The memory care director is easily accessible and often found on the floor helping. The memory care has a full time RN with his office located in memory care, the meals are prepared on site and served warm and fresh. Everyone from the director, aides, chefs, entertainment director and housekeeper were involved in my dad's care. Moving a loved one into memory care was not easy, but during my father's year at the Springs, he was well cared for and was able to stay at the Springs and pass peacefully on hospice care. My father had been in multiple facilities in the Eugene area and it was not until we moved into the Spring's Memory Care that we felt he was safe, well cared for and stimulated with activities.

For what elderly people pay to live here, they aren't getting anything special. Growing up around…read morenursing homes, I have no respect for this place. It's a nice facility, but there are problems. I've had family stay here before, and I think there are a lot better options out there. My biggest pet peeve about any type of assisted living facility versus a hospital or nursing home is the fact that the employees aren't required to go through any training through the Oregon State Board of Nursing to work here. Any idiot on the planet can work here. Which includes passing out narcotics to patients/residents. I don't know about anyone else, but I find someone without any certification or training handing out narcotics to be a problem. The food leaves a lot to be desired. Again, I doubt they hire anyone who knows how to cook, budget, or portion it correctly. I am not remotely impressed. Usually in places like this they will have a nutritionist on staff, and the head of the kitchen will have a degree. Not just a random person who can cook at home. The facility is nice, like I said. For cleanliness and being aesthetically pleasing, it gets an A plus. They have a very small parking lot, that isn't sectioned off, or marked in any way, which I think it should be. It should be marked for residents, employees, and visitors. That way everyone parks in the correct area, and residents aren't left parking at the end of the lot and walking way more than they can actually handle. The parking lot is also very small. I think it needs to be a little bit bigger to handle all of the employees, residents, and visitors. They also abuse the fire lane. The administrator will park her truck there, in a marked loading zone for paramedics and fire trucks. Long after I had a family member live here, I had to go in for work, and I had hopes that they had improved. I was disappointed. Employees are less than friendly. I've had to deliver newspapers in here, which they let me in the door, I had to ring a doorbell. I was let in, and since it wasn't normally my route, I had to ask the employee who typically delivered them. Some places have the staff do it, some have the carrier do it, it varies by each place. The employee cops a total attitude, and instead of just saying I needed to deliver to each individual room, she says, "I hope you don't expect me to deliver those for you." I thought she could have approached that in a totally different manner that didn't come across in such a hostile way. I had no problem doing it myself, but I wanted confirmation as to how it was typically done. Is it a place I would recommend? Absolutely not. It gets two stars for being a clean facility, but that's about the extent of the positive aspect of this place. Like I said, there are far better assisted living facilities out there, with much better employees as well.

High staff turnover is the evidence of concern about the residents. I was placed in the position of constantly training overworked staff about specifics of her "plan of care", because many didn't have knowledge of working with elders. I won't even start in on the institutional food that was served. It was so disheartening to see so little fresh fruit and nourishing fresh vegetables being offered. But, she loved the view of the Butte, deer and wild turkeys. And the facility was close to my home; not much assisted living offered in south Eugene.

The staff seemed very nice and helpful, especially Trena. The location was pretty outside and wild turkey were running through the complex. The drawbacks: It's not a large facility and not new so inside is a little dark and looks older with outdated furnishings. The room my parent had was small and was not clean upon arrival. They charged a one time fee to cover the costs of cleaning and painting the room after each resident left but clearly that didn't happen as the room had holes in the walls, wasn't painted and had a dirty mini fridge and dirty carpet. The cleaning didn't happen often as it was dirty when we had to pack the room and clean up. Also, and not the fault of the staff I think but rather facilities, when the personal belongings were picked up, someone there claimed the belongings were the residential community furniture including the TV although all of that was ours. We took the items home but it was disappointing for that to happen. Two weeks of care cost a full month of rent, one time community fee and personal services care costs so it came out expensive for such a short time - with no offer of reduction due to the short timeframe. The staff really seemed to care but because of these issues I would not take my parent back there.

We were assured the help would check on mom every two hour since she was unable to go to the restroom on her own. They told us they wanted this to be her forever home. This seemed like the perfect place for mom. Two days after we moved mom in she fell trying to get to the restroom on her own. She slit her arm open with a bad wound. She was sent to the hospital. The hospital returned her to River Run but her arm got infected and she had to return to the hospital. After several days in the hospital she was sent to a rehab facility for three weeks. Mom was then returned to River Run Place where she spent two days before she fell again. The hospital said that mom was now a two person lift. When they called River Run, Luke told them he could not take care of her. We were put in a horrible situation trying to find a place for my mom on such short notice The only reason we chose River Run was because we were assured they could do a two person lift. We are still not sure if we will get any of our almost $12,000 back. Way too much money and stress for the five days she lived there. I do not feel this is a safe place if your loved one needs special help.

The care staff are fantastic and really excellent at communicating. The residents are cared for, clean, and well fed. I'm able to sleep at night knowing my parents are in good hands. I won't lie. It is expensive. However, when I see all of the staff and how much they do for each resident, it is worth it to me. My only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is due to a difficulty that I believe is being resolved. Last fall, the administrator for my parents area was very difficult for me to communicate with. This person is no longer employed at Churchill and a new person is coming on board soon. The temporary administrator and the new higher up administrator are really great and have filled the gap without any change to my parents' care. They have been very available. I'm really excited for the new changes coming in the future and I may add a star.
