Came here to try out their tequila and mezcal flights as well as their food. The ambiance is kind of dark, I was able to get the comfy sofa by the window however. This spot seems more of a tequila bar that serves food rather than a restaurant setting. For food, we ordered the fish tacos, shrimp ceviche and taquitos. Their fish tacos were good! That green salsa (avocado/chiles) that comes with it was very spicy. Shrimp ceviche on the other hand was whole pieces of cooked shrimp halved lengthwise with cut up avocado and cucumber. I have had better. The taquitos were okay, the exterior tortillas were a bit overcooked. Was impressed with the selection of tequilas however. Would recommend the anejo flight. I'm not a huge tequila expert, but discovered that I like El Tesoro Anejo, very smooth! Service was attentive and our server went out of his way to explain the difference between the various flights. So, I have no idea who made the decision but going from eclectic antique loungecore velvet loveseats and wingback chairs to cheap dining tables was not a move I would have made. I used to love walking in here. It had the vibe of a funky SoHo lounge in the 90s. I would add it to the roster for a night out and recommend it to others based on that atmosphere. Now, it looks like every other restaurant in Marin. The drinks are still great and that green ghost pepper salsa is fire. Pixels next door is fun for tipsy gaming. read more

I met a friend here for happy hour recently. I checked their happy hour menu on their website beforehand and noticed it's not up to date. We shared an order of taquitos which we enjoyed. It comes with a green sauce that was too spicy for me but my friend loved it. The fish tacos I ordered were delicious. It comes with two good sized tacos. The green salsa was also served with the tacos. I washed it down with a margarita which was tasty. The service was good and staff were friendly. There is a doorway in the middle of the restaurant that goes into the Crepevine restaurant. Their menu is available if you want to order something while dining in Cascabel. read more

I was shocked at the food and the drinks. Shocked because I could not get enough and ate way too much. I had the fish tacos with the ghost pepper sauce which was amazing then ate the shrimp ceviche which I couldn't finish but ate all the shrimp first. Then I had the lavender and strawberry margarita which was the an esculent blend but you could still taste the tequila which made it perfect. Cascabel is one of my favorite bars in San Rafael. I came here various times with friends and always have had a great time. Service has been friendly & fast , and drinks have always been delicious. My favorite time to go is during their Happy Hour, as they have various affordable cocktail options as well as small bites. Their taquitos are my personal favorite, are so good, and come with a nice green salsa and sour cream. My favorite drink has to be the Tamarindo margarita, which I always get with a Chamoy rim. I also love the environment and aesthetic of this establishment, as the low light & modern look, make this place look elegant & classy. What a find during our quick trip to Marin! Luckily for us, it wasn't very busy on the Saturday night that we went and we were able to sit in the area with the couch. Two adults, three teens, and two toddlers! Service was super friendly and kind! I was a little apprehensive about taking the kids to a "tequila bar"' so I appreciated the staff's warm welcome. We asked our waitress for recommendations and she was spot on with the fried fish tacos. The green sauce is spicy and amazing! The babies enjoyed their pasta and butter from next door (crepe place). We got a crossover flight, a variety of tequila, to share, and the spicy margarita was just perfect. The decor is so cheerful and cozy. And the music was awesome! I really wanted to love Cascabel but I've tried it twice and I've decided I am not impressed. Good atmosphere but that is pretty much it. The drinks are weak and expensive, and the food is a whole different story. When a restaurant uses canned cheese sauce in your nachos you know there is a problem. The quesadilla at least had real cheese but had zero flavor. Service is good, the staff really do want you to enjoy your time at Cascabel. Maybe a different chef? Marin citizens really do want good, flavorful food. If the food gets revamped and the drinks get stronger, I will give Cascabel another try. read more

I always come here with my boyfriend for the happy hour margaritas with the taquitos and they are so good. The margs during happy hour are 9$ and I think the Taquitos are 3-5$. Walked in and were not greeted so we were unsure whether to see ourselves or wait to be seated. Finally, we decided to sit down. We were helped a few minutes later. We ordered two margaritas and some nachos. The margaritas were OK, but they nickel and dime you, charging an extra two dollars just for salt on the rim. One of our drinks had a bug in it so we asked them to remake it, when they remade it, there was paper in the drink, so we sent it back and they removed it entirely from the bill. My husband and I absolutely love this place in San Rafael. They have an awesome happy hour which is all week long (including the weekends). So far we've tried their nachos, cascabel fries, and taquitos which are all incredibly tasty. I personally love their pork as it seems really flavorful and melts in your mouth. This is a fun cantina without all the pricey pretense that you find at other Marin restaurants. Their Cascabel Chili Margarita is one of the best margies I've had in a while (and this is coming from a guy who takes his margaritas seriously). I must concede that the service (although friendly) was a bit wonky. Although we were greeted and seated immediately upon arrival, it took a long time for us to get out our first order of drinks. And then all the food that we did order arrived at the same time. It would've been nice to space some dishes out. And the taquitos that we ordered were a bit cold. Really great service, even when they're busy. Cascabel has a pretty good selection of food and alcohol, I'm sure you'll find something that you like. I love getting the nachos, they give you a lot! They also have TVs for sports fans to watch at the bar. My friends and I fell in love with Premier Paloma garnished with dry mango and a lime wedge. Stopped by for drinks on a busy Friday evening. The interior decor is very unique and has a cozy ambience. We got a few margaritas which were decent. For appetizers we got the spicy wings and nachos with grilled chicken. Quite good. This was followed by another round if drinks. I stumbled into this lovely little place, quite by accident. I was hungry and a bit thirsty. I asked the bartender if it was open as no one else was there around 2:45 in the afternoon. He was kind and said yes. I asked which build your own margarita he recommended. He suggested the house, onto which I added the smoked salt and the Hibiscus float. The smoked salt rim is subtle and fine grain salt. It is not a kick you over smoke. The hibiscus was lovely and perhaps a little hot. I really can't recommend that combo enough! The fish tacos were excellent, except I had to send one back for undercooked raw fish. They brought me a well prepared fish taco no charge. My hipster son ordered the quesadilla with steak. It was excellent as well. I would give them 5 stars, if the fish tacos had been perfect the first time. read more

The menu here is quite simple, but it does offer Baja style fish tacos, which, as it turns out, I'm a bit of a connoisseur of. I didn't know anything about the Baja fish tacos at Cascabel -- this was my first time here. They were amazing! And a generous portion too! The fish had a wonder batter that wasn't too heavy and that was fried perfectly golden brown, actually a little darker than I typically see which made the flavor of that crispy batter a little more toasty, which I found to be really nice. This fish was moist and flaky -- perfect! The chipotle aioli was brilliantly crafted, bright and Smokey and not too spicy. The hot Serrano salsa that is served with it was a new one for me, but what a great idea! I can't say that I've ever had Serrano salsa before...it's very hot but that high heat doesn't seem to linger uncomfortably actually. The heat hits then just as you think it might be too hot, it's gone. Yet another brilliant component of the dish. I can tell that whoever wrote this dish knows very well what makes a great Baja fish taco. I will definitely be coming back for these tacos! My girlfriend got the Cancun Chicken Salad which was also really yummy too! I would order that salad again as well! Keep up the great work, you guys! Cheers! read more

We're gonna start and end with the Carne Asada tacos, no question the chicken tacos are fantastic and they taste really good, we love the fact they use cabbage and in general they just taste wonderful. But I digress, we started with the guacamole a wonderful flight of tequila, and two margaritas. Without question everything is handmade and taste to order. The green salsa was tremendous, the guacamole was spiced and flavored Impeccably, but then the Carne Asada tacos arrived. Upon the first bite - a shudder arose, the thoughts of happiness and peace throughout the world entered, the best film, television show, play, comedian performance all wrapped up in two corn tortillas.
