The Zanzibar in Stafford is terrible. The entrance isnt at all welcoming, the paint is peeling off…read morethe MDF sign, theres gum all over the tiled floor, and now (because they dont have a proper smoking area) half of the front is sectioned off for people to come out and smoke. The inside is just as bad, the floor is dirty and sticky and everything looks old. I heard a few months ago that it was going to get refurbished but theres still no sign of that happening. The drinks are quite cheap, which is super, because there is no way you could stay in there unless if you got super drunk. I have had one or 2 good nights in there but that was due to the people I was with, not the venue of the party. It is the biggest club in Staffordbut size isnt everything.

Zanzibar is and has been the biggest nightclub in Stafford for a while. It has some competition,…read morenamely from Chicago Rock Cafe (Now Love2Love) just round the corner, but its sheer size compared to the town means that it won't go out of business anytime soon. However, this also means it doesn't have to spend grand amounts of money on décor either. The carpets are generally sticky along with bars and tables. But the clientèle don't care, and nor did I up to point. But trying to dance (I use the term dance loosely!) on a sticky floor where your feet don't move easily isn't very comfortable. Prices are very favourable with Friday Nights being a 99p special night with drinks at 99p. On Tuesdays, its Student night and drinks are weirdly more expensive at £1.25. Toilets have attendants and could do with a refit, but it isn't too bad for the lads. Zanzibar is going through a refit soon and changing its name to Escapade; which is probably to counter the refit and re-branding of Chicago Rock round the corner, its only real competition. This place isn't excellent, but it isn't somewhere to avoid like the plague either. Worth a try to make up your own mind, but I give it 3 stars.

I would think its one of the only places in stafford were you breath in more smoke standing inside as well as out as the place is designed to be one great big smokefilled atmosphere under unmbrellas. I thought going home stinking of smoke was a thing of the past? Oh and I thought you had to be 21 to get in? or have they lower it so old men can purve over skiply clad 17 year old with fake I.D pretending to be grown up and binge with people as old as there parents? Yuck!

It was a bit bland though, no seasoningbut not bad! On any normal night the prices are average, maybe slightly more expensive than most places in Stafford. On a Saturday, unless if you come here early on just dont plan on going, it is stupidly busy and the que to get in is huge! Tuesday nights are brilliant in there, drinks are super cheap (like everywhere on a Tuesday - Student night) The interior is fun, its got a big enough area to dance, the DJ upstairs is easy to get to, theres a brilliant outdoor terrace and there are comfy seats everywhere with loads of cushions. There are fluffy white curtains. The way its set out it kind of looks like a mix between a spanish bar and a pimps bedroom, I wouldnt be surprised to find a revolving bed there. I love it though. I'd say its one of the better places in Stafford and well worth a visit (especially on a Tuesday night!)

My suggestion was actually a hit. I did my indecisive alterego very proud. There are many quality club nights organised by the Lost and Found name and this was no exception. Dance off, being £1 entry, sold it for me. Doubles for £3, a range of sambucas £1.50? Messy. Dance off saw a battle between three major DJs, strangerways, good vibrations and juicy DJs playing a mix of Joy Division, The Temptations and Dr Dre. Amazing combination. Ruby Lounge is renown for it's quality club nights and live music. The venue is perfect, with an adequate dance floor, a stage to match and plenty of seating on a slightly raised level for a chill out. Another great Northern Quarter location that needs to become a regular thing for me.

I think this might be a strip club. In fact I'm pretty sure. Well, it wasn't when I was in the Ruby…read moreLounge last night for a Lost and Found gig which is why I felt comfortable to take my boyf in with me. The gig was billed as The Cribs Aftershow but it was basically just a gig- most of the spectators were either in one of the four bands, looked like they should be or were girl groupies who were way too impressed with themselves that they were getting backstage. The sofas and high backed armchairs in the main bar area were nice touches, there were a few mirror balls around too. Plus velvet curtains - hello, strip club? Then you turn to the grimy stage area with the big grill up between the bands and the crowd. That said, no one went past the pillar anyway. Too cool to stand right at the front. Alright drinks prices - get some of their cheap vodka mixers or flavoured sambucas otherwise you'll run out of money quickly. After the bands they had Gareth Brooks from Xfm DJIng but we didn't end up staying.
