As noted, everyone just loved the chocolates and treats from Castle Hill, so today I went back for two gifts. I should note that Castle Hill has moved. The address is correct on Google, but the photos there are from its former location in a shopping plaza nearby. Now it's diagonally across from the Foundry restaurant. Right now parking is across the street. I had gotten confused because I did not realize they had moved, so I went way out of my way and had to find my way back. By the time I got there, I was on the road for some time. I asked if they had a restroom and was told the town did not allow them to let customers use the restroom. I briefly considered leaving to find a bathroom, but decided the gifts were more important than my immediate comfort. (I found out down the street that Newtown does indeed have some odd restroom rules.....restaurants don't have to have them unless they're quite larger or something). That aside, I crossed my legs and stocked up up on sweet treats for friends and colleagues. Chocolate drizzled popcorn, chocolate covered oreos, holiday shaped chocolates would join their beautiful hand painted truffles in my gift baskets. I'm sure they'll be thrilled. Along the way I couldn't help but overhear another customer asking about placing an order for shipping. The staff member told her she could not take an online order. The woman told her she drove all the way here to place an order to ship as a gift. Again, the woman told her she could not place an order in the store, but she was welcome to go back to her car and place her order or go back home and do it. This seemed bizarre. She could have at least tried to help the woman who knew what she wanted and just wanted to order it for shipping. Between my mini bathroom ordeal and the way this poor woman's request was handled, I would think twice about driving all the way to Sandy Hook again.... great treats, but the service needs an upgrade. I should say the owner was so lovely on my last visit. Perhaps she'll make sure things like the online order situation is improved in the future. read more

You will receive a warm welcome when you arrive at this adorable shop. When you enter, you will be swept away with the chocolate aroma. The shelves are stocked with many delicious treats- and since they are gearing up for the Valentine's Day splurge, there is a lot to choose from. Unfortunately, the bonbon display was nearly empty when we arrived so we lacked the choices I was hoping for. We still took home a lovely box. My children enjoyed the chocolate covered Oreos too. I treated myself to a wonderful chocolate bar with orange. It had a name that I can't remember, but it was divine! It was $9.00 and worth every Penny. So for quite a few treats, it was around $65.00. Go in knowing you will spend good money BUT the chocolate and presentation is lovely. read more

Erica, the owner of Castle Hill Chocolate's has done it again. A year after presenting a chocolate and wine pairing at my daughter 's bridal shower she made magic again at my daughter in law's bridal shower. Erica is amazing. Incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, generous and helpful. We had a challenging group and she was able to accommodate everyone's allergies and sensitivities. She works hard behind the scenes, coordinating with the bride-to-be and the venue, and the parties flowed beautifully. The wine and chocolate pairings were perfect. Our guests were super engaged with her presentation, and everyone was laughing and delighted. I was able to just relax and enjoy. Erica is a treasure. Her chocolates are gorgeous and so so yummy. , I decided to splurge on a signature box of 16 pieces for $45, probably the most expensive I ever paid for chocolates. The site suggested to pre order and prepay for a box of a pre selected assortment and Could not choose my favorite ones: When I arrived at the store people were hand picking what they wanted...and I had to wait ? for the price, I wish I knew this was an option and would have picked the ones I really wanted. Box was modest with no description: I personally like to know and truly enjoy reading about the chocolate before tasting it: instead of guessing, I printed a complete list of the store offering from their web site. Not all chocolate were to our liking and most were dark chocolate, only one milk and one white ( again, the website and store have much more options). Over all, I found the chocolate to be really good and I just wish the option to preselect and the presentation were as the same level as the price. read more

I think the cookie butter chocolate was the only one I liked out of everything I had here. Nothing was bad, but most of the chocolates that were flavored just tasted like plain chocolate. There was not much flavor. I got the blood orange bonbon which I was really excited about but it just tasted like generic dark chocolate. The chocolate covered cherries were not that good. They tasted cheap. The texture of the chocolate was off. They were way too crunchy. Same went for the chocolate covered coconut pieces. A plus is that these were definitely the most beautiful chocolates I've ever seen and may be good for a gift. It seems like a lot of people like the chocolates here but I like bold flavors more than what these provided. read more

They have an interesting range of chocolates. Chocolate and bacon for example! I am a vegetarian but I bought it for a friend. Am curious to hear his opinion on that chocolate bar. The lady selling it to me assured me that it was really delicious. For myself I got the peanut butter brittle. And for another friend, I bough the pitachio cocoa nibs. All in all, I think I am very pleased with my purchases although it is on the pricey side! For example, the chocolate bar with bacon in it costs approximately 11 dollars, and it is not organic. Sigh. But I suppose as a novelty item, it is interesting and this nice little shop has to pay rent. read more

I stopped here in a little chocolate tour around the state so I got to try this place in direct comparison to many other chocolate options. With that said, this was the second best of what we sampled. The shop is small, but well-styled and comfortable to explore through some of their pre-packaged stuff (many of which I've seen at other shops). Their case is full of visually beautiful chocolates. A box of these would surely make a wonderful gift because the paint job on these truffles is the best I saw in the state. As for our service it was friendly and kind. The chocolates themselves were good, but of the three we got two were really good and one was ok/good. I'm not sure if they were worth the price when another sweet treat would sate any choclatey craving just as well. Though, like I said, I think for a gift this place would impress. read more

I'm an admitted "chocoholic" and can't resist good dark chocolate from almost anywhere but Castle Hill has found a way to make it even better. Their dark chocolate Nonpareils are the best I've ever had and darn near addictive. I have a few others like me in the family and they love them too. This place is really expensive and the chocolates are ok but not worth the price. All imported, blah blah. The chocolate covered cranberries are even a bit waxy tasting. The sales people are pushy and try to oversell. Just not a great experience. read more
