This is a beautiful hotel. Supposedly going to be taken over by the Four Seasons in the next couple of years so I can't wait to see what they do with the property. But for now, it's a luxury Marriott property and it's beautiful and old and luxurious. Sure, some things in the rooms are old (like the electricity) but they're well appointed, lush and very very pretty in an old world, elegant sort of way. If you're charmed by old hotels with large lobbies and piano music in the bar - then this is a great spot for you. Plus, location-wise, it's directly beside the Doge's Palace and St. Mark's Basilica so you can't do better than that! The concierge are excellent and made us reservations for dinner, gondola rides, checked prices on jewelry and organized an airport taxi upon request. Very helpful and willing to go above and beyond to answer questions and take care of guests. Check-in was easy and we had no issues with billing upon check-out. We had early check-in, a complimentary upgrade, free breakfast on their rooftop overlooking the water, and late checkout. They took wonderful care of us and the beds were plush and comfy and rooms were quiet! Highly recommend. read more

A historic hotel with beautiful views and superior service. When you walk into the hotel, the lobby will amaze you as you look at the beautiful and detailed decor. After you check-in, the receptionist will walk you to your room and give you a quick history of the magnificent building. The hotel still uses a turn key that is modified with modern day technology which will light up a green light when you unlock your room. You deposit your key with the concierge when you go in and out of the room so you don't have to carry the heavy key all day. There are three buildings so if you are in building three (left), then all rooms start with a 3 no matter what floor. If you are in building 2, then your room will start with a 2. This is the epitome of luxury! I have stayed at a fair share of five star hotels in Europe, but Hotel Danieli is by far the most luxurious hotel that I have ever experienced in my life. Hotel Danieli, as described on the hotel webpage (http://www.danielihotelvenice.com/hotel-danieli-history), is made up of three palaces. Yes, they are palaces made into a hotel! The main building, where the lobby and the front desk are, is from the 14th century. Depending on which part of the hotel you stay in, the style will be different. My girlfriend and I stayed in a Deluxe Lagoon View room, which I believe is in Palazzo Casa Nuova (19th century). First and foremost, we loved the view from our room (photo). Everything about this room and, in fact about the entire hotel, is unbelievably luxurious, something reminds me of a picture perfect image of nobility or even royalty. Their breakfast is served on their terrace. The view from the terrace is literally breath taking. Even if you're not staying at Hotel Danieli, I highly recommend that you make a reservation at Terrazza Danieli (http://www.terrazzadanieli.com/en) for a romantic dinner (if applicable). If you do stay at Hotel Danieli, make sure to ask for a free tour of their most expensive suites. This is something I read in fellow Yelper Lorena S.'s review AFTER staying here! Anyway, according to their webpage, Doge Dandolo Royal Suite starts at 12,000 Euro per night! I only dream about staying here again. I recommend that you stay here and experience all the luxury and excellence Hotel Danieli has to offer. I highly recommend that you book a lagoon view room. The hotel consists of three buildings which are all connected. The one in the middle is the oldest building which was built back in the 14th century. They are doing a great job maintaining old furniture, decor, and structure. 1. Access from the airport (VCE) a. Water taxi - about 30 min and cost €110. It will take you right to the side entrance of the hotel. b. Alilaguna - about 75 min and cost €15 (one way) or €25 (round trip). Take "Blue Line" and get off at San Zaccaria stop. Turn left, cross the bridge - total walk 3 min. Both 1 and 2 options above can be accessed through 7 min walk from the airport (turn left from the arrival hall exit, and pass the cab line). 2. Location The hotel is located right next to the famous Piazza San Marco, so you are in the middle of great sightseeing spots. There are tons of transportation options right in front of the hotel - including gondola rides (not the fake ones in Vegas, ha). 3. Room Thanks to my Starwood Platinum status, my room was already upgraded to their Jr Suite in the main building before arrival. Although there was no direct water view, it was a huge room with bedroom/separate study/huge bathroom, and hallway (yes, within the room). Surrounded by old furniture and structure, I felt like I took a time machine to go back to Middle Ages. While they kept old furniture, they also added modern technology such as a big flat screen TV. The floor was slightly inclined (and I proved it by rolling a water bottle) but hey it's part of the beauty. The bathroom was huge - it was the size of an average apartment bedroom in the US. It took awhile to get hot water, but hey you are on vacation, so what's your hurry? :) When I mentioned it was my first visit, the lovely front desk personnel wanted to give an water view room which became available from the next day. It was a little bit smaller from Jr Suite, but still nice-sized and with more updated amenity, and of course water-front! 4. Restaurant The restaurant on the rooftop had a breathtaking view - had breakfast while enjoying the amazing view. The breakfast full buffet costs you €52 pp (incl prosecco,) but it was included in my elite benefits fortunately. :) The spread didn't change everyday, but it was quite relaxing and enjoyable even if I only had fresh fruit/croissant, good Italian coffee, and the view... 5. General The concierge was very knowledgeable and helpful. Got some good local tips. Well-established Venetian glass companies send their complimentary boats to the hotel regularly from Murano, and you can just tell concierge to hop on one of those. After their factory tour which is fun, they can take you back to the hotel, or you can walk around Murano and make it to Burano via public transportation on your own pace - nice way to spend extra time to see the outside of Venice. Other than the rooftop restaurant, you should spend sometime in the lobby, maybe have a drink or two at the bar, and enjoy the historic/glamorous setting as if you were part of it... read more

Let me preface this by saying that if you are the type of person that needs modern 21st century luxuries, then this is not the place for you. The entire hotels' main feature is that it is set in the 14th century. Every time I walked in, I was transported into the 14th century elite royalty. I imagined wearing a houppelande while a caul adorned my head, and the maids removed my cloak. The architecture of the lobby is stunning, it will leave you staring in the middle of the floor with your jaw on the floor every time you walk in. If you ask, they will give you a free tour of the most expensive rooms (12,100 Euros a night!) which you should not miss. These rooms are beautiful! The hotels' location is ideal, it's literally next door to Piazza San Marco (St. Marks Square), Basilica di San Marco, Campanile (bell tower), Palazzo Ducale (dodges palace), and walking distance to every other attraction. It is also right in front of many piers that take you to other islands/locations, and Gondola stations out front (85 Euros for the Gondola ride). The drinks in the lobby are good but VERY expensive, so have one and then head out to the various restaurants/bars nearby where you get much more for your money. The hotel has a free round trip boat service that will take you to Murano Island, where you can tour for free how Murano glass is made (the masters do it right in front of you!). Of course, they hope you will buy some pieces but beware, you will need serious $$$$$$ as they range anywhere from 1,000 Euros and up. You can also setup private boat to/from the airport but it's about $100 Euros round trip. If you have time, you can take the public water taxi which R/T is 27 Euros and is right in front of the hotel. So why not 5 stars? Our room key battery died and we had to get it replaced, we almost got locked into our room because the lock jammed, the power went out on the wall where the TV was located, the TV wouldn't work at times even with power, and had no English channels....Yep, I just snorted reading my preface...I would still stay here again ;) read more

The entrance to the hotel is truly something to marvel at and trust me a lot of people come in to do just that. Up on the roof is absolutely stunning with views of the grand canal opening up to all the Venice islands. Our cocktails were perfectly made and went down a little too easy they were so good. I have heard about Hotel Danieli for years now. Always wanted to visit, and finally had the opportunity to do a 3-night stay in May. It totally met and exceeded my expectations. Originally known as the Palazzo Dandolo, the Danieli is a lavish hotel that may be known to many. It has been featured on movies and shows. Centrally located in San Marco Square, you are a short walk to the Bright of Sights and many museums and sites in the area.. Lots of food around, many hidden gems a short walk away. Rooms are beautiful and will make you feel like royalty. On our recent stay we were upgraded to a suite thanks to SPG status, so that was really nice. The staff goes above and beyond to ensure you stay is truly royal. Make sure to tour around the lobby and enjoy the gorgeous architecture and décor. Enjoy a drink or two at the lobby bar, and do not forget sunset at the Terrace.. It provides an excellent 180 view of the Grand Canal. This should not be missed! Finally, you can arrive from the airport via alilaguna blue line easily. It's about 1,5 hr to the San Zaccaria station. The hotel was once a palace and a portion of it is totally preserved and the rooms are incorporated into that portion. The lobby was once the balcone and terrace which is sort of hard to believe as it is incredibly grand. The concierce is one of the best I used. They communicate via email prior to arrival and set up your airport transport etc which in Venice is very important!!! They continue to be incredibly professional and full of knowledge about the area and actually give free tours of the palace which I highly recommend. There are actually three buildings to the hotel and the older one of course is the palace portion. Some of the larger rooms don't have the view of the water, so it will depend on what you want. I did not find the check in personnel to be helpful nor friendly so try to know what you want ahead of time. I did love the keys and leaving them with the concierge each time. Everything else was very nice. Rooms large and spacious. Bathrooms more than adquate with all you need and our closet was more comparable to a dressing room. THe lobby is grand and lovely and a great place to enjoy a cocktail, tea, or refreshment. They have safes in the room and the furnishings are typical Italian, so if want minimalist modern, this is not your place. This is for those who want to step back in time and get a feel for the wonderful world of Venice that was and to some degree still exists today. When I think about Venice I think about walking through a dream... A dream in which gorgeous tanned men in huge sunglasses brush past me carrying large plates of mozzarella di bufala with fresh basil on it... Oh and they pour my wine for me, swirling the glass, while staring deep into my eyes whispering sweet nothings in their vibrantly beautiful language. I have an excellent imagination, but what's great about Venice, and the Hotel Danieli is that these dreams become reality. People who travel covet this hotel, and I don't use that word lightly. The exquisite interior, that would make anyone weak at the knees, welcomes you while you wait patiently in line to check in before being seen to your room. I was lucky, as usual, and was checked in promptly by one of the more gorgeous men I had seen since...well...the airport (which would have been only about twenty minutes before). I'm a real sucker for jet black hair and ice blue eyes. The room was clean and updated as I stayed in the wing that had recent restoration. Many of the other rooms do have old school styled bathrooms, but I don't think a lot of people realize that the less expensive rooms (the Danieli's "Cheap" rooms) which are of course still miles away from what most would call cheap, are not like the higher end lagoon view rooms which cost per night what many pay in a month for rent. The breakfast is phenomenal in the morning. I sat, under the brim of a hat and my huge sunglasses, basking in the glory of what I like to think of as my second home (Venice). Sloppy eggs, just how I love them in Europe were perfectly paired with an excellent cappuccino. Exotic fruits abounded, along with things that I just couldn't justify for breakfast (like cake). The service was attentive, the decor opulent but old (well it is ancient guys, no modern wall covering here, they're antiques so keep that in mind), and in an excellent location if you are looking to stay in the San Marco area. During high season it is packed, and sometimes hard to get out the door, but I prefer it over many other high end hotels in the area, and enjoy that I do not have to take a boat to get to the main areas of Venice which would be necessary if staying at the Cipriani. We were staying in Venice for a few nights before a Mediterranean cruise. We asked the travel agent to book us into the best hotel, and this is what she came up with. There are different opinions on which is the best hotel in Venice, but Hotel Danieli has the best location - right in front of the main gondola station on the lagoon right next to Piazza San Marco. Directly across the water from San Giorgio Maggiore Island (with the church-looking building). It is the only hotel in Venice where views of the lagoon, the Grand Canal, the beach, and the city. Talk about old world charm and luxury, built at the end of the 14th Century when Venice was the center of the world. The location turned out to be key 'cause we could drink wine and get lost in the maze of streets and still find our way back here to the city center. Danielis was initially built as three separate palaces, which explains the layout. Formerly known as Palaza Danieli, Palazzo Dandolo and Palazzo Casa Nuova. 215 guestrooms. The stairway is painted with gold and there's a magnificent chandelier and a grand fireplace and antiques all around. They treated us with the greatest respect and gave us one of their best rooms in the Palazzo Danieli Excelsior - a Luxury Lagoon View Room, with a front balcony on the third floor over-looking Venice lagoon and the Grand Canal. Decor by celebrated designer Jacque Garcia, in a harmonious blend of Venetian and Gothic styles. A grand Italian marble bathroom with a combined marble bath & shower and Laura Tonatto toiletries. Gilt molding and etched mirror frames, damask headboards with Luxury Collection beds and doge-red draperies. Murano glass lamps. The devil is in the detail, and photographs cannot do justice to the atmosphere in the room. A chilled bottle of wine on the cabinet in a pewter holder for our arrival. The special treatment was a mystery at the time, but later we found out why. We paid a pretty penny, but surely not for this mega upgrade. This room goes for up to $2,200 a night. The hotel was in the middle of a renovation, and our room was already fully renovated with a mix of beautiful new and antique wood furniture. Top grade linens and a flat screen T.V. Bathrobes and slippers. Loved the sofa on the balcony (that's a first for me). This room was much nicer than the room where Johnny Depp & Angelina filmed The Tourist movie in the same hotel (their room didn't look like it had been renovated yet, and was on the side 'cause there was no way they could block off Riva degli Schiavoni for filming). We didn't eat at the restaurant since we had the same view from our balcony.This was one of those rooms that you don't want to leave though you just HAD to go out to explore b/c this was Venice. Inertia caused by good wine and room service appetizers 2 Die 4. Past guests include Goethe, Wagner, Charles Dickens, Lord Byron, Peggy Guggenheim, Leonard Bernstein, Harrison Ford, and Steven Spielberg. Doesn't really get any better than this. read more

Great quality breakfast, very attentive staff and amazing views 180+ degrees of venice coast. Location is footsteps from the St. Marks Square, literally. Right in front of Waterbus stations as well. This is the cream of the crop of locations. Concierges are very thorough, just need to get their attention. We didn't have dinner there but if the dinner is like the quality of the breakfast then it's worth it. Platinum's should choose the free breakfast and not points. Great full breakfast buffet every morning before you go and explore. Overall would stay here again but it's pricey but would do you expect when you are on the Rodeo drive of Venice! read more

I have been wanting to stay at this hotel since the 90's and it finally happened. All I can say is that I did not want to leave, and can't wait to go back someday. We got upgraded to a suite and had the best room. It didn't have a direct view of the city, but instead, it was looking across the other hotel yet it was nice because, we had an ally which the gondolas would pass through on their route and so we enjoyed music and on lookers waving back at us. The room was magical, it had a huge king size bed with an even bigger blanket. Everything was decked out in plush soft fabric, even the walls, and the sheets must have been 500 thread count Egyptian Cotton, as they were the softest sheets I have ever slept in. Same goes for the towels. The bathroom was a good size with a nice open layout and a nice open large bathtub. The room keys still have the signature Danieli red tassel with the brass hardware and Danieli emblem on them, which make it extra special since it has become part of SPG. Also, the keys are still given to the concierge every time you exit the hotel which gives the Danieli even more class. The staff was super nice and catered to your every request. The only down sides were that you had to pay for the tv as it only showed four or five channels, and the food was way over priced. Also, the shower though was beautiful, was a tiny but small. However, since the hotel is in such a prime location, in the center of the city, next to San Marco's Square, there really is no need to eat in the hotel. Also, the WiFi was free and had full signal strength the entire time throughout the whole hotel. Best hotel WiFi EVER. The Hotel Danieli is the best hotel in Venice. read more

We had an unbelievable experience here. We stayed in one of the more modern rooms, which turned out to be a suite, complete with a separate sitting room and full marble bathroom. The decor is exquisite and the staff is helpful (concierge made dinner reservations for us) and provides the little touches (chocolates with turn-down service). We stayed here for free on Starwood points, and when we were checking out, the desk clerk asked me if I wanted to pay for anything! I said, "no thank you", and he said "Okay. Have a good afternoon! We will see you next time!". I sincerely hope that there will be a next time and that it is very soon. read more

Ciao! What a beautiful pallazo!! We stayed here on a trip booked through Costco and WOW was it fantastic! Unfortunately, we were delayed by one hour in getting our room thanks to a person who smoked prior to our arrival in our assigned room, but we were upgraded to a suite instead. We were also compensated with a bottle of Prosecco and that was nice. The hotel is perfectly located next to St. Marks Square, easily in walking distance to the entire island. We only took a Vaparetto (water bus) to the train station, and that was as very easy thanks to the concierge advice! read more

One of the worst rooms and experiences I've ever had. The room was below average, frayed carpet, old wallpaper, askew lights. The towels feel like they are from the Holiday Inn down the street vs. a 'Luxury collection'. Had to call guest services 3 times to get a simple vanity kit for the morning. The room is LOUD - might as well pitch a tent on the street go get the same experience. 10 years of loyalty / status meant nothing. Talked to several other guests at breakfast all of whom were disappointed in their rooms. Never coming back here again, and will actively encourage people to stay away. Anyone can buy a pretty building and turn it into a hotel but if this is what the 'luxury collection' has come to mean for Marriott / Bonvoy then Hyatt here I come! read more

For Venice this is as Good as it Gets. I agree with Most of the Previous Yelpers. I have been there 3 times prior. with the last being in the month of December 200?. The Christmas tree is set up on the main floor, in the middle of the stair case on the main floor. It is Beautiful as is the rest of the hotel. Take advantage of the cigar/Lounge and Room Service. Please dont forget to tip. Not just with the VAT tax. If you are married to an attny. the perks are great. Just tell him to show his/her ABA/ or State Bar card, if not a member already of Starwood.
