I may have been slightly inebriated from an extensive morning wine tour prior to dining here, but…read morewe loved this place. First of all, the building itself is gorgeous. If you're on the main floor, make sure you take a minute to walk up to the upper dining areas because the views are awesome, and the stairway up is really cool. It is a tapas styled place, so portions are small, prices are medium-high, but hey; you're in wine country. I started with the Duck Rilette which was fantastic, but I'm biased because I love all things pâté. The little pieces of cracker that it comes with are delightfully crunchy and yummy. My friends had the beef carpaccio, which I received positive reports about. I have to rave about the apple cider braised pork pork pasta though, because it's probably one of the best things I've tasted. It's a light dish, perfect for summer. The sauce is an incredibly flavourful and complex broth: magnificently salty, slightly sour, slightly sweet, and cilantro-ey. The pork is succulent, soft, and juicy, having soaked up all the sauce. Colourful slightly roasted cherry tomatoes brighten the dish. I literally licked my plate clean, and I was not discreet because there is no shame in enjoying amazing food. Downside? The portion was too damn small. I need more of that deliciousness. Next time I'm in town, I'm ordering two.

The grounds and gardens are simple and colorful. I think this place was likely built in the late 80s, and it had that retro Steely Dan vibe to the place. We didn't try the dining area, but they do have a low key spot that while not as atmospheric as other winery restaurants in the area, did seem to have a active crowd enjoying the afternoon sun. It reminded me a little bit of V. Sattui in Napa. We sampled several wines in the tasting room and this was one of the few real wine misses we had in the Okanagan Valley. Nothing here really hit the mark and we tried four to six wines, to no avail. Wine tasting can be fairly subjective, but the wines here just didn't mesh with our palate or interests. For us, this winery was a miss.

I can only imagine what it would be like if BC was not so hot and dry! Got here around noon and there was a few groups of people scattered around enjoying the views. I didn't have any issues finding many different areas to take photos of her day. Lots of shade and areas to sit. I used the bathroom and it was clean. All in all great day for photo shoot!

We found that the gardens work on donations only (don't forget to donate as you drive in). There is plenty of parking, and it's lovely views all around. There are bathrooms and water fountains. We spent some time watching the Kettle Valley Train cross the bridge which was cool. We also spent time just walking around the big open garden spaces. We really liked how there were lots of different seating areas. Some were just benches and others were areas that a group could gather around. Some of the trees in the area were really interesting and large. Overall, this is a great place to let kids run around, spend some time outdoors, or just see some great nature. That someone looked up and said something like: we're officially closed in about 2-minutes, but since you're already here, I'm sure we can manage a "power-tasting", come with me! Absolutely lovely energy in their new space. Even though it was obviously past closing time, the staff all seemed genuinely happy to be there and willing to assist the handful of customers that were still there, myself and even a couple more late comers. It was such a contrast to the experience I had only a day before when a few friends and I went to Monster Vineyards the day before - they were obviously quite displeased that we'd arrived close to closing and had the gall to ask if we could do a tasting, but I'll get to that review. This experience at Joie Farms was a lovely reminder that not everyone feels like they only should work till the end of their shift and a second more is them doing you a favour. Delicious wine, knowledgeable staff that was enthusiastic and willing to help, and a gorgeous new tasting room - a definite 5/5 experience.

Joie Farm Winery calls it the 'picnique' area, which was aptly named. With picnic blankets and comfortable lawn chairs, and mini tables for you to rest your wine glasses, this was the perfect set up for a relaxing afternoon. We also had a wine tasting at Joie. My favourite Joie rosé was already sold out for the season, but I found a new favourite, the En Famille Gewurztraminer. It was so good that we decided to get a bottle to complement our pizza. They are now closed for the season and will open back up in May. I highly recommend coming here for a relaxing afternoon, just sitting in the picnique area!
