Hells flat lumber is one of the larger establishments for home improvement in the area. Think of it…read morelike an Ace Hardware, on crack. They're not nearly as large as a Home Depot or Lowe's, unless you are in the lumber department... Then they might even be larger. I came in here to grab some materials for a deck rebuild. They had all of the hardware for the posts that I needed neatly organized and easy to navigate. Staff was also friendly and helpful. Unknowingly when I walked in, they have a tool rental counter. I was able to rent the rotary hammer that I needed to drill into the concrete. The staff member at the rental counter was super helpful, and I was able to show him pictures of the situation, and show him the hardware I was buying and he helped us determine exactly what we needed, and the right size. I was also surprised to see that they have very high-end landscaping and contractor tools. When I was short a 4 x 4 post, I was able to order it at the lumber counter or drive my truck back to pick one out of the lumber bays. Overall, a very pleasant experience and so glad they were able to help us get this DIY project complete!

They have everything you'd expect at an Ace hardware location, but they also have a substantial lumber section. This Ace carries them for $10/box cheaper than they were at Hills Flat, so that was a score!

They kept being vague about hours in the interview so I let them know I was available Monday-Friday and the time and the hours from 8-10 hrs those days due to childcare at the time. They had no intent on hiring me probably because of those hours and my need for an answer about what hours they needed. Mind you I went on to have state and federal roles.

Merrill & Sons gave us the perfect fix for our 1966 septic tank. The redwood plank lid had rotted…read morethrough and needed replacing. Our septic company wanted over $1,000 to replace it, so we figured if it was going to cost that much, we might as well choose a longer-lasting option--concrete lids. Because our tank is poured-in-place concrete (not a precast tank), the lids had to be made in a custom shape using the measurements and drawing we provided. Merrill & Sons charged only a couple hundred dollars more than the original quote to make the lids from scratch and deliver them once they had cured, which took a few weeks. The new lids fit perfectly and have standard access holes, so we won't have to dig and scrape every five years to get the tank pumped. From start to finish, Merrill & Sons were great to work with.
