Been coming here for about a month now every week for Wednesday skate night with my family. Classic old-school skating rink that puts you in a different decade. The building is in the shape of a castle, lots of parking along the side with overflow in the back. They're only open at certain times during the week, including late night skating or holiday skating. Wednesday's are from 630-830p, entry is $3 plus $2 for skate rental. There's a concession stand and pro shop, with arcade games and party rooms for rent. They only play music from before 2000, which keeps that retro feeling. There are a lot of regulars and a lot of skilled skaters here!

Glow skate is so much fun

Castle Skateland is a well known landmark for those who grew up in the area. Those who came here as kids, now bring their own kids for skating fun. The outside really looks like a stone castle. And honestly the place hasn't changed much. The inside has a large rink, two party rooms, several arcade games and an upper and lower cafe area. They serve the typical nachos, pizza and drinks. Enough to keep hungry kids going. The place could use an update, especially the bathrooms! The sink and mirror are still on the OUTSIDE of the bathroom in the main skating area....it's just weird. The carpet is really old as well. But, hey we go to skate to some great tunes in glow lighting and for some cheap family fun, this place is great.

The dirtiest skate place I have ever been to!

Nasty nasty nasty nasty. I have never been to a dirtier skate place in my life. Gum covered the bottoms of the tables, carpet was so gross and stained all over, boogers all over the bathroom walls. My kids were FILTHY from touching the walls, arcade games, and tables.. their hands were BLACK! Food prices are worst than concert prices! The concept was nice, I like how they have the no wall entry, but that's it. Need to go home and shower!

Castle Skateland in Loveland is always a fun place to go if you like to skate, or just want to have a good time. "The #1 place to Rollerskate--on the largest skate floor--in the Tri-State," according to its website, Castle Skateland is indeed the best place around. Surprise, surprise, it looks like a castle from the outside, and they even keep the act going in the main lobby with some standing men of armor. Once inside, however, the castle theme seems to stop, but it's just where the fun begins. Castle Skateland is great for birthday parties and other group events. On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday evening, and Sunday it is actually open for private parties only, while throughout each month there are "Family Nights" and other special events. The skating is fun, as there is a large skate floor, lots of great music (make your own requests to the DJ), and the necessary cool lighting. Every hour or so, be ready for everyone's favorite, The Chicken Dance, at the center of the floor. Watch out, however, for the regulars who like to show off by skating backwards, and also make the less experienced nervous when they zoom right by, nearly cutting you off. If you don't have skates of your own, you can rent a regular pair for $1.75 or a low cut pair for $3.50, but I recommend bringing your own rollerblades unless you want to look like you're still living in the 80s. There is also a mini arcade and of course a place to exchange winning tickets for prizes, a snack bar, and even some pool tables on the second floor. If you grew up in Cincinnati, odds are you've been to Castle Skateland and had lots of fun. Even if you are no longer at that birthday party age, Castle Skateland is still just as fun.

The fitness room is small and contains a handful of weights, ellipticals, treadmills and bikes that have seen better days. If you're looking for a replacement for your Urban Fitness membership, look elsewhere. But... The good: First, THEY HAVE AN AMAZING ROLLERSKATING RINK. Seriously, this thing is so 70s, but in a cool retro way (not in an outdated way) - I'm talking a disco ball, primary colors and everything. It's totally underutilized - they have tons of adult skates and a projector to throw videos on the blank wall in the rink...you could really pull together an awesome event in the space. Secondly, adult memberships are crazy cheap. Adult memberships are only $25 for a whole year and apply to all 26 Cincinnati Rec Centers and most city pools. Plus, all the money directly benefits the greater OTR community. I mean, as a community resource, it's invaluable. They provide a safe environment for kids in the neighborhood - they offer a drop-in after school program, field trips, a game room and extracurricular classes for kids ages 5-18. The thing is, even if you don't have a particular interest in using the resources, buying a membership sends a clear message that you support that these recreation opportunities remain strong and viable in as many places as possible. On the other hand, if memberships go down, it sends a message to the city and the City Council that their services are not valued and therefore puts the center's budget higher up on the chopping block.

Even more impressive, the skating rink here is in much better condition than the more notable places in the area. The skates are made from plastic and come in bright neon colors. Elsewhere you're stuck with dingy suede skates. During Final Fridays, the rec center opens its doors to all adults for three hours of roller skating for only $2.00, which includes skate rental. http://www.yelp.com/biz/otr-skate-cincinnati Tired of skating? Just head out to the lounge for some pool or ping pong. There are rooms with couches and televisions, as well as your traditional gym equipment. Membership to the OTR Rec Center is $25.00 a year, and applies to all 26 Rec Centers in Cincinnati, as well as the city pools. The money goes right back into the OTR community, which keeps the rec center open to provide after-school opportunities to youth. The OTR Rec Center is tucked away on Republic Street, which is near Findlay Market's Race Street entrance. If you're looking for a great place to stay active, or more so, to rollerskate, OTR Rec Center has you covered!

However, the skating aids (the little rolling walker-type creations) were $7 a piece to rent for the evening. The women's bathroom was very clean. Interestingly, the sinks, mirrors, and hand dryers are outside of the restrooms. Inside is only the stalls. This creates a nice flow of traffic and avoids any traffic jams inside the restrooms. That said, all the preteens and teenagers had to do their primping outside the restrooms and fully visible to everyone inside the skating area. While the party included pizza and drinks, many of us bought food items from the concessions area before the food came out. The food was a bit slow coming out but everything was good and the fries were top notch! I'd definitely come back just for the arcade or just for skating. It seems that doing both would be a much larger time commitment, and enough to fill a major block in the day if you wanted.

I have been coming to this skating rink since I was a child and have consistently attended adult skate night for over a year, which is why this experience was especially upsetting to me. The first issue occurred at the snack counter around 11:49 PM. I politely asked for a cup of ice water and was told the stand was closed, even though the posted closing time was 12:00 AM. Less than five minutes later, I witnessed another customer being helped at the same counter. When I calmly asked why I had been denied service while another customer was assisted, I felt the response I received was dismissive and unprofessional. The second incident occurred on May 6th and involved my skate stoppers. One of my stoppers accidentally fell off before I could fully attach it, and I was trying to figure out a solution while also asking staff whether anyone had found the missing piece. I explained the situation respectfully and made it clear that I was not intentionally breaking the rules. However, I felt I was spoken to sarcastically and treated unfairly by a manager during the interaction. When I attempted to remove myself from the situation and seek help from another employee, I felt further confronted rather than assisted. The interaction escalated unnecessarily, and I was ultimately asked to leave and denied a refund despite trying to calmly explain my situation. I completely understand the importance of enforcing rules and maintaining safety. However, I believe all customers should be treated with fairness, professionalism, and respect. As a long-time customer who regularly supports adult skate night, I left feeling embarrassed, disrespected, and disappointed by how the situation was handled. I hope this feedback is taken seriously and used as an opportunity to improve customer service experiences moving forward -De'Aira
