I always have fun here when I'm in town. Love the music, love the bartenders, and love the atmosphere.

We've been wanting to branch out and find another bar to hang at and decided to give this place a try. I'd been here years ago when it was Shamrocks and had a fun night with friends, but only once and never again. So when he brought me here I was down. The security guy was cool and not one of those meat heads that have zero personality so that was a great first impression. The place is pretty big with most of the space being a stage with a lot of lighting and equipment. There's also a nice sauce dance floor and plenty of tables and chairs spread throughout. They have tv's playing videos for whatever music is playing at the time with a ticker at the bottom of the screen informing you of their weekly schedule. They have an edm night, a Latin night and even a karaoke night which, just our luck was the night we went! The karaoke setup was nice and convenient with you being able to scan a QR code to get access to their song list and setting up your turn from your phone. The bartenders were quick and friendly enough, getting through orders and continuing to make drinks for everyone. I've already told a few friends that we will have to come back and actually get on stage to sing next time.

They accept all people as so many different people were there from gay, straight, black, brown, white, transgender ect.. Just gotta say dont come with an attitude they will not play. The man standing outside the entrance as I walked up asked me if I was ready to dance. I kind of thought the dance shoes I was carrying in my hands were a pretty good clue, but maybe he was just making conversation. That's how serious dancers recognize a kindred spirit - by the shoe bags or dance shoes in our hands; we never dance in street shoes or walk around the parking lot in our dance shoes. When I said "Yes!" he followed it up with "You salsa good?" Oh yeah, Honey - I "salsa good" This was my first time at La Movida and I was very impressed. Yes, I know you're looking at the map and shaking your head saying to yourself "It's down off Union for heaven's sake." Well, get over it. La Movida has a large well lit parking lot with signs announcing that there is 24 hour video surveillance, and I felt perfectly comfortable parking and walking in (and out at the end of the night) by myself. Inside, there is a surprisingly large dance floor with ample space around it to hold tables and chairs for quite a few dancers or music lovers (The space holds 1150 people). The club seems to play mostly salsa, bachata, and cumbia music, but that could have just been the night I was there. I danced for several hours, spinning like crazy every chance I got, and my knees didn't hurt afterwards so I'm declaring the dance floor very danceable. I've heard they have a lot of live bands that play there, too!! The club is attractively decorated and lit. I was particularly fascinated with the colored lighting behind the bar. It took me a while to realize that the lights were slowly cycling through colors from blue and green to purple and red, but in such a subtle way that it was not immediately obvious what was going on. The effect was actually very well done, even upscale. The bartenders and servers were very courteous and friendly, and the drink prices not unreasonable. I would absolutely go back! Girl's gotta get her dance on!!

She must have trained them too. Shame on them. As it was, the drinks were way overpriced so we only stayed for one round. This place has only been in business for a few months, I don't see them staying in business very long with a rude and corrupt manager like that woman was.

The music was great, however, getting drinks was a real problem. My friends and I posted up at one of the tables in the middle of the floor. This server chick came up and asked us for our drink orders. We gave our orders and while waiting for the drinks, homegirl came and gave us the receipt for the three drinks and said she would separate the tab if need be. The total was $21 and some change. My drink was $8 so I gave her a 20. My other two friends used cards. When it came time for homegirl to bring our change back, she gave me $10. I ended up tipping her two bucks. Pretty sure my friends tipped. It took a good 15 minutes for us to get our drinks that we had already cashed out on. It wasn't even busy, the place was not packed. When we finally got our drinks one had a bug in it. Anyway, a few mins later, it hit me that homegirl took her gratuity from the $20 I gave her. My change should have been $12 not $10. So, on an $8 drink she made $4. Okay sis, the real question is, how many people are you doing this to?? Hustle on I guess. I won't be coming back.

We were able to find ample parking in the lot on a Saturday around 2pm. We walked into the bar and it took me a while for my eyes to adjust from it being so bright outside and dark inside, but you walk right into the middle of the bar with a large bar top and booths around the room. We walked to the restaurant side, which was super cute, but we went to the patio. The patio was super cute as well, with plants all over and there were giant fans for when it gets really hot outside. Our server was awesome too, and I mean awesome because when she came to take our orders I had seen a very tiny very pregnant little black and white cat and I asked about her. Our server was AMAZING in telling me that the local cats are pretty taken care of because she could tell I was concerned and distracted LOL We put in our orders: sister's favorite is the NY Steak French Fry Salad, husband got the Bacon Avocado Pepperjack burger, and I couldn't decide so I got the Basque lunch setup. All the food was awesome. My different dishes were delivered as they were ready and there was so much! The basque lunch is a good value as well in my opinion:) Everyone was very happy with their food and drinks. The restroom was small but worked just fine and pretty clean. I will definitely be back to try more things from the Pyrenees Cafe huge menu and awesome staff (and cute kittens).

This restaurant is a Bakersfield staple and the ambiance is a true reflection of that. The food was fantastic, had the tritip sandwich, probably in my top 3 pastrami sandwiches in town.
