Came here during lunch on a Friday, the place was pretty empty for 1:30pm. It's located on a very busy block; I am lucky I found parking out front. My cashier was friendly. There are no birria tacos on the menu, so I settled for some chicken tacos. It tasted like mixed thigh meat that didn't taste too fresh to me. I prefer white meat. Something was off. I appreciate I was given 3 sauces, enough for each taco. The place was clean but I feel like it could be more festive.. maybe add more color decor to the wall to create a cozier ambience. read more

Truly authentic Mexican food in every way (including the chips which is a super part of a true Mexican meal). Lots of variety (don't sleep on the adobaba pork). I kind of want to give it 4.5 stars because of how often they mess up our delivery order (9 out of 10 times) but I can't drop them to 4 starts because the food is too good. read more

Can't say enough good things about this place. Both locations honestly. But just speaking about the location since it's closer to me. This is an express location so not a full restaurant. There are seats and tables inside. But only a couple and it's not ideal for bigger groups. The food is always good. Had various tacos, chicken and steak quesadillas. I would the cecina and the chicken tinga on tacos and quesadillas. These were excellent but that meat is so juicy. The pricing is somewhat decent for the area. Costs are going on but it's still delicious and quality has not gone down. I repeat quality has not gone down. The only issue is parking and it's a high traffic area on the corner of Stillwater Ave and West Main Street. But every now and then you can find parking around the area. I ordered the vegetarian burrito (minus guacamole) with a side of rice and beans + a glass of tap water. You order at the counter (+1 for the Yelp discount of 10% at the time of this review as a check-in offer) and take a seat then they bring it out to you. It was arranged beautifully and smelled great. After diving in to my fiber-filled friend in a ferocious frenzy (SWIDT?) I noticed I was lacking the water so got up and asked for it. Seated again, I began to bravely apply the hot-hot sauce to everything and it's momma. Dying in agony / pleasure / pain / delight I all-but licked the plate clean. Very good food, convenient location (it's off of a main street) and there is usually street parking here. When I asked where my order is "Jenny" said the system went down and it wasn't ready yet and asked if I still wanted it. When I tried to ask what happened and why it wasn't ready she was extremely rude and said she had a lot of calls. After asking for the manager's name she hung on me. I am a frequent customer to this restaurant and this specific location. My husband and I went for dinner as we have many times before, and were humiliated and received very poor service. I had simply requested a change of table due to the fact that we were sat very close to another couple. One of the workers, a man that showed us to our seats, responded that "a table is a table." I think the key word here is "authentic". I grew up with authentic Mexican food made by my Mexican grandmother and this is the closest I've found since. I used to get the two tacos for a lite lunch, which are great, but don't make my same mistake because you'd be missing out on the best rice and beans I've had since moving to the tri-state area. The rice is so soft and moist it almost melts in your mouth and the beans are so creamy and rich that it's a taste sensation when the two meet. I now order the steak burrito and it is a great value considering you get guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo with a side of rice and beans for $7.50. Then they add in two little cups of green and red sauce to really kick the flavor in the crotch. I've only ever had it delivered so I can't speak to their service and decor but the delivery has always been effective and that's all that one can ask. Highly Overrated Mexican Food, But Good for Stamford, CT If you follow the reviews on this site, you would get the impression that Casa Villa delivers outstanding Mexican food. While I will give them a best in city rating. That's, unfortunately, not saying very much. Great Mexican food in Stamford is an oxymoron for some reason. Casa Villa has a lot going against it -- starting from the rather rough location with very limited, nearby street parking, a small dining room, no booze, and a tiny, line-style "kitchen" that's basically a short order grill. They do their best with what they have -- a limited range of ingredients (there are too many pre-prepared and reheated items) and very limited resources -- no charcoal or gas fire grill, for example. Yes, they do an amazing job with what they have, but this is not great Mexican food. Those who think so, undoubtedly have a limited range of experience in Mexico or areas of this country that truly celebrate the diverse range of Mexican cuisine. Casa Villa is vastly better and more authentic than Taco Bell -- but who would make such a lame comparison. It is even far more authentic than Boxcar Cantina in Greenwich -- a pretentious, overrated, and overly bland outpost. And, it may even be the best Mexican food in Stamford, but that's just not saying much. read more

I have been eating here for a year now and tried many menu items, and a few things I noticed. It is authentic mexican food, but it's not consistent. You can be served incredible juicy and tender, but can also get dry and bland on occasion. But overall, it is a place I go back to. Mexican in stamford, this is it. If there was a Chipotle, I would probably still come here more. More authentic mexican flavors. Food: Tacos are the big order here. Al Pastor with the pineapple and meat actually go very well. They use 2 layers on the tacos, which is too much I feel since it makes the taco too dry when it's in your mouth. The food is not always consistent. Taco's can range from incredible, juicy meat and tender. But I have also more than once got dry and somewhat bland. Shrimp Salad is very good, I recommend it. Seasoning has been consistent and very tasty. The whole fried Porgie is very good also, use with the red sauce. Although if you don't like fish, stay away. Comes with rice and salad, the flavors come together well. Service: Good service for a non-fine-dining restaurant, there's a seating area where the waiter is the same person taking phone orders and working the cashier. It may not look like much from the outside; and parking is difficult (you'll need a serious K turn to park on the other side of the street) but the food is incredible. First off - Pollo al horno is just about the most incredible tasting chicken EVER. The chicken tacos are authentic - chicken, onion, cilantro and squeeze of lime. Amazing. Rice and Beans - though fairly common are exactly what you'd want. There is zero mystery; good food prepared perfectly! I had some time to kill before grabbing a train back up to Boston, so I hopped on Yelp to find a lunch spot. Casa Villa is fairly close to the train station (need a car, though). The area isn't the greatest, but it's fine during the day (probably fine at night as well). As others have noted, you'll need to find street parking - street is fairly busy. It seems like this place is primarily take-out at lunch time (I was the only one sitting down to eat). The waitress suggested that I try a Jarritos Tamarind soda. Tasty! I debated between ordering the 1/4 chicken with rice & beans and the taco platter. I ended up going with the taco platter, ordering chicken, al pastor (pork) & bistec (beef). In hindsight, I wish that I had asked for blackbeans instead of re-fried pinto. The tacos were very good. All three had a kick. I loved the pork also had pineapple. A satisfying meal, and I'll return if I have some time to kill in Stamford. Doesn't compare with Taqueria el Amigo up in Waltham, MA, but still a good option. read more

I came here approximately a week ago. All in all, my chicken burrito was all right. It was so oily that it oozes out of my plate. I've tried better. Although, the beans and rice were a bit better. My S.O. ordered the chicken quesadilla and it tasted amazing. There was no complains about that. The portions were more than adequate, but mostly every Latin American restaurant is like that. My only complaint is the waitress that served us first. She looked like she didn't want to be there serving us. Maybe she was having a bad day, but it made everything unpleasant. This place is amazing! I sometimes eat here twice a week and find myself craving it fequently. Their tacos al pastor is amazing, my fiance is a big fan of the chorizo tacos. Hands down the best fried bananas I have ever had, and I have had a lot. They are called maduras, I have not tried the fried green bananas, not so much into that in general. The food is simple and fresh. It's a small place with about 6 tables that seats about 20 plus a few at a counter. Neighborhood is a bit sketchy see below.... THE NEIGHBORHOOD: kind of sketchy with people sitting on the stoop just up the hill from the place. Probably smoking something weird. We Would not come at night as there is no parking lot and it's not likely that a few girlfriends would be comfortable walking there. THE ATMOSPHERE: It's kind of like a very clean pizza place where you can tell that they put some pride into it. FYI - There are no table cloths, and they use paper napkins and styrofoam water cups. They accommodated our requests with no trouble. We enjoyed it and are rating it primarily for the food, cleanliness, lively Mexican music, and authenticity. But the neighborhood is a little sketchy. Casa Villa has very good, authentic Mexican food. This place is like the taquerias I loved to eat at while growing up in Los Angeles. The fire roasted chicken with rice and beans is my favorite dish. The tacos al pastor are my next favorite item on the menu followed by the chicken enchiladas. They even have refried beans....I can't say that about many of the other so called Mexican restaurants in Stamford. There are four or five tables and a counter with bar stools to each at. Recently went here with my friend. It's quite small and quiet here, regardless of the continuous traffic outside, which makes it so much better.
