    Nearly raw steak.

Given how crowded this restaurant was and the fact that people kept trying to get a table, reviews likely won't matter. They're in a convenient spot in a city swarming with tourists, but they don't deserve your money. We were seated right away but after about 10 minutes of no one acknowledging us, I got up to leave. It was then someone dashed over and asked us what we wanted to drink. We were hungry so I sat back down. The drinks were the only positive of the meal, a mojito and wine. I had salmon with rice and my husband ordered the tango plato with a baked potato. My salmon was over cooked, rice looked like something out of a box and my husband's steaks were partly undercooked with a side of hair on his plate. When someone finally asked us how our meal was (after I had to wave someone down to get a second glass of wine), my husband pointed out how undercooked the steak was and also pointed out the hair. We asked someone else for the check after trying to make it obvious we were finished and they cleared the table. I paid the check at the bar and the gentleman helping me asked if I wanted to add a tip. Uh, no. So we're about leave and the guy who'd seen my husband's nearly moo'ing steak walks up with two new steaks. Good grief. That's how they handled hair on the plate and under cooked steak - they brought two more under cooked steaks (without mentioning this was their plan); we'd already paid full price for a bad meal and bad service in a city where tipping isn't customary yet asked if we wanted to leave one after clearly not having a good meal. This place blows. They stay in business because of tourists which is a shame. Avoid; they don't deserve 4 stars.

Went here based off the high Yelp reviews, worst meal I had in Amsterdam. Ordered the Gran Parillida(huge meat dish for two) and requested the meat medium rare. When the meat came it was medium well-well, ribs and steak were extremely tough, shrimp was awful, no seasoning on anything, meal was a disgrace. I don't know how the place even got two stars, worst dinner experience in a long time and it cost around 60 euros. We ended up leaving half the meat and got of there ASAP, just awful. Do not make the mistake I did, try another steak place, you will regret this one big time.

Enjoyed several tapas; empanadas, ribs, ham croquettes, chorizo, Carpaccio, fries and all were delicious. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. Caipirinha and sangria very delicious.

Fast and good service. Great atmosphere and delicious food. Drink cortado after your meal. I strongly advice this restaurant.

Discovered Castillo two years ago on my own and last year went with my partner for our anniversary. In a week we'll be there again to celebrate his birthday!! Last year we ordered the Gran Parrillada for 2. So.Much.Food!! It was delicious. The chimichurri is to die for. After dinner we sat in the back on the sofas for some drinks. I adore the quaint atmosphere. I will come here every time I'm in Amsterdam.

    Beautiful warm interior.

I can't say enough nice things about this place. The steaks are great, the prices are reasonable, and the people are friendly. From the outside it doesn't look like much, but inside it is warm and friendly. There is an upstairs that is as nice as the downstairs. I'm sure it can get busy (we came early) but for us, it is worth it.

    The view from outside.

Great ambiance, incredible views, and a solid overall experience. Service in Europe is . . . different. Not bad, just not what I'm used to, so I try not to let that impact things too much. One thing I do want to call out: my daughter's friend has a severe allergy to seafood, nuts, and kiwi, and the staff was incredibly attentive and accommodating. That wasn't our experience everywhere in Europe, so it definitely stood out and was appreciated. We went simple with two steaks: the "Mrs. Porter" and a bone-in ribeye. Mrs. Porter needed a little more seasoning, but the ribeye was . Sides? Honestly don't even remember them . . . which probably says enough. The highlight might've been the "Mr. Fox" dessert. They bring out this chocolate fox head, pour liquid nitrogen into it, and crack it open tableside. Super cool presentation. Dessert itself was good, not amazing . . . but I'd order it again just for the show. End of the day: great ambiance, great views, good food, and a fun experience. I'll definitely be back.

The drink prices on the other hand are outrageous. 36 euro for the smallest martini I've ever had. Don't get me wrong, it tasted great, but still. Paid about 82 euro for two martinis and a non alcoholic drink. Probably gonna steer clear for the rest of our trip. There are much better and more affordable options outside the hotel.

It's a nice little place, you can sit in the front of the restaurant where the chefs are cooking or the back dining room, away from the outer doors. We opted for the front, it was neat to watch them cut and cook our meat. We went with the Wagyu carpaccio, scallops, and tuna tartare as the appetizers. These were all absolutely incredible. So fresh tasting, made to perfection. The right amount of flavor. Next we ordered the tomahawk. We didn't realize until after we were eating that it was bison. It was so fantastic, I'm actually glad we didn't know because neither myself or husband had ever tried it before so it gave us the chance to try something new that we may not have ordered. It was cooked perfectly for us. The right amount of pink. It was so tender to chew and in my opinion the right about of fat on the cut. The lobster was great, it had the right amount of butter than a slight hint of lemon, not overpowering. The breads were good but the butters stood out, absolutely heavenly. So creamy and flavorful. I am going to dream about this when we leave. The broccoli/cauliflower and mushrooms were just ok to us, nothing gave us a wow on them. Overall the meal was fantastic. My husband said it was the best meal in his life. Our server was very kind and attentive. The chef and owner were also exceptional. Everyone made us feel very welcomed and taken care of. We never felt like we were being overlooked or ignored. We would recommend this place if you're looking for a great meal and service and not a bad price tag. For the quality of food, the price is on par with that and worth it all.

The menu is simple - a variety of appetizers, couple of soups, a section for fish, and a section for steak and spare ribs. They also had a wine menu. We both ordered the spare ribs - him with a side of potato and me with a side of vegetables. The food arrived pretty quickly. The portions were large. The spare ribs were nicely sauced, fall off the bones tender, and absolutely delicious. The potatoes and vegetables tasted just as good. Prices were very reasonable. Will definitely return when in Amsterdam!
