The coffee gods smiled on me when I was able to not only find CSC but also found a table near a plug-in for my computer! It's very hard to find a coffee shop that serves amazing coffee but is also inviting for people to hunker down and work at. There may not be a ton of spaces (2 small tables on the first floor, about 8 small tables and one long table up in the loft) and all are fairly close to outlets (if you need that sort of thing, which I do!). I heard about their house-made syrups and I decided to splurge by ordering a salted caramel latte. Man, it was so good! If you've ever had a See's Candies' caramel lollipop, this tastes just like that plus a good dose of sea salt. Brilliantly done. read more

I remember when TeeBee's barber shop was the only business on the block. Moved away, and visited P-Town recently. Case Study is dope. Had a solid Latte and wife had a good Cap. This is my local coffee shop! It's on my way to work. They have friendly staff and I can always know for sure my soy latte will be excellent. It's all about consistency and these baristas have it! They are all super friendly. The design is cool and hip. My husband even roasts coffee (not here) and while I love his coffee (his shops are just out of the way of my morning routine!), I have to cheat on him everyday by drinking Case Study Coffee! The espresso itself was rich and robust but I'm occasionally a sucker for flavored syrups and I was drawn in by the idea that they make their syrups in-house. I ordered the fleur de sel latte and my friend had the hazelnut. Neither of us could detect anything beyond standard frothy espresso latte flavor... I was very amused by the caffeine molecule chandelier, however, and their decor was very tasteful and modern with a large table upstairs for larger groups. Case Study Coffee is a writer/student paradise! One of the top cafes on Alberta/North Portland. Case Study was one of the first caffeinated watering holes i discovered, upon moving to North Portland, being right down the street from Collage, where H. works. I was initially attracted to the soothing lighting and stylish decor, but came to fall in love with the overall ambiance of the place. They always play good music, lots of classic classy jams like jazz, soul, and funk, sometimes spun straight off of vinyl, making it a great stop for the music lover. The crew is always super pleasant, without a trace of condescending attitude, which is refreshing to find on Alberta. Case Study also roast their own coffee - a warm, medium-blend, kind of nutty, a little peat-y; that Earthy coffee flavor Portland roasters seem to specialize in. Case Study on Alberta has become a new favorite for our coffee needs. They serve some amazing lattes, and we like to get their deviation blend to take home for our espresso machine. The baristas were pretty snotty when they first opened, which I would have given 4 stars for, but recently they have been really nice. Perhaps they have a new manager or something. Or maybe they realized being rude was a waste of time. Either way, that's a nice change. I'm not looking for best friends or anything, but you know, a smile and acknowledging that I'm standing at the register is a plus. They are conveniently right next to Tin Shed, so when you are waiting for a table (and you will be) you can get a tasty drink. The space is amazing too. This was a nice little coffee shop especially if you needed to spend some time doing work or studying. It was quiet and unassuming with an nice cold brew coffee. The balcony upstairs is particularly inviting as it's bright and airy. I also had a chocolate chip cookie which was probably a four on a scale of 1 to 10. Coming here made me happy. They put hearts on every drink, they have a caffeine molecule for a light fixture, the latte does not need to be sweetened. I cannot avoid two drinks a day. Terrible experience from start to finish. Worst coffee, had to ask them to remake it and the second one was equally bad. No place to sit because every table was occupied by loafers on their computers. Finally a table opened up, my friend and I were visiting while everyone around us gave us the stink eye because we apparently we were distributing them. It's a coffee shop not a library for God's sake. To top it off the staff was rude. These guys just opened in my neighborhood and I'm really glad! There are a ton of coffee options on Alberta and it can be hard to compete with some of the stellar options. I had the basic black coffee, a cappuccino, and roasted beans for home. The beans were some of the best I have had in awhile. I went through that bag so fast and need to walk to get more. The cappuccino was delightful and well balanced on the foam. The service was super friendly, talkative, and excited about being in the neighborhood. The overall vibe is warm, and has the post 1900 craftman look most businesses are going for these days. You know, subway tile, exposed beams, strategic metal accents here and there. It works. Very good coffee, I was surprised at how strong the cold brew was. Glad I have a good stomach and the bathroom was clean and inviting. The many plants above us provided a nice almost jungle-esque atmosphere. As max demarco played softly in the background I thought to myself, "this would be a good place to come back to". I was with 4 adults who experience developmental disabilities and the staff at Case Study was understanding of the specific needs they had. In time, lively conversation broke out between my clients and the baristas behind the counter. They patiently explained how the coffee roaster worked and we learned that it is no longer in service. Possibly the best coffee on Alberta, which says a lot considering how many awesome shops there are! Order something with espresso in it, and ask the staff about their roast selection. They roast all their own beans and usually have a blend or two along with a few single-origin options. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. I talked to the cashier about their beans; he said they recently expanded enough to get some direct-trade going for a Guatemalan variety they use. They don't mess around! The space is a quiet, stylish ordeal. On dry days they open up the cafe's "garage door" which creates a wonderful open-air seating area.
