For me this place sits above Wetherspoons "fancy" burger standards, but not pipping local competitors at the market vaults- that said, this is the third time now I've appeared at the market vaults to see that the kitchen is closed for a week- I'm not sure if this is just my bad luck, so we came here.
I'm under the impression that this place has been bought out by the swan that sits across the road (bar and restaurant, not a permanently perched angry bird). Mostly because I was told, and the food is pretty good. Decor is fine, quite a lot of steps, but still a small amount of seating at the front of the restaurant that would be suitable for wheelchair access.
Waiters were very friendly, and quick enough after a short delay waiting to be seated. We both had hankerings for burgers, he went for the "bear hot" and I went for the chicken Katsura burger.
My chicken was well cooked and moist, but he wasn't asked how he wanted his burger cooked, despite this he was perfectly happy with his. I could tell it wasn't as hot as the menu implied, as he didn't get the hiccups, so probably not your jam if you want super duper spicy. The coating on my burger didn't seem like Panko (it did say that on the menu, I'm not just being pedantic) but tasty regardless.
It cost more than the similar meal would have done with our originally intentioned destination, but still reasonable.
And the bill came with gummy bears (bears, geddit?) overall, although it isn't my fave place in the town I'd certainly come back. read more
