The 15th-century building is gorgeous, with all its grounds and visible vineyards. The collection of vintage tiles (Azeitao) throughout the house are beautiful, all very different in motifs and colorations. It is a true treasure. The most interesting part of the tour was also visiting the Bacalhoa vineyard's winery, which holds an enormous amount of aging barrels of Mescal, several ancient olive trees from 300 BC, and the owner's private art exhibition of three leading German turn of the 19th-century artists: Kahn, Hersch, and Lowen. The guided tour was well done, as was the three-wine tasting afterward. When we returned to Lisbon, the driver took us to see the huge (100 meter high) Cristo Rei statue overlooking the new bridge, Tejo River, and bay.

We started by booking 2 days, but ended up spending 4 perfect days in Jorge's care. He planned each of our days with such care and artistry. He made us reservations in incredible restaurants, where we were always given the best tables due to his relationships with the owners. He also booked us a private wine tasting/tour and brought us to the medieval city of Monsanto. Every experience he planned for us was amazing! Jorge anticipates everything you need. He took care of all our bookings and tickets. No detail was left to chance. His sense of humor and charm made every excursion special. Spending time in Jorge's care was a wonderful experience for our family of 6. He was incredibly kind and patient with us, even though we were often late and had a medical issue that sidelined us for an afternoon. In addition to being an amazing tour guide, Jorge is a wonderful travel companion. He made our experience one that we will always cherish. I came back here at least 2-3 times because it was a unique and interesting experience. The ginjinha is sweet and syrupy, but not too sweet like other places I've tried. It's also right next door to my favorite pastel de nata store, Nata Portuguesa, so I could get both fixes in one trip. Most people recommend the ginjinha with the cherry but I prefer it without. The drink is filled to the brim and I have shaky hands so it would get sticky and messy sometimes. But the store is prepared and has a little sink inside on the right to rinse off.

When Jamie W and I inadvertently walked by recently on our first evening in Lisbon, I realized we needed to stop and do the same thing. I had next to no memory of it, just that it didn't kill me. Jamie was rather hesitant, but I just showed my typical insolence and walked up to the proprietor behind the counter. The novelty of the machines alone makes for a great Instagram post, but it's Mundo's ambiance, the super friendly staff, and its carefully curated wine selection, that makes this a must while in the city. In between sips, have a go at their great selection of cheeses, and for unique and fun time with a small group of friends, book a wine tasting and get your very own sommelier to tell you about Portugal, its wine regions and rich history. I highly recommend the Port wine experience. When in Lisbon, take a break from the city's crowded tourist spots and stroll down to 'world of wine', you'll be glad you did.

The wine cellar, like the vineyard soil, is unusually impacted by the salty Atlantic air; you'll notice how it has caused unique changes in what once was a solid grey paint on the ceiling and walls.
