I am a single female traveler. I paid in full $506 05/12/2023 for travel 05/28/2023. Very helpful in sending information regarding my stay and local sights to see. The owner called me that evening at 8:45pm and proceeded to make, what I felt, were inappropriate comments. He followed up with a texted apology. While processing all this I decided to sleep on it before making a decision whether or not to cancel. I awoke to text messages from him starting at 3:37am to 4:55am the next morning. I kindly asked for a refund via text reply. $450 was sent back 05/13/2023 with the $56 held due to "last minute cancellation! What a peach. I called to inquire why he felt the need to withhold the full amount, that didn't go well. I have three sons and would kick their a$$e$ if they ever treated women this way. Dirty and the place is in the middle of a community. Small community seems to dislike the cabins because they are in the middle of all the homes. The cabins do not have a direct site to the river. Some questionable neighbors too with some of the homes having a ton of garbage and looks run down. Access to the river is through some easement that the owner's bought for their property which seems to be an issue with the community too. read more

I would say our experience is like a mix of other reviews: 3.5/5. We were supposed to have adjoining cottages (2 and 3), but due to owners staying in three one of us was moved to cottage 4. We only found this out when we arrived, not by a phone call or email. While these are quaint, I felt that they could be cleaner. I think more of an effort could have been made to have dusted and vacuumed. I will say the bed linens and bathroom area were clean, and warm. Everything was workable and doable. The owners were very nice and made sure we had enough firewood to stay warm. Very hospitable, and kind overall. A red flag for me was not seeing a clear smoke alarm or carbon monoxide alarm. Given that some of the appliances in here are old, and there are fireplaces and such.., that's a must. I don't know what lodging certifications require, but, as I said, a red flag. We had a great weekend away here, and the limited WiFi was a saving grace to really get disconnected from the digital world. If you have bad allergies that get easily bothered by dust, I can't recommend staying here. If you don't mind the rustic and charming nature and dust, then go for it. Beautiful area, lots to do, quaint cottages. I deducted one star because there are railroad tracks about 150 from the cottages that literally had freight trains running all day and night. This was not disclosed any where in marketing material and should have been. I deducted another star because of the lack of cleanliness of the room. Spiders, webs and new dirt being tracked in is one thing that is expected in the country. But, dirt in the corners of the floor, clearly months old spider webs with spiders and new unslept-in sheets with human and pet hair is another that is unacceptable to me. Yes, the cottages are old, which is okay, but they can be clean, vacuumed and dusted with clean sheets and towels. read more

Poor. Louse in my buddy's bed. The owner had a spotlight aimed from another building into my bedroom window timed to pulse on and off every two seconds, all night long. Torture-like. This place is really bad. Way overpriced. read more

We had a wonderful weekend staying at the cottages while celebrating a 12 year olds birthday. So much to do in the area we could have stayed longer; it was very hard to leave. The five boys never complained of being bored and didn't even use their electronics the entire weekend including t.v. Instead they swam, explored and skated the "loop". We enjoyed every meal outside on the deck. The area is amazing. The owners were on sight and welcoming and resourceful. One downside however and the sleeping could be upgraded. The hide a bed couch is the only option in one cottage and not comfortable. The other cottage has a twin with trundle and another hide a bed which has seen better days and needs to be replaced. But everything else was perfect and we will return. read more

Being a big fan of Marilyn Monroe and passing thru Castella I wanted to stay in cabin number three. I booked and paid for this room a month in advance. The day before we were to arrive I receive a message from the manager stating we could no longer stay in cabin number three, and could either stay in cabin number 4 or give us a refund. I was disappointed and assumed that something was wrong with the room and it could not be rented out. When we arrived the next day to check in I asked the manager why we had to switch rooms. The manager stated the owners came to town and wanted cabin number 3. This made me so mad the the owners would treat their guests this way. Not only did they change our requested room but there were no other guests staying in the inn and had 4 other available cabins to stay in. I wasn't that upset that we had to switch rooms, but finding out the owners kicked us out for themselves pissed me off. The manager also said cabin number 4 had a king bed, which was actually a twin bed trundle. Cabin number 3 has a actual bed. Just thought I should pass this on that if you do decide to stay here you may not get what you ask for if the owners decide to come into town. read more
