Cannot say enough good things about BD Provisions in Newtown, this is a place that I will be certainly revisiting again soon! The owners and staff are so friendly and helpful. This bulk store has coffee roasting, fresh nut butters, local honey, vinegars, bulk baking (including GF) and so much more! We love their focus and mission on sustainability- You can shop using the mason jars and return them the next time to have them cleaned. Every Saturday if you go into the store, you'll catch their coffee roasting in action, which is always cool to see. They offer a wide variety of gift options and packaging, which I couldn't recommend more upcoming celebrations. They will help you create it or you can put it together yourself too. There is plenty of parking and they have later hours so you can swing by after work (located right off of the Main Street). read more

The woman working gave us an attitude and then pointed out that they were closing in 5 minutes (which we were already aware of and quickly bagging up all of our items) - she was obviously in a rush to leave. This place is elite! They have everything you could ever ask for from fresh grounded coffee from all over the world to laundry sheets and detergent. I got the most amazing local honey made right in Newtown, great matcha, baby mini size animal crackers for my friends 3 year old, a Sandy Hook coordinate candle that scent is "winter in New England" for me to bring back to my California fam as a souvenir. We got great candy and ingredients this place is a must visit you'll be returning again and again. They have all different nuts and mixes and you can bring your own jar or buy one there and have them refill. The toasted coconut coffee is so yummy and I'm not even a big coffee girl. They're following all covid restrictions, masks, they give you sanitizer at the door and then gloves to wear while you're walking around. I can't believe I just discovered this place! My family got gift certificates here for Christmas, it was my first time but they're regulars since I am here for the holidays from out of town. read more

This place is straight up awesome. They have literally a hundred barrels filled with everything a foodie could want. Plenty of speciality grains, flour, spices, mixes for things like cookies, seasoned rice dishes, and oils and vinegars. They also have all of the ingredients in a bundle to make homemade elderberry syrup, if that's your thing. Prices for the seasons rices and grains are actually very reasonable, coming in at $5-$6 a pound, when you think that a 5 ounce box of commercial brands goes for $2 or so a box. First time customer and never going back. Spent nearly $10 on a small bag of the GF Pizza Flour but when I went to make it and followed the recipe (attached), it was just oily four. I called to ask what the problem was and told them that something seemed off. The person on the phone had to call her boss and get back to me, which she did, only to be told, "We got the recipe wrong. You also have to add a cup and 1/4 water." That's it. No apology, like, "Sorry we messed up a super important part" or "Did you already toss it out?" or some kind of credit the next time I'm in...y'know...regular customer service stuff. Nothing. I'm obviously the first person who ever bought that product since I was the guinea pig/sucker who found the problem. That's a job of a manager, not a customer, but whatever. Clearly, they don't care about repeat business. They just want your money now. One star only because the person on the phone was very nice. read more

The concept behind BD Provisions is a great one - think modernized genera store. You need a teaspoon of a spice, but don't want to commit to a whole bottle? BDs got you. You want one gummy bear (unrealistic but doable)? BDs got you. You want 10 pounds of pancake mix? They got you too. They are also very big into zero waste/reduced waste. They offer eco-friendly package options for customers to use. They even have a mason jar exchange program. You can bring in a mason jar in exchange for one of equivalent size/weight to use in stores. They'll take your old jar and sanitize it for future use. In addition to all the great things above, they carry some pretty unique products. For example, bacon infused olive oil, anise gummy candy, and whiskey syrup. If there is an item you'd like to see and is requested by enough customers, the team will work on getting it in the shop! The only thing is that I wish it was closer to me in Stamford but word on the street is that they have more franchises coming!! read more

Like Erica R., I'm obsessed with this place! I make a weekly trip to see what new discoveries are there. The store is a cornucopia of goodies and you never know what you'll find. From olive oils, to candy, to amazing coffee and fresh ground nut butter, and everything in between, it's there. The staff is amazing and without a doubt, the most helpful I've ever encountered. They really listen to what their customers want and really try to accommodate any request. They posted on their Facebook page that they had fresh ground nut butters. I asked if they could make a chocolate peanut butter, and a week later, it was available, with them tagging me in a post to let me know! That's what I call true customer service! I am OBSESSED with this place!!! I was there on opening day and fell in love. I am there during the week, almost every weekend, I wish I could live there! Such an amazing concept and laid out almost too perfectly! You walk in and are welcomed by friendly staff which doesn't happen much anywhere else I go! There are almost always samples at the counter by the coffee roaster... and the best part is... if you want to taste something before buying, just ask a staff member and they are more than happy to assist. The array of olive oils and vinegars are beautifully set up (I strongly recommend the ginger balsamic and the basil olive oil, two of my favs!) The blueberry muffin mix is amazing.... AND so easy, you add water and frozen or fresh blueberries, but they are SO good. The brownies, another fav! My new find is the wheat nuts, which are not nuts but have a cashew consistency. I have been back numerous times for these! My four dogs LOVE the dog treats they offer and I only by the finest for my babies. Whether you are looking for teas, spices, nut butter, rices, baking mixes, candies, coffee (which they roast their own blend) or beauty products (I love the activated charcoal and bentonite clay!) they have SO much and something for everyone! Also, I was in there last weekend with a basket full of items and thought "I am going to spend over $50" .....turns out... $18!!!!!! What?!?! The ability to buy a little, or a lot is the beauty of it all. Why spend $15 on a box of granulated monk fruit, to only use 2 tablespoons when I can go to BD And spend $1 and not throw the rest of the box away in a couple months because I never used it again. Went here a few times before the pandemic. Love Love Love the owner and all the employees are very pleasant. The owner rolls up his sleeves and is more than happy to converse and assist with answering questions and making products. High-quality products with lots of variety and I like the recyclable/sustainable mason jar or bring your own jar system. You MUST try the chocolate peanut butter spread, do not leave there without it! I'm serious! The layout/design is favorable with an industrial, modern, and simplistic feel. I have not been there since the pandemic and curious to see how the handling of the scoops for each product are sanitized, but I am sure they have worked that out. read more

Had a great experience visiting BDP for the first time last week! Because of COVID, they require everyone to sanitize their hands and wear gloves, and all staff and customers were wearing masks. It's a large and airy space, so I felt very safe. I liked that they have a great selection of nuts, dried fruit, and candy in unique flavors I've never seen before. I really enjoyed taking as much (and as little) as I wanted too. Had I known this place earlier, I totally would have made mixed candy and nut bags to give as gifts. They also have natural beauty and kitchen products that could serve as great gifts. They are definite worth checking out. read more

I love this store. The shopping experience is unlike anything in the area. They have bins of bulk goods that are sold by weight. We have tried their chocolates, coffee, tea, and a few grains and all are outstanding. They have paper bags available but if you're buying larger quantities of grains or beans you may want to bring a mason jar. read more
