Historically, this was the aging building of a single winery. Now, different vineyards rent space for their casks to age. As the picture shows, it is quite picturesque. We were told they have a banquet room which is used for weddings and other large parties. Unfortunately we didn't get to see the room but were told it was beautiful. In fact, our guide had wanted to have his wedding banquet there recently, but his budget didn't quite allow it. They also do tastings but we didn't partake this time around. We also stopped into Óbidos for a little stroll and lunch. He bought us some traditional chorizo bread on a little whim. Lunch had a nice atmosphere and good service, but the prices were drastically higher than other places we ate on our trip, and the food was a bit plain. The 15th-century building is gorgeous, with all its grounds and visible vineyards. The collection of vintage tiles (Azeitao) throughout the house are beautiful, all very different in motifs and colorations. It is a true treasure. The most interesting part of the tour was also visiting the Bacalhoa vineyard's winery, which holds an enormous amount of aging barrels of Mescal, several ancient olive trees from 300 BC, and the owner's private art exhibition of three leading German turn of the 19th-century artists: Kahn, Hersch, and Lowen. The guided tour was well done, as was the three-wine tasting afterward. When we returned to Lisbon, the driver took us to see the huge (100 meter high) Cristo Rei statue overlooking the new bridge, Tejo River, and bay.
