Casablanca Brady Street has been a staple for my girlfriends and I for years even before the patio was built. We've always loved the happy hour, hookah, and food. We've enjoyed "sip and paints" here, New Year's Eve, when they offered brunch with crepes, and frequented when they had their vegetarian lunch buffet. Unfortunately, things have changed. 1. Atmosphere The décor hasn't changed. Still sleek, dimly lit, and romantic. The bathroom water wasn't working, and staff seemed aware of it when we mentioned it. How is that sanitary or up to code? Several of the chairs brought to our table were also broken, with bent legs a clear safety issue. It's typically packed on a Saturday like a dance club but it was nearly empty on a Saturday night which may be a reflection of our experience. 2. Service Our waitress was kind and attentive despite handling a large group, but the busboy was unprofessional. He started clearing plates while people were still eating and even asked my husband to reach across the table to hand over other guests' dishes. It made us feel rushed, even though the place wasn't busy. 3. Food My chicken shawarma was greasy, hard, sour, and unseasoned, almost as if the meat had gone bad. The potato balls were cut open which I've never seen and underwhelming. My husband and son's wings were over fried and tough, the spinach artichoke dip was clumpy and poorly blended, and others said the lamb chops were "okay." Honestly, the best thing I ate that night was the pita bread. 4. Overall Experience This used to be our go to for birthdays, Brady Street drag show viewing, and happy hour, but it's gone downhill. Between the sanitation issues, broken furniture, food quality, and rushed service, it no longer feels like "our spot". SO TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION.... Even though I have a collection of bookmarks for Mediterranean and Middle Eastern restaurants I want to try, I rarely partake due to the amount of dishes containing items I won't eat. I recently got out of my comfort zone and visited Casablana for dinner. I ended up ordering the Baked Lamb because it required no modifications. The Baked Lamb is shredded, marinated lamb on a bed of basmati rice with a side of homemade yogurt. I tried the yogurt, but didn't end up using any of it. Both the lamb and rice had good flavor. I wasn't expecting the lamb to be shredded; rather, I assumed it would be something I'd have to cut like with a knife. I feel like you get a good amount of both, but I wouldn't get it again. I wanted to try beef shawarma and a chicken kabob and asked if those could be added as an upcharge for $5 each like you can do if you order a salad as your meal. To my disappointment, I was told no, that the only way I could get those was to order the combo plate for $23 on top of the $25 meal I already ordered. Seems dumb. read more

If you are looking for a night club or a hookah bar, then this may be a good place for you. But don't waste your time if you are looking for a good Mediterranean "resturant"! We went there for dinner around 6pm on a Saturday afternoon and the place was completely empty. Got the combination appetizer which was mediocre at best with felafels that were harder than rock. Chicken shish kabob was tasteless and dry. Ordered medium rare lamb kabob which came well done and beef shawarma which was dry and tasted like pure salt. Waitress was nice and attentive even though she forgot and had to be reminded that our meals came with soup! There is apparently live music which starts at 9pm! This was my first time at Casablanca, but know it has been a longtime Brady Street staple. The combination appetizer platter was mediocre. I ordered tahini shrimp pasta. The lentil soup was served barely lukewarm at the same time as the entree. The pasta came with a tasteless cream sauce, also barely lukewarm. This place was a dump! The doors in the bathroom were all broken; there was one sink that worked sporadically; the paper towels were thinner than the toilet paper and there was no soap! Someone in our group ordered a Caesar salad that never came! Our poor server felt so bad and wanted to make things right but there was only so much she could do. She was a good server. Went here for my birthday last weekend traveled a hour and a half. Very nice venue but epic fail. We were seated promptly but we didn't get a waitress for at least 20 to 25 min. We ordered appetizers they came out with the food. The hookah and all actually came out together so we didn't get to experience the hookah. The food was mediocre the noodles over cooked . Our server never checked in, and it took 50 minutes to get our food, even though the restaurant wasn't busy, literary just us, a table of 4. When the food finally arrived, it was cold and incredibly disappointing. The pita bread was literally frozen, and the lentil soup was so watered down it was practically flavorless. On top of that, everything was overpriced, making the poor quality and service even more frustrating. This review is based on their delivery service during covid-19 stay-at-home period. First of all, their portion sizes are huge! You may find the prices for entrees a bit higher than other fast-food type of Mediterranean restaurants, but trust me - the amount of food you get is real. One entree is definitely enough for two full meals. Flavor wise - nothing to complain. My lamb chops were so meaty, perfectly cooked and juicy. Hubby liked his chicken shawarma too. Came here for a friend's birthday party, a larger group of 8, but had reservations in advance so it was smooth getting in and getting to our table! Mediocre is probably the best word i can use to describe this restaurant. From food, to atmosphere, to service - it is all mediocre. We started from appetizers (which btw, have nothing to do with any Mediterranean cuisine) which were the oiliest things i have tried eating before. The taste was 2-3/5 at best. We decided to go with the Steak Tahini Pasta and the Shawarma Platter and both were so underwhelming, it was kinda sad. The pasta sauce was bad and no Tahini. Thankfully the waitress advised that we add cajun seasoning to the pasta which was literally the only saving grace to this pasta - the steak it self was not bad. The shawarma on the other hand was DRY and poorly seasoned. The rice was sticky and the "salad" was just tomatoes and onions and saddens. The only reason im giving this place a 2 stars is the outdoors seating. It is nice setting outside even though they didn't take care or maintain the patio at all. I dont think we will ever be back here unfortunately. And i would advise staying away if you actually want a Mediterranean food. read more

The service was terrible. The waitress took our drink order, which was only one drink, and came back 20 min later to ask what kind of liquor I wanted in the drink, which I had already told her. She said she had another table with a large group and that was why there was such a long wait, no apology, just that information. When my friend asked about an ingredient in a dish, the waitress responded "I don't know, I have no idea" and left it at that. We found it unusual that the waitress had no knowledge of the food she was serving. We had asked about the soup that was included with the dinner, but it was never brought out. When the food finally arrived after a substantial wait, my friend's order was half wrong. The second waiter who delivered it didn't know what to do but then told my friend to go ahead and eat what he brought out and he would get the item that was missing. After another delay, the original waitress came back and said she wanted to take my friend's plate back, after we had started eating, and bring out the correct order which probably would have taken another 20 minutes. We told her the other waiter was bring out the item which was missing and she left. When the missing item finally arrived, we were almost finished eating and never got the soup. We asked that the soup be provided in a to-go container when we asked for boxes for the leftovers. They brought out the soup in to-go containers but no boxes for leftovers so we asked again for the boxes. The food itself was mediocre at best - all the meat and shrimp were very dry. The only saving grace was the sauce, which was provided in a small amount on the side. We wanted to ask for more sauce, but assumed it would take another 20 minutes to get it, so we didn't. We got the check and were charged extra for the item they got wrong on the initial order and brought out separately at the end of the meal. The other kicker was that they automatically add a 18% gratuity to the bill. When we brought these issues to the attention of the waitress, she said she would send the manager over. Another 15 minute wait, and no manager, but she came back said they told her to take the extra item off the bill. I then requested they take off the gratuity for the exceptionally poor service, which she did. This ended up being a 2 hr dinner for 2 people with no drinks, an incorrect food order, missing food, and a questionable bill. We would have welcomed the chance to talk to the manager to let them know about their poor service in person, but I guess they prefer a customer write a public review rather than addressing the issue at the restaurant at the time of service. I will say I came here as one of my birthday celebrations with a group of friends. The atmosphere was truly great with a local DJ who goes by Ceemore who did not miss all night. He put on a great set of old and new for my group to have fun to. We did not eat but did enjoy hookah and drinks and will say the pricing is not bad at all. This review is based on the catered food we had from Casablanca for an event I played at for NYE. The promoter enlisted the restaurant to have food offerings for the artists as well as guests. We did not get to try the full menu, but out of what we did try, it was delicious and enough to make me want to go to the actual restaurant the next time we visit Milwaukee. The (I'm assuming it was) owner was super nice. I'm not sure if it was the fact that we did not have any of the meat dishes since we are vegetarian, but he loaded up our plates with big large portions to make sure we had enough to eat. The rice was seriously some of the best rice I've ever had. It was fragrant, tasty, and fluffy, the way rice should be. And the hummus? As Armenians, we are very particular about our hummus, and this was really really good. Well made, creamy, and absolutely delicious. I should have gone back for seconds, it was so good. The serving of salad I had - sure it's just salad, but everything was crisp and fresh...sometimes with catering, if a salad is sitting there too long, it starts to look sad and soggy. Not this salad though. It was perfectly fine and if I wasn't hopping on a plane back to NYC the next morning, I would have taken the leftovers with me. To the owner, if you are reading this - thank you for feeding this hungry artist. We will be back to have a proper meal at your restaurant the next time we are in town for a visit. It only took five years in Milwaukee, now we finally decide to get our butt's over to Casablanca. We were not disappointed in the least. It was a perfect pairing of chill lounge and ambiance meets a night out on the town. Only missing piece, which is not a bad thing, is all the crowdedness you would usually run into up in any other venue. First off, we made reservations for four and Casablanca takes reservations, which is solid in my book. So far winning. We were seated upstairs which consists of several tables and an outdoor-ish area plus a bar. Casablanca is a bit shabby sheik lounge inspired by a subtle dark interior with a bit of light sounds tickling your ears. They have all the drinks and a few beers one could ever want. We ordered and ended up having a great meal in general. In particular, the service was spot on and enjoying a hookah between four people was a special treat. We came to this joint on a Saturday around 8. It was relatively busy. It really got a whole lot busier towards the end of our experience. Around 10:30 the DJ came on and started spinning the tunes and the place got a lot more hype. Not too hype though as everyone had a space of their own to enjoy and lounge. I'd come back to Casablanca in a heartbeat. The solid service and atmosphere beg it to be so. I most enjoyed the variety of people in this spot. Firstly, we're from out of town and didn't realize this was a hookah bar. Honestly, the smell was fine. That wasn't the problem. The service was extremely slow. We were seated and waited quite a while before our server even came to the table. We were ready to order and were going to get the Taco Tuesday special. We were informed that this special was not available because the chef hadn't yet arrived (it was 7:30pm)! Our server left for another 15+ minutes to give us time to decide on our order. When they finally came back, they took my order, asked if that would be all, and then left the table without taking my boyfriend's order. He thought it was hilarious. When our server returned she informed me that I couldn't get a side salad with my wrap (the sides are fries or fruit). We noticed small print at the bottom of the menu that says "no substitutions." It also says 18% gratuity will be added to parties over 5 (I think) and all orders after 4pm! Be aware. Thankfully I was able to order a wrap for my bf before our server disappeared again. I went to the bathroom while waiting for our food to arrive. The bathroom floor was covered in toilet paper, smelled like weed, and I unfortunately chose a stall with no toilet paper! While waiting back in the dining area, we noticed that all of the staff members in sight were staring at their phones (server and bartender). When our food finally arrived it was unfortunately super underwhelming :( Absolutely tasteless shawarma. My bf got the "spicy" chicken shawarma and even that one was extremely bland. I have always enjoyed this Brady street location. The atmosphere is great and the food is always delicious. My boyfriend and I decided to grab some dinner since we were in the mood for Mediterranean. We started with the combination platter appetizer which is a must. It's the best way to taste many delicious items. The tabouli salad is outstanding. I could eat a whole bowl of it. The Baba ghanouj and hummus and excellent as well. My boyfriend loves the falafel. For dinner I got the lamb kifta wrap with fruit and my boyfriend got the stuffed grape leaves. My wrap was so good! I actually really enjoyed the fish fry and the non traditional tartar sauce was still super balanced and reminded me of a trip up to shawano for a fish fry with my dad. Let me preface this by stating that as a large group, we understand that service can be affected by a large amount of people and as habitual group diners, we have a high threshold of patience for our dining experience. But unfortunately, in this instance, there was zero excuse for the service we received after having made a reservation for 16 of us on a Sunday night. The manager of the restaurant is who served our group, and to start, things were going well. We established our designated split checks (2 separate checks for the group) with our server, ordered and received drinks, and then shortly thereafter put in our food order. It took around an hour to receive any food, and at that point we had only received about half of our meals. It took another 30 minutes or so to receive the rest - which were either wrong, cold, or missing items like soups/sauces/sides. Our server never came back to check if we needed anything else or to check on our food. The bus boy was sent over to clear dishes, and not only removed drinks that were still being drank, but stuck his hands in them as well. Several people never had an opportunity to dine with the group and had to leave after having been there for 3 hours. The manager brought some shots over for the birthday girl that we were celebrating, I'm guessing to try and mediate the situation, and nonchalantly brushed off the terrible experience we all collectively had. I believe a few items we didn't receive were taken off the check after we were finally able to talk with the manager/server. I'm not sure if this is standard service for Casablanca but my take on the situation is that it's not great for larger groups (even considering we had a reservation). Upon entry there is a sign saying casual attire wasn't welcomed, but didn't seem enforced as many guests were wearing lounge and sneakers. The restaurant had a lot of seating and a lot of outdoor seating which I thought was great considering it's also a hookah lounge. This was my first experience ever in a hookah lounge although I really was coming for dinner. My friends had a good time and there was a server who came around the table frequently to change the rocks. My food experience was very mediocre. I had ordered Beef Kibbe as my appetizer, it comes in a portion of 3 on top of salad. It was basically ground beef heavily coated in cracked wheat and deep fried so it was a little dry. My entree BEEF SHISH KABOB, I asked for the meat to be medium and it came out well done. However it took so long for our food to come out I didn't want to ask for a remake.
