However, the heroes of the project were Michael + Jonathan who built our fence. The took out the prior fence and checked in with our 96 yr old neighbor that we share the fence with to make sure he approved. He did! The walked me thru the finished fence and even added a "puppy protector" mini fence to keep our dog contained. They were super respectful, kind and FAST. We paid nearly $48,000 for a deck, expecting quality workmanship, professionalism, and clear communication. Unfortunately, that was far from our experience. From the beginning, communication was poor, scheduling was inconsistent, and we had serious concerns about the quality of the work. We observed uneven decking, excessive fraying, poorly cut or damaged boards, improperly installed fasteners, and a worksite that was repeatedly left in unacceptable condition. These are issues that should have been caught and corrected by the company, not repeatedly pointed out by the homeowners. We specifically requested an in-house crew, yet subcontractors were sent instead. This was particularly frustrating because we had made our preference clear from the beginning. We were so dissatisfied with their workmanship and conduct that we eventually asked for them to be removed from the project. What bothered us most was that the company wasn't proactively offering to correct the problems we identified. I had to repeatedly push and demand that issues be addressed. We shouldn't have had to fight for basic workmanship standards on a project costing nearly $48,000. The attached photos shows how the property was left on a day the crew wasn't even scheduled to work. This wasn't an isolated incident. Our property was left in similar conditions for more than half of the project. We found the worksite messy and unsafe, and it was disappointing to see so little consideration for our home. We identified more than 30 areas of excessive fraying throughout the deck. When I raised concerns, I was told a good pressure washing would take care of it. Considering this is finished composite decking, I found that response concerning. Only some of the workmanship issues shown in the attached photos were ever addressed. Even after a new crew came in to finish the project, there were still problems. The skirting boards were damaged, the skirting door rubbed against its frame, and the door handle was already damaged. The photos show the condition of these areas immediately after the project was completed, not after months of use. It's incredibly disappointing that these issues remained even after the company had an opportunity to make things right. We also experienced a lack of transparency and what we felt was dishonesty regarding the permitting and inspection process. We repeatedly had to ask questions, seek clarification, and request updates before eventually involving company leadership. I spent an unbelievable amount of time documenting concerns, emailing employees, following up, and monitoring the project. We thought we hired professionals. Instead, I felt like I had to oversee the work myself just to make sure our concerns were taken seriously. My husband and I value our time, and we certainly didn't expect to spend this much of it managing a company we hired to do a job. Although some efforts were eventually made to correct certain problems, we remain disappointed with the finished product. There are scratches on the decking, unresolved workmanship concerns, and questions about how certain areas will hold up over time. What made this experience especially frustrating wasn't just the workmanship. It was the lack of accountability, inconsistent communication, and the fact that we had to continually advocate for issues to be corrected rather than the company taking the initiative. Once trust was lost, it became difficult to feel confident in the work being done. I do appreciate the individuals who eventually made an effort to address our concerns. However, those efforts don't change the overall experience or the condition of the finished product. We documented the entire project through photographs, videos, and written communication. I strongly encourage anyone considering Cascade Fence & Deck to carefully review their contract, confirm whether an in-house crew or subcontractors will be performing the work, stay involved throughout the project, and document everything. Better yet, find a company you don't have to micromanage that isn't a HACK. For nearly $48,000, we expected a much better experience and a finished product we could feel good about. Instead, what should have been an exciting home improvement project turned into weeks of unnecessary stress, frustration, and disappointment. The price was very reasonable for the originally planned work, but in the end it turned out to be a great value for everything they did to get it perfect for us. Jesus is extremely nice and approachable, and he was excellent with communication and check-ins. As soon as they finished the backyard landscaping job today, I signed another contract for them to do our fencing, and we're planning on having them back to improve our sprinkler system next Spring.

He has built three different types of decks on my current property and all of them are of top quality and built to last. The first deck Pete built for me was to replace a cedar deck attached to my home. He used Brazilian Hardwood, or IPE, because of its durability and low maintenance qualities. The picture is current of a deck that was built 14 years ago. The second deck he built was around my Koi pond and we chose Trex decking to go over existing structure. This deck is 13 years old and as attractive as the day it was built. The third deck he built was a few months ago. The deck it replaced was cedar and I wanted to replicate what was there because it lasted so well. Pete used pressure treated beams stringers. Any cuts in the wood was painted with a protective treatment that is necessary when such wood is cut and the raw wood is exposed. The cedar boards were stained on all sides prior to being laid into place. I expect this deck to last for thirty years. Pete is also excellent with fence replacement. My pressure treated wood deck was replaced with a metal fence over 14 years ago and still looks new. No problems with posts or material to date. Lastly, Pete built a retaining wall at the edge of my property. It was built to be maintained and corrected, should the ground shift and require adjustments. The crew at Legacy Decks and fence are very easy to deal with and Pete ensures that all work is up to his standards. I can't speak highly enough about the quality of the work. And the test of time has proven the durability to me.

However, replacing the deck would mean having to update it to current building codes and permits, which would then mean having to hire an engineer for our small 6' x 14' deck... Bruce came over, took a look and casually said, we can add more supports and fix the deck instead of having to replace it. He walked us through all the repairs he would do, he listened to our concerns and wrote up an estimate that weekend. I choose to hire him because of his straightforwardness in answering all my questions, he was so down to earth and friendly, I felt like he was trustworthy. We went from potentially having to wait months and spend $20,000 on a new replacement deck to spending about $5,000 on repairs and taking considerably less time. They were booked out till about October and would contact us when the time came closer, they did just that and were able to fix the deck in a day. We hired him to come back to build a 2nd retaining wall, his son came out and built it in less than an hour. They used high quality materials, I feel like the wood used will last a long time. A year later, we noticed that the deck was starting to sink and consulted with Bruce. He came over, took a look and figured it was probably the ground material was soft and causing the deck to sink. He offered to fix it, FREE OF CHARGE. It wasn't his fault the ground was soft, it just shows how much integrity he has in his work. Hands down, I would recommend him to anyone. Not a small job, and an emergency one, because she LOVED running around the neighbors' yards. Lucian and his Dad braved the elements on extremely short notice, and built an entire new fence (mostly in the rain) for a great price. They gave me lots of upgrades, like unknotted wood, and thicker footers, and were incredibly fast and efficient. Its beautiful. That should have been enough, but - no - then my about six months later my back neighbors got their own Bernadoodle puppy, and the two dogs decided they didn't want a fence, so my pitty figured out how to pound her head against the boards until they bowed, then get her jaws on the wood, and tear through it. Lucian agreed that metal roof panels attached to the back fence would probably work (either that or an electric cattle fence), so he and his son came back out with the panels, cut them to fit, and spent a day attaching them, which - it turns out - is not as easy as it sounds. Again, quick service and excellent value. This family business, NW Modern, is fantastic, and I highly recommend them. And yes - it appears the metal roof panels are working!
