I totaly understand that some people get refused entry if they are known as trouble makers or if people are too drunk - but, I am not a trouble maker and last night when I went to the Grapes I wasnt very drunk either! But last night, me and my mother went to walk in to join the rest of our group of family and friends and the bouncer decided that I (ME?!?) was too drunk to come into the Grapes. But apparently, once a bouncer has made a decision then thats that. It doesnt matter if your drunk or not, because thats not the decider on whether you get in or not, the decider is whether the meat head at the front door is going to be nice or if he's going to act like an absolute twat. I was a bit shocked - Ive never been stopped from going inside a pub beforeand its unheard of in Stafford! Once my friends and family heard what was happening they did all leave, and I got told that as each person left they informed the bouncer of how unhappy they were and how unlikely they all were of returning for a long time. Ive had good nights at the grapessure I have, but that was because of the people I was with and had nothing to do with the fact that we were at the Grapes. Last night has put me off entirely. I doubt I'll go back.

There is no air-con, this is a massive disadvantage as the bar and dancefloor get extremely hot to the point where people are absolutely dripping with sweat (not very pleasant), there is a smoking area outside, which is usually chocka-block later on - probably due to the lack of air-con! There is a lot of security so very little trouble. Nice decor and a good range of drinks. £2 to get in after a certain time (9pm?), often good live bands during the week, and a decent range of drinks. If you don't like a sauna, avoid the dancefloor!

I'd been in here once or twice before just for a quick drink before heading somewhere else but didnt get the feel for the place (it was very quiet then) but last night was 'folk night'. It was really lovely, people were just sat around with their instruments and all did their little thing (the guy on the fiddle obviously knew what he was doing so played along to most of the songs). There were no microphones or anything. It was all low key and very welcoming. Aparently this folk night is on every Tuesday and if its good weather they move out to the beer garden and play & sing there instead. Theres a wide selection of drinks available, although, when I say a wide selection of drinks I actually mean ales. Dont expect any fancy cocktails. If you dont want ale your left with the choice of a few spirits. Outside the front door theres a sign saying something like 'NO pool table, NO sky sports, NO cocktails, ------ TOWN THAT WAY!' I think thats all you need to know to get a firm idea of what this place is like :) They also serve food, nothing fancy: chilli, cottage pie, curry, fish & chips, salads, jackets etc. any meal is £6.50 Food is only served between 12-2 and 6-9. Afraid I havnt tried it yet but as soon as I do I'll update this review!

It was a choice between here and #1 Coffee..I'm so glad I came here. The venue was large and spacious with tassled lanterns hanging down from high ceilings with bare floor boards and random art on the walls. The kitchen was open and quite frankly apart from the multitude of cushions I had to move to sit..I liked the venue here.. The breakfasts contained your usual but with some Mexican twists in some. I also saw burgers and tapas on the menu. Anyway I rarely go for veggie stuff ..I think its because I spent 16 years of my life as one.. but rather than choosing my usual eggs benedict I went for this sweetcorn pancake with pit beans, Avocado..tomatoes with a poached egg. My other half had the Lounge eggs with smoked salmon and hollandaise sauce. The coffee looked good so I chose a iced coffee with hazlenut syrup ans himself a flat white. The coffees were well made and the food arrived shortly afterwards. Both dishes were presented nicely and mine tasted superb. The pancake was really dense so it was surprisingly filling..the splashes of salsa brought the dish to life with the creamy avocado and beans. I tasted the hollandaise sauce in my partners dish and it was sublime. Overall the food was perfect in my eyes and the coffee was fairly priced. The staff were really lovely too..they didn't ask how are food was though which was my only gripe but Would certainly come back here again.

Let me start by saying this: I don't walk into a Wetherspoons expecting fine dining or 5-star…read moreservice. I understand it's budget food and budget service -- but even with that in mind, what I experienced yesterday was utterly appalling and has compelled me to write this review out of sheer disbelief and disgust. We entered and had to sit at one of the only clean tables in the place. Every other table was covered in dirty plates, overflowing glasses, and piles of rubbish. This wasn't during a busy rush -- the place was nearly empty, with staff standing around behind the bar clearly able to see the state of things and doing nothing about it. I ordered a drink on the app and, despite very obviously looking under 25 (I'm 24 but regularly get mistaken for a teenager), I wasn't ID'd. The same thing happened again when I ordered a second alcoholic drink with my food -- different server, still no ID check. So clearly, the 'Challenge 25' policy isn't something they actually follow -- until it becomes convenient for them. Later, I ordered two cocktails via the app. A staff member finally came over and asked for ID. I explained I didn't have it, but that I'd already been served alcohol twice during this visit. She refused to hand over the drinks -- which is fair, that's on me. But refusing to refund me? That is nothing short of daylight robbery. Hiding behind a "no refund on app orders" policy to justify keeping money for a product you won't provide is not only bad practice -- it's disgraceful. When I asked to speak to a manager, things somehow got worse. The person who came over said "I'm not the manager, but I'm the closest you will get" was shockingly rude, confrontational, and downright unpleasant. Aggressive tone, absolutely no professionalism, and frankly, they didn't even look like they'd had a wash that day. If this is the person in charge of setting an example for the rest of the staff, it's no wonder the place is in such a state. Basic customer service was completely absent. You'd think that being polite, approachable, and clean would be minimum expectations for public-facing roles, but apparently not here. I left feeling angry, ripped off, and genuinely disgusted by how little care or respect was shown. I never thought I'd say this, but this experience has lowered the bar for Wetherspoons even further. Avoid this location if you have any shred of self-respect -- or at least until management is overhauled and staff are taught how to treat paying customers.
