I really can't say much about Casa that hasn't already been said, but I still feel the need to give a review. We have patronized Casa for many years. For long time fans, remember when they had the second, smaller store on Grant? We tried Netflix and it quite frankly sucked. Any other video outlet pales in comparison. Yes, there is popcorn everywhere but that's what we love about it. We are able to get new release Blu-Rays every time we go. No wait like Netflix.The staff will happily empty the outside box for you if you ask for a title. Something you want to see that no one else has ever heard of? Chances are, they'll have it. My daughter had to give written reports about plays, ballets, operas, etc. for her drama class. My husband and I looked at each other and said, "Casa". We absolutely love this place and hope that it will be around for a long, long time. read more

Netflex, Redbox etc... These are good examples of technologies pros and cons. Their quick, easy, but lack the ever diminishing beauty and just plain fun of walking through aisles of new, old, and used movies, discovering a cover that entices the eye and compels you to pick it up and view a movie you've never heard of. As far as I know, this is the best video rental store in existence. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, but the selection really sets it apart. Suppose you want to rent the newest release and a VHS of the best hockey fights of the 1970s...They would probably have both available at a very low cost. I have never been to Casa before this weekend. As a former Blockbuster employee we would send people there, but I never needed to go. I was surprised it was so empty for a Friday night, and since we were under the delusion that they had EVERYTHING we were sadden when they didn't. But the experience was still very rewarding and I intend on going more often. (Tuesday and Wednesday are buy one get one free.) I also was very impressed with the sign stating that you can browse online and reserve your movies to have them picked up when you get there. There is just so much charm about this place from the free popcorn ( that I didn't think was stale like some reviews) The children's theater and the play hut ( which also wasn't as creepy as it has been portrayed in photographs.) I loved that they had a computer to look up that one scary movie about dolls that you were thinking of, or whatever your heart desires. And I notice the small stuff like the lights on the stairs and the theater seats upstairs. I took away a star because though one guy was great, one was just a sardonic douchebag, and I'm not sure if that's what you should except at an independent video store or if he just doesn't understand customer service. read more

I have recently re-fallen in love with Casa after a few years of not going in. Not really sure why we just got busy and Netflix became more convenient. But a few weeks ago we decided to check it out again because I had been considering cancelling my Netflix membership. We were surprised at how much we enjoyed walking the aisles again and munching on popcorn while deciding what to watch. So now we're hooked and have made it almost a weekly event and to seal the deal not only do they have some really great beer on tap but they carry Abita root beer! If you haven't tried it you must! When I moved here from Washington, DC I thought I would never find another video store as good as my beloved Video Vault. Lo and behold there was Casa Video, arguably one of the best video stores in the country, located right here in our humble trail dust town. Aside from the ridiculously large and amazing film selections, Casa Video has a knowledgeable staff to help you find that rarity you just won't find anywhere else. With the addition of their recent Film bar with some of the tastiest brews (hops and beans) in town it's a little piece of nirvana. I've never used Redbox or Netflix, insisting on supporting local businesses and with Casa Video, I'll never need to use them. read more

Its hard to believe there is still a video store anywhere. Not only is this one but its a local gem, it is huge and has anything you would ever want to find new, old, and in between. The only reason I do not give them 5 stars is because it is a little pricey ($3.86 for a rental) but it is definitely an awesome place. when my boyfriend casually suggested we go out and rent some videos, i had to stop for a second and ask "wait, video stores still exist? don't you have netflix?" of course, i forgot that boyfriend is a cranky old man in training and hates technology. so, i begrudgingly agreed to go to the so-called "video store" -- and was pleasantly surprised! Casa Video is awesome :) they have just about any movie you could ask for -- in DVD and VHS format (i know, who still uses VHS? oh well). They also run different promotions, such as 2 for 1 rentals on certain days, and a "film festival" where they list off staff picks (while i was there it was black and white movies -- very cool to see the staff members choices!) We rented ALOT of movies while i was there -- mostly zombie movies, our favorite genre. They had ALL the obscure movies I was looking for -- including Fulchi's "Zombi", which i didn't see on my first lap through the shelves and was very upset that i couldn't rent it. but i was thrilled when I found it (finally!) Staff is really nice and helpful too, they directed us to the sections where we could find weird subtitled films and exploitation films (certain horror films are considered exploitation, i guess), and even gave us free popcorn! yaay! The only bad/weird thing is that what you see on the shelves is what they have. If it's not there, it means its rented. So, there are basically no backup copies of any movies (with the exception of new releases), so it's every movie hound for themselves. As a bonus (for me) they had just about every B-horror movie i could dream of -- including many I had never heard of! I might have to ditch netflix for Casa Video when I move out there................maybe. read more

Casa Video is a treasure. The variety of DVDs and videos they have is immense. I almost went crazy renting, but showed massive restraint and left with only 3 movies. (more than I was planning to get.) The guy at the info counter was very helpful. I used to rent there all the time and just haven't rented anything in ages, but going back it was such a lovely experience that I think I'll start renting more regularly again. read more

The business itself is a really nice idea and has a good selection of both videos and craft beer. The bar side of the business is great. The people working there are nice and friendly. However, the business super suffers from the video renting side. The men who work this side are rude, and act like it's an inconvenience to answer any questions or even provide simple help. Despite being one of the only video rental places in Tucson, I literally don't want to go back because of how awful the customer service is. read more

Oooohh... my 100th review! Yay! I was wondering who my 100th review was going to be. Lucky Casa Video! :-) (Whoo-hoo 100 reviews in exactly one year!) I love this place. Honestly, this is one of the major gems of Tucson. Their selection of videos is HUGE. They have free lip-smacking delicious popcorn to eat while perusing their extensive selection of videos. Their foreign movies collection is the best within the city of Tucson (as far as I know) and can only be beat by online retailers like Netflix. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, you get 2 or 1. Awesome! And of course, their prices are reasonable, which is another plus. Their location is good with lots of parking. The only major negatives for me are the following: Many times when I've checked out DVDs, they are heavily scratched and on many occasions have ended up skipping when I bring them home. There've been a couple of times where I couldn't finish the movie due to the bad scratching-- that's pretty annoying. Their movies are almost never organized in the right order so it takes a long time to find something. Sometimes the customer service isn't that great-- as in sometimes they are rude, or sometimes they don't seem to want to help the customers. Usually it's not a problem though. Overall, this place is great and highly recommended! Out of all the movie stores I've ever been to, this place is the best experience! read more

If you cannot find a video anywhere here you go. They have a huge selection and are local which makes you feel good about going there. However if you run a video past late expect huge fees. I stopped going here after turning in a dvd 4 days overdue and paying for 20 dollars in fees. I thought to myself that I just paid two months worth of netflix for a few days over and I have never gone back. They do have very knowledgeable staff who very much look the part of indie movie geeks. If you are uncomfortable with men in tight skater pants, piercings and tats all over you probably won't like it very much. read more

I can't believe how many people on here are griping about Casa Video's late fees. Seriously? They charge you $.99 a day (might be more for new releases). Blockbuster used to claim your firstborn child if you returned a movie late. Casa's just extending your rental period for a slightly higher price. If you really truly cannot remember to return videos for weeks at a time, then please, I beg you, go to Netflix. I don't want you disappearing for two months with the movie I want to rent. As for Casa Video itself, this is the best video store I've ever been to, and I've been to some great video stores. If it's available on DVD, they generally have it on DVD, and if it's not, they have it on VHS. The few times I couldn't find a movie, I asked at the front desk and discovered I'd been looking in the wrong section. For the most part the employees know right where everything is, which is mind-blowing considering the number of movies they have. And, while the hyper-organized nature of the place can be a little disorienting, it's nice to be able to browse the "Giant Monsters" section. Or the "Derek Jarmin"section. Or the "Documentaries Addressing Social Issues" section. You could have a pretty amazing scavenger hunt without leaving the store. What else.... The DVDs are generally in good condition. The employees are all helpful, kind movie nerds. There's an unexpectedly vast soda selection. And free popcorn. And a video game section. And a porn section. They're open until 1am, and you can return movies right up until then on the day they're due. There's an after-hours drop box. There's some kind of rent-by-mail program, which I've never tried. And they link your account to your driver's license, instead of giving you another card to carry around. All told, Casa Video is one of the best businesses in Tucson, and one of the best video stores in the country. We're lucky to have it. read more

One of the most comprehensive collections available at one location, the staff is well versed in the film arts & make excellent recommendations. They are also delightfully quirky! Their rates are low, as are their late fees which we don't get too often but don't ever mind paying, plus Sunday and weekday deals are great, ensuring that we can rent films that are current, classic, and even esoteric for a really affordable price.
