leches Cake. Second: don't be passive-aggressive and negatively lie when you write a review on them. read more

I don't recommend coming to this bakery. The worst bakery in Falls Church hands down! We purchased a cake from here a few days ago for a birthday party and the birthday girl found a broken dirty fingernail in her piece. Extremely disgusting and nauseating, not to mention embarrassing. Very overpriced and mediocre quality baked "goods". This isn't the first time I've had an issue at this bakery but I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt, terrible mistake! Posting this so no one else goes through this. read more

We sauntered over here after dim sum, having smelled the delicious smells of sweet cake. Even though Castro Bakery is next door to Hong Kong Pearl, the clientele were different (i.e., Spanish speakers instead of Chinese speakers). Most of people coming in were picking up cakes (and perhaps one of the piñatas too). Honestly, I was a bit surprised by the cake prices ($30 for a smaller cake, which is why I deducted a star), but I bought a slice of cake and I now understand the prices. It's a layered cake with 2 layers of fruit in the middle (you can choose a different fruit for each layer) - and it wasn't overly sweet like a Safeway or Giant cake. It was pretty freaking delicious - I don't know how to describe it except to say that you need to try it yourself. We ended up picking up an assortment of 6 different pastries. My favorite (other than the cake) was the guava pastry (phyllo dough stuffed with guava deliciousness and baked in a triangle shape). I may have eaten more than my half while my husband was in the bathroom... He wasn't too pleased! One last note - bring cash if you plan to spend less than $15 - that's the minimum for using your credit card. read more

Hands down this is the spot to go for Tres Leches cake. I've been coming for years and am confused about the reviews for bad service. I never once encountered bad service and my family and I have been coming here since I was kid. Goes to show how long they have been in the game. I've gotten quince cakes, birthday cakes, holiday cakes and have been pleased with every single cake. I use to only speak Spanish when I would describe what I would want but they have plenty of staff that speaks fluent English to help you out. I never once had difficulty with my order or had it come out bad. I also love their different desserts and bread options that they have displayed when you walk in. read more

Been going here since it operated on Wilson Blvd near Jefferson St. 20 years ago. Their Tres Leche with custard and fruit is hands down the BEST cake I ever had. You pay more for the custard and fruit filling but it's well worth it. Moist cake and real whip cream icing. So refreshing compared to the heavy sickening sweet icing on grocery cakes. Always my go to for birthday cakes. read more

Their cakes will never dissapoint you they are delicious. They make all types of cakes even for big events and trust me everytime i buy cake from castro's bakery i get compliments of how good it taste. I'm not sure why I didn't listen to myself when I said I wouldn't order from here again but here I am, stuck with another ugly cake. Like I said in my previous review, Castro's has the best tasting cakes in my opinion but the customer service is so bad and they need to hire someone who can write a little better on the cakes. We came here yesterday to place an order for mothers day which is today (Sunday). They took the order and I told them what I wanted written on the cake which was "Feliz dia de las Madres." This means Happy Mothers Day in Spanish. My husband went to pick up the cake and the first thing he noticed was the horrible writing. Not only was the lettering really sloppy but they totally forgot two letters. One S for the word "las" and one S for the word "madres." My husband made them correct their mistake and asked them why they don't pay attention more to what they're doing. All the lady answered back was that she wasn't the one doing the writing of the cakes so it's not her fault. I understand that it's not the lady's fault but that is no way to respond to a customer who is in all his right to complain. Again this place just has terrible customer service and I don't recommend anyone getting cakes from here. read more

The smells filling Castro's Bakery were delightful! I entered the bakery looking for a small cake to pair with my coffee. Although I purchased a slice of banana bread and a second slice of corn bread, Castro's bakery seemed to specialize in large sheet cake orders for special occasions. The bread was good, but I would not get it again. There were three large cases of pastries, mostly Latin confections. And all pastries were labeled in Spanish. The staff was friendly and answered each of my questions about the pastries. I would return to try a pastry unique to Latin America. read more

So went to order a birthday cake for my daughter. After selecting the cake and placing the order I wanted to change the size of the cake. Was told I would be charged a 10% cancellation fee, which was $12. This was 30 seconds after placing the order. They had done no work. I told them I was not canceling my order, just modifying it. Manager said no and they had already spent time with me, like 5 minutes. Horrible customer service. Went to another bakery across the street, Tiffany's, and ordered the same cake there for half the price and had great service. Avoid this place like the plague, awful customer service and way over priced. Will never return. read more

I've been going to Castro's for years. My daughter is addicted to their fruit cake. This past Sunday, the fruit cake we got didn't seem very fresh, More like a couple days old. Now, if I hadn't been going here for years, I would give them 3 stars, but I know their true potential. I just dropped them down one star for getting my hopes up and letting me down. Any hoo, on a good day their fruit cake is 5 stars. Another thing to point out for non Spanish speaking customers, they do not speak English clearly or well. You have to be patient and never call when you're hungry and thinking about cake. You will lose it on the phone because they will not understand the simplest thing you say. Seriously, I'm not trying to be rude or throw shade, I know this from experience because I try not to eat when I know I'm getting Castro's cake. You have to go into the store and point at pictures and write things down. They're able to find someone that reads English. read more

I have been coming to Castro's for years and love all the cakes and food however lately the service has been lacking and slanted. On this visit I was skipped over numerous times for others that were not standing in the area to order. This visit I was picking up a cake only. After brining this to the attendant's attention I was verbally' corrected' about standing in the waiting area and spoken to in a very demeaning manner. The funny part about this was the night before when ordering we were helped immediately without standing even remotely near the order area. The only difference was on that night I had my Hispanic friend with me. Sorry to say but the level of service and attention to non-locals and certain demographics has really changed for the worse. One more point. I never received an apology from anyone including the manager for the treatment or rudeness. Signed your neighborhood blonde martial arts mom :) read more
