When we got there the rude hostess said we couldn't put 2 empty tables together so we stood at the bar. Both of the Bimbo bartenders ignored us ,never smiled, looked like they hated working there and served drinks in plastic cups that were barely half full! Almost $60.00 for 4 Patron on the rocks with barely any Patron! This place is a total ripoff joint with rude employees. Never going back! You have to wonder...is the owner this clueless....or just doesn't care?.. read more

The young man who was seating people was extremely rude and unprofessional. I wanted a table for 7 outside and he said that he could not do that. I then asked for a table for four and a table for three that didnt have to be together and he said they couldn't do that either. There were tables available and. no one was waiting.I asked if 3 of us could sit at the bar, which he had not suggested. He had no interest in making sure we got seated. The waitress was very slow and did not give me my change back. She assumed that the entire change was her tip, but did not ask me about it. The food was good but I will not go back there. read more

Dinner on a Wednesday night. 6:30. Place was busy and were told there'd be about a 20 minute wait for a table for six. Hostess at the front podium directed us to the outside bar. Six of us had two drinks each and still no word on our table. It's now been about 35 minutes so I went to the podium. Hostess told me "should be about five more minutes," and five minutes later brought us to a table. An *outside* table. It was a chilly night, and we didn't ask for, nor did we want, an outside table. OK. Misunderstanding, or miscommunication. Not a problem. But... The hostess says to the mgr. *Now* they want to sit inside. Well we never wanted to sit outside. We weren't asked, either way. Also told the guy setting up the table that *Now* they want to sit inside. When I told her there was no 'Now' in the equation, I got the death stare, but no apology. Took nearly 30 more minutes to get a table (they were busy). Food was good. Lentil soup excellent, French Onion was lacking in the cheese dept., but tasted great. Shared a bunch of apps. which were all good. I'd go back, but would specify where we wanted to sit. read more

Great atmosphere! Owner was very nice and came around to check how everything was going . The fish sandwich was so good and fresh I will definitely be going back ! read more

On a super slow, off-season, Tuesday night, my fiancé and I ordered two Bullet bourbons, appetizers and dinner to celebrate our anniversary. Instead of getting Bullet bourbon, we each received a foul-tasting, very light yellow drink. We politely asked our server what we received and we were told the drinks were what we ordered. When we questioned it, letting her know that Bullet bourbon (like all bourbon) is dark brown, yet what we got was light yellow and off-taste, she got defensive and insisted we were wrong. Next thing we know; the bartender starts holding up a bottle of the brown, ACTUAL Bullet BOURBON. She starts screaming at us across the bar, in front of many patrons. She and our server insisted that our drinks were watered down, which is why they were light yellow instead of the dark brown color of our favorite bourbon that we drink regularly. 1) If the drinks were actually what we ordered, why were the ladies both proudly insisting that our expensive drinks were watered down from the start, which is why they were very light yellow? 2) Why did we still have to pay for these unknown drinks that we did not order, and did not drink, even after politely saying we received the wrong drinks? As full-time locals who live here year-round, along with our huge families, it would be nice to have Castaways be our local bar to frequent. Too bad... Whoever was working there tonight ruined that for us, and ruined our anniversary celebration. We both love Lenny's (and used to love Castaways) but we were so disrespected and disappointed that we don't want to go to Castaways or Lenny's ever again. Why is it so hard to get a glass of bourbon here?! read more

Went for lunch and had a nice meal. Douglas the bartender was very friendly and engaging. Food was excellent. We especially enjoyed the Thai shrimp appetizer. We definitely plan to return. read more

What happened? Yikes! This was our go to place for the fire grilled steak sandwich which had a beautiful 1/4 inch lean steak. Tonight it was replaced with one sliver of a deli meat sized piece of fatty meat. So basically I paid $20 for broccoli rabe on a roll with no fries. Please bring back the steak!! Won't be back until I hear this has been changed back. Huge disappointment! read more

Great burgers but very noisy / loud. Might try eating outside next time. Friendly service. read more

Food was less than average. Bbq sauce was sweet and cinnamon-y and gross. Pretzel bites were like from the frozen section at the grocery store. The service was mediocre at best. I couldn't for the life of you tell me why the place had such a wait. Bleh. read more

We are locals and stopped in for our first try here. Food was great but drinks were very expensive. In the off season I don't see paying that much for drinks. I can see someone charging whatever they can get during summer but in the slow season I think this should be a more reasonable area. read more

Wish I could give it zero . From the bugs on the floor to the horrible food. Save your money don't go

This place is litterly the diamond in the ruff. Whenever I am down here in the area I always come down just for the hidden Jem. The fries. The fries are exquisite! The staff is friendly and gave me 3 drinks instead of 2! Nice people! The food is excellent and so is the band to. It's never to packed if it's a wait go to the bar. The bar has music tables and love. And the chirley temples are mhm mhm mmmm. This is one of my favorite places in new jearsy. It's truly a hidden jem! read more

Would not recommend. $14 hamburger for 4 ounces and extra charge for everything. Lucky if we got 8 French fries with our order. McDonalds has a better burger then this place. Draft beer had terrible taste needed to exchange for a bottle. Service was decent but save your money and go somewhere else. read more

Don't waste you money if your looking for food. Ordered the steak sandwich for EIGHTEEN DOLLARS and there was about one thin slice of meat on the entire sandwich and that eighteen dollars doesn't even include fries! Fries were an extra $3 for about nine. My whole group had similar experiences with their meals and we will not be returning. If your looking for a place to drink they do have outdoor space so it may not be too bad read more

Great place for food and drinks, with excellent service! Outside bar has the perfect vibe for happy hour, and the absolute best bartenders! We are here every weekend! Hidden gem in Lavallette! Shout out to Dee :) read more

Unbelievable turkey club. 20/10. The bread- a fresh baguette, crispy, warm, comforting: the perfect chew. The turkey fresh out of the over carved by hand. Bacon cooked to the perfect crisp with a nice Smokey flavor. I will be coming back for it. Delightful read more

Great local spot. Food is great! We had the happy hour bar specials- chips n queso, pretzel bites but I really enjoyed the steak and tomato appetizer also the shrimp and toast app. We got a bunch of apps but those two are my favorite. Our bartender was Michelle she was great, fun and very attentive. She made us great drinks and gives the best pours! Definitely going back for dinner.... read more

How much do I love this place? Let me count the ways! Great pub fare, fresh and delicious, excellent bread (you can tell I hail from NYC), cozy, tavern-like atmosphere. Win-win! read more

The male bartender tonight was just rude. Nice atmosphere that would be greatly improved with a change in attitude.

I pass by this place on my way to work everyday and finally got to try it out this week for dinner! I have to say for a small place, they really do make the most of it. There's a nice outdoor seating area where they had live music playing which helped given that the wait was 45 minutes. The menu is basically condensed pub food. There's not a wide variety of options BUT everything we got was very good. We got two different burgers, sides of guacamole and mac and cheese, and white peach sangria. The burgers were juicy, fresh, and flavorful. The mac and cheese side was HUGE and cheesey as it should be. The guacamole side was kind of small but still good. But that sangria...omg I would go back specifically for a pitcher of just that! There is a wide bar menu of liquors as well as seasonal drinks. Our waitress was super personable and attentive as well. read more

Great place with good drinks and food - love the ambiance and laidback atmosphere - will definitely be back

ordered shrimp, clam and mussels In a sauce with spaghetti and my wife ordered clams with Orzo. The only problem is there was hardly any spaghetti's and hardly any Orzo. very small portion of pasta, when pasta is so inexpensive. Also the dinner didn't even come with a piece of bread in which whenever I have a dinner at any other restaurant it typically come with bread and butter. Also an empty bowl to put shells in was not provided and I had to ask the waitress for a bowl. the mixed drink was all ice and maybe 4 sips of alcohol. terrible experience and I will never go back for dinner at this place read more

Amazing new addition to the town. Amazing spicy margs, burgers, and shrimp. We've tried almost the whole menu and haven't been dissapointed. A new bar is being constructed outside as well! read more

Came here the other night for the first time and was very pleased. We sat at the bar abd had the bar bites. Excellent French bread pizza and meatballs. The pork tacos were very good also. It was happy hour so our cocktails were very affordable. The bartenders were very friendly and attentive. Looking forward to coming back and the outdoor bar will be great come summer time read more

Awful Place. Food is below average. Menu is VEry limited. Do not waste your time. Extremely disappointing. read more

We are in town from Dallas Texas and we decided to walk over to have dinner last night for my Aunt's birthday dinner. We had 7 adults and 3 small children. While we waited for a table large enough to accommodate us, a waitress came out to serve us drinks and make us feel welcome. We were seated about 20 minutes later in a corner spot. (Perfect to keep the kids corralled) The food was DELICIOUS and cooked to perfection. I had the Thai chili wings and they were the BEST chicken wings I've ever had. My aunt and mom had the portobello sandwich and they are still raving about it. The pineapple ranch water special was my drink of choice and it did not disappoint. The owner was a HUGE help, he brought our kids paper to color while we sat helped pick up their toys when they dropped them and brought condiments when we asked. We were all so impressed and we can't WAIT to come back and come to castaways again. Thank you!!!! read more

This place is a disappointment. It is extremely overpriced for burgers that resemble a McDonald's burger. The burger came out on a small appetizer plate. that alone should depict how small it was and it was $15 (without fries or a side). Liquor was severely watered down as well. It is not worth the hour wait for beyond overpriced bar food. 2 stars for great music and the waitress was very nice. read more

Fabulous food great service cozy .Phil is a great host staff always helpful and happy

Born and raised at the shore this is first and only time I've been charged a surcharge to buy a single pint of beer with a card, not only that but the Miller Lite draft I got was clearly flat, bartenders were aware of it and still served it. Small stale lime wedges served with Corona. Didn't try food. Outdoor bar had good vibe and decent music was about the only plus but not enough to keep me there after one beer. read more

Give this place a few weeks to figure out their menu & staff. The food was alright, nothing terrible happened but all of our food was super dry. I think they are just overwhelmed and need time to get everything together. Got the steak sandwich and my family members got the chicken sandwich. Also the man host was not social at all. He wasn't the nicest over the phone and we all thanked him after dinner and he said nothing. read more

First time visiting since it's opened. Got the chicken wings and cocktail. Now I'm no expert on fried poultry, but their wings have to be some of the best I've ever had. Double fried and perfectly moist. Cocktail was refreshing and service was lovely. Can't wait to come back next time we are visiting the area. read more

excellent food and service!!! steak sandwich is amazing! great drinks and atmosphere. can't wait to go back! read more

This place was so underwhelming. Food was extremely overpriced. We got the mussels that had zero flavor, two sandwich's and a side of truffle fries. The truffle fries had absolutely no truffle on them and were soggy wedges. The steak sandwich was $22 and had a single pounded thin piece of steak on it. There was zero meat on the sandwich whatsoever. The server gave us the "list" of IPAs that was minimal and when we asked about beers we saw on tap inside she said it was different than outside and those were not available to us. The entire meal she came over once only to take our order and never followed up on how we were doing or how the food was or if there was anything else we needed. We did not see her again until it was time to drop the check. We passed this place so many times wanting to check it out and finally had the chance to stop in and were so disappointed in the food and service. The ambiance was great and had so much potential but with the prices of disappointing food and beer and service provided we will definitely not be back. read more

My husband and I love this place. It has a great casual feel and good food. we always get the Caesar salad with blackened chicken and the empanadas. They have live music often and service has been great. this is exactly what Lavallette needed. read more

I sat at the bar. The bartenders were very friendly and made a great drink. I had a couple appetizers that were both fantastic. The drunken clams were one of the best clam dishes I have ever had. Will be back on my next trip to the shore. read more

There' customer service sucks! Ask them how long to wait and the girl didn't know and gave an attitude. Then said probably 2 hours meanwhile no one was waiting. Is it because I had 2 teenage boys with me? I will never go again and own a beach house 2 blocks away. read more

Loved the inside and the ambiance of the restaurant. However, giving three stars due to some rude interactions with the male bartender in a backwards hat last evening. read more

I have to say their food is delicious but other than that this place needs serious help. Having worked as a hostess & server for many years I know the ins and outs of how to run a restaurant. The hostess turned us away and told us it was a 30 minute wait to be seated out side when there was a visible 4 top table open at that very moment. Absolutely ridiculous. Adam was our server he was great but so extremely overwhelmed having to run the entire bar all while serving food. Food came out not all at the same time which was extremely disappointing, finished my whole meal before my side came out. Desperately needs staff & the proper instructions on how to run a restaurant. I believe the owner walks around the whole time with his sunglasses on, i don't know why he bothers to be there if he's not going to great his customers & look miserable the entire time. read more
