I booked this place through Monastery Stays but should have booked directly through their website to save money. It used to be but is no longer a monastery. The staff speak impeccable English.
This is a no-frills place. No TV in the room, but there is a common TV room. The elevator is slow, but hey, at least they have one and it works!
There is a vaporetto stop right in front of the hotel which is so convenient for going to Ferrovia train station (just 1 stop away). For several other tourist destinations requiring other vaporetto lines, one just has to walk less than 10 minutes to the Piazzale le Roma and diagonal from there to the depot of all the other vaporetto line stops.
There is free breakfast every morning which consists of all you can consume on the spot: bread, croissants, espresso, pastries, jam, tea, cereal, etc. It is hosted in a nice dining room with staff to bus the tables.
If you are leaving luggage after checking out, they'll offer some hallway space for you. It's not superbly secure, but it's a popular option.
Also, it's unusual that they ask you to leave the hotel key with the front desk whenever you go out, and they'll return it when you come back- probably to prevent loss of it. I wouldn't leave any valuables in the room (there is no in-room safe) just in case there is any mistake in re-issuing the key.
I had no issues whatsoever with mosquitoes. Then again, I kept my window shut. read more
